      It is an issue but don’t get it twisted it is not even close to being the major issue. The major issue is our corrupt elders and politicians. Imagine if the leadership of the country is occupied by people with the level of integrity this journalist just showed? A lot of those foreign subversive elements would be in jail by now, which would in turn engrave a status quo where people with such intentions stay clear of this country knowing fully well there is a high chance they would end up in prison if they even attempt it. Also when you talk about western influence I think you should try and distinguish between western government interference and western capitalism interference. For the naive mind it might seem to be the same but in reality , at least since the end of the Cold War, it has steadily grown apart. I mean criticize the west all you want, but they are the only political bloc which has been proactive in this regard. America and Britain for instance have passed laws in their country, criminalizing the attempt or act of their companies bribing foreign government to secure contracts or favorable deal in foreign lands, and they have vigorously enforced this law putting tons of their own citizens in prison for bribing African officials. They did this knowing fully well it will negatively impact their own companies and give foreign competitors like china and Russia an edge over their own companies . Considering those countries do not have such laws . in fact those countries actually promote and enforce state sponsored bribery schemes to influence leaders in these emerging economies. And when their companies do horrible acts there is literally no viable legal recourse for the affected country. As flawed as the west is at least if Exxon negligently destroy a community water source or employ flawed work practices which leads to injury or death of their local employees, the affected person or community can confidently retain legal representation and sue Exxon not only in Nigeria but back in their home country, and that person would be guaranteed a fair litigations and fair judgement depending on the existing laws. As many Africans haas successfully done over the years. This reality also force the said western companies, to employ way higher safety standards in their facilities and way better financial compensation for their employees. This concept is completely nonexistent in china and Russia. There is absolutely no judicial independence in those countries and their leadership is the mouthpiece of their private sector.. which is why you would never find a case where an African successfully sues any of their companies in their country. Btw this is not a full endorsement of western policies . Both the west and Russia and china are only interested in the same thing, which is influence and domination of Africa. My point is, although they are just as bad, at least the western bloc offers war more civilian protection than the other side .

    Just imagined such foreign NGO going to Saudi Arabia to try such in their energy industry and Saudi government will allow it happen. This shows how useless our government are and Africa in general. It's unimaginable for a government of the day to oppose the Dangote refinery and attack openly the highest single employer of labour in Nigeria.
    If they don't want monopoly as they portray , government should give more enabling grounds for other nigerians to invest in the energy sector and save the poor masses from the suffering.
    APC and it's government is already a disaster but some people who are benefitting from it , religion and ethnicity will continue to becloud so many people sense of judgement and they will continue to support the disaster.
    I don't Care who is in power, let Nigeria work for all of us, Nigeria has all it takes to be one of the richest countries in the world. But ethno religious sentiments will continue to be the determining factor when it comes to choose a leader in Nigeria. God help us.

      Bro government gave refining licence to many other entities...BUA(Akwaibom almost completed), Edo Refinery and many other modular refineries who have completed and waiting for crude supply.... Dangote is NOT THE ONLY ONE!! Government and her corrupt agencies in cohorts with unpatriotic Refinery owners outside Nigeria are frustrating ALL THESE REFINERIES 8INCLUDING PORT HARCOURT, WARRI AND KADUNA....try to research and get to know what you are up against bro

      Dangote was not the only one given the approval but others failed to deliver probably due to unseen forces. No one has spoken up of being denied the opportunity to build a refinery. Besides we have other refineries owned by NNPC. Billions of dollars were spent on those refineries but no one cares. Our main problem now suddenly is the only working refinery. Sanity is far from us

    Any Nigerian tried to defend federal government or any other agencies about dangote.
    Please let's ask them about maltal, the cabals who doesn't want Nigeria to work in collaboration with foreign countries. This IOC have hand in dangote issues.

    All of this power play going on and some people want to be tribalistic?? All this going on and some people still want to be slave to political godfathers? All this going on and some people would rather die than to get a good leader from Nigeria,either the leader is unlucky to come from a certain tribe,or he will be termed weak if he’s from another tribe;
    Lots and lots of manipulations for years,and we can not rise as a people to have understanding and clear intricacy of how things work in the world

      Apply wisdom! If there’s corruption in a government, it doesn’t automatically mean that the government does not have legitimacy. Wouldn’t it now be quite strange for well meaning citizens who are aware of this corruption, to destroy government institutions because of that corruption?
