  • So this is literally nothing to do with Forbear! Theatre but I thought, since I'm suggesting to others how to perform things I should put my money where my mouth is and say to y'all "Hey, I may not be a mezzo but I'm pretty bloody good on stage."

One of the best performances of this song I have seen (in my 60 year love affair with Gilbert and Sullivan).

Oh my goodness. I doubt this song has ever been performed with so much meaning communicated. An absolute masterclass

You are so kind, Izzy, I'm very happy with how it went, considering I'm a soprano and there are definitely a vast number of people who could sing it way better! But I'm proud of the overall presentation.

This song is so much like Mozart’s beautiful song The Violet (Das Veilchen), with lyrics from a poem by Goethe. It’s the same idea: a violet in a meadow hopes to be picked by a beautiful maiden, but gets trampled instead. Could Gilbert have known the song and borrowed the idea?

Thank you so much for uploading this clip! I've been fan-girling over this interpretation of Mad Meg since the Buxton streaming on GS Opera TV. I really appreciate having the clip to easily reference and share!

Too good! Love your timing and physical comedy. "Bloody good on stage" is right! ~Signed, another non-mezzo mezzoer

Who knew that looking up rankings of G&S arias would lead me down the rabbit-hole of Forbear! Theatre? ... and to my favorite rendition of this aria... and recently, the first I've heard of the Mad Scene. (How I sometimes wish to sing Soprano and Mezzo aria... but Alas! No. I am but a Wandering Minstr--- er, Tenor.) That said, Brava Rachel!

Aw, thanks Olivia! Just kind of playing her as myself tbh- my intentions when I act are saying the lines in a way that makes those lines the truth, and that aria is hard because in order to make it the truth she needs to have genuine auditory hallucinations which I don't have myself, but I was able to play upon my extreme sensitivity to certain sounds and just exaggerate my reactions.
