This is my conversation with Marcello De Francisci. It took place on 5/29/2022 from his home in California.
Legendary Dead Can Dance vocalist and highly acclaimed film composer Lisa Gerrard has joined forces with Los Angeles-based composer/ record producer Marcello De Francisci for the stunning new album 'Exaudia', presenting a vivid collection of epic and empowering compositions.
‘Exaudia’ is the term used when a monarch grants a citizen of his kingdom an audience and, as a result, consents to a wish. A fitting title considering how regal this recording is. Working alongside a team of other musicians including Bahar Shah, Astrid Williamson, Daniela Arbizzi and Farhad Behroozi, ‘Exaudia’ combines the encompassing and euphoric textures of De Francisci’s production with Gerrard's evocative and haunting vocals. A feminine embodiment of poetic expression, the record plays majestically with this narrative, inviting a rich and vivid texture within each offering.
Marcello De Francisci - has composed-produced the music for an array of motion picture soundtrack scores including the piece ‘Drums of Victory’ for Alexander Payne’s five-time Academy Award-nominated film ‘Nebraska’, Natalie Portman’s first Western genre film ‘Jane Got A Gun’ and the anticipated sequel to the feature documentary ‘Baraka’ better known as ‘Samsara’. Marcello joined forces with world-renowned singer Lisa Gerrard (‘Dead Can Dance’ band member - Golden Globe winner for ‘Gladiator’ alongside Hans Zimmer) and both co-composed the music for numerous film projects, in addition, worked on two-solo albums the first titled ‘Departum’, and upcoming successor ‘Exaudia’, scheduled for release on Aug. 26th, 2022.
He is a recipient of the prestigious “Best Soundtrack of the Year G.A.N.G. Award” for Sony Computer Entertainment’s first ‘God of War’ game, as well as has won two Australian Film Critic’s Awards for his scores to the highly acclaimed films ‘Balibo’, and ‘Oranges & Sunshine’. His music has licensed on a wide variety of motion picture & television trailer ad campaigns, which include J.J. Abrams ‘Mission Impossible III’, Yi-Mou Zhang’s ‘Hero’, Conrad Vernon & Rob Letterman’s ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’, John Moore’s ‘Flight of the Phoenix’, Mike Newell’s ‘Prince of Persia’, the Russo Brother’s ‘Avengers-Endgame’, Ridley Scott’s ‘Exodus’, James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’, Jerry Bruckheimer’s ‘National Treasure’, Guillermo Del Toro’s ‘Hellboy’ and Netflix’s series trailer for ‘Rise of Empires - Ottoman’.
