    The Yankees have the lowest starting pitching ERA in baseball. Everyone thinks this is going to make them that much better, but I have a hypothetical for you: what if he struggles? Does Boone continue to run him out there every SIXTH day until he figures it out? Does Boone send one of the five starters that have all stepped up huge for them this year down to the minors? Does he want to send that kind of message to the pitchers? You can pitch phenomenally well, but the big money has to play for more important reasons regardless of struggles or not? Can that become contagious and lead to all the starters feeling like; hey this is the Yankees, it doesn’t matter how well we do, our job is never safe, a couple bad outings and we can be back in AAA? Even if Cole doesn’t struggle, he hasn’t been with the rotation all year, his contract is in another universe compared to them, could this whole situation lead to alienation? Furthermore, could this lead to lesser performance in their farm system which is currently ranked in the top 5 of all of baseball? Could guys start to feel like there’s no point in trying to do well for this team because Yankee fans demand proven talent, so unless I have a rookie year like Luis Gil I’ll never make the big league club?
    Everyone counted the Braves out when Acuña Jr. went down a few years ago, but his injury led to their World Series win because it pushed the front office to go and get four big pieces that were almost all of their postseason offense. My point is, this is baseball, you can never assume an out and you never know what’s going to happen. Sometimes you think something awful happened and now you’re screwed and it turns into something great unexpectedly. Sometimes you have something that looks like a flawless improvement and it turns out to be the downfall of the club. Bryce Harper was the Nationals and they needed him to leave for them to win it all.
    This is an uncontrollable variable, there’s nothing a manager can do to impact the outcome, it just has to play out, and I have a feeling that when October arrives we are going to look back and say, “the turning point for the Yankees was when Cole came back” and not in a good way for Yankee fans.
    Sidenote: What if the lineup is mid-season, under the summer heat, feeling tired after all this production in May/June, and Cole makes them feel like they can take their foot off the gas a little, which they should be, no different than every other team that calls their Ace an auto-win day, but it leads to slumps after that start because they think the rest of the staff is good enough to match him since they have been that good this year? What Luis Gil only pitches well when he’s getting all the runs he’s been getting and constant close games lead to him overthrowing the especially with the Orioles 1.5 back now where his start could very well be the difference between first and second place in front of the ever-so-critical Yankee faithful? What if all of them start overthrowing because a lot of their pitching staff has had a rough week and now they are afraid to lose their jobs, afraid to look worse in comparison to Cole if he comes back pitching out of his shoes? What if Cole’s success makes the bullpen fall apart because they’re afraid to blow a hold/save for the pitcher you added to the rotation while they were already the best in baseball?
    Cole might be capable of astronomical impact, but meteor impacts have shockwaves and ripple effects that the best scientists and mathematicians couldn’t predict flawlessly with the most money and best resources the world has to offer, and “I got a feelin’… Wednesday night ain’t gonna be a good night”.

    • @dereksimon5396
      @dereksimon5396 3 месяца назад

      I think everyone on that pitching staff understands that even if Cole struggles, they will continue to trot him out there because he is a proven entity of consistent greatness. If he struggles, he will get it together sooner or later. I don’t see that demoralizing anyone or leading to any kind of ripple effect in their farm system. I also think whoever gets the boot on that rotation (Poteet) is going right back to the bullpen, not AAA.

  • @caseyfenscke5895
    @caseyfenscke5895 3 месяца назад

    With pickoffs being numbered now.. you will have to have a catcher with a good arm to throw runners out. Get off of the one knee with runners on period. It’s common sense. Or if you want one good framing catch and then the other catcher needs to be blocking and throwing if your other catcher is just a framer like Trevino.

Once you make the decision to put someone on the 40 man and call him up, you're commited. You gotta give him like a month.
