Dear Rinpoche welcome to the club of suffering and abuse. The fact that you survived and still maintain compassion and loving kindness in your mind makes you a hero. You can be a role model to so many of us. Thank you for being strong and honest.
@B W If his love and compassion were superficial as you said, then you have no love or compassion at all. By the way, what have you done so far to make the world a better place?
11 years later, I have met you as you are today. Thank you for your commitment to the essence of the Dharma. You have blessed my life by what you have shared with me.
As a Tibetan, I just want to let you know that I support and respect your decisions to come forward and speak up. You are more trustworthy to me than many of the other rinpochens.
After everything that happened in your life, your attitude shows that the essence of Buddhism exists and that compassion and love above anything else are always the main goal to achieve. Your story and strength helped me to improve my own mind. Thank you very much, Rinpoche.
I grew up in Chicago, and was always reminded that "the blues ain't nothin' but a good man feelin' bad". You're a good man, and I would like to support your school.
From own flesh and mind (similar things happened to me 15 years ago) I know that what has been done to you leaves terrible shadows and marks on one's soul and life. I wish you from the bottom of my heart that your wounds may heal one day. First step is forgiveness, next step is being good to yourself. And still see light where shadows fall, still see love where violence and harm ruled. I am at that point now, love and light rule again in my soul and heart and life. I wish you the same, dear Kalu Rinpoche. My deepest respect for your courage, my deepest compassion for you, your soul, and my profoundly felt healing wishes .
You take care too, dear Kalu. I met you when you were 6 years old and you visited Brasilia, the capital of Brazil. One afternoon you visited our community in Alto Paraiso called Cupulas de Saint Germain, 250 km north of Brasilia. You came with 6 adult lamas and your mother. You played in the garden with Narada Muni, who was also 6 and lived with us at the time. The lamas sang sutras in the big purple dome and the accoustic was wondderful. All my love for you. Have a good life.
Dear Rinpoche, I am so sorry that this you have had to go through this. I had heard that abuse had happened to young Western tulkus who'd been shipped off to the Tibetan monastic system, but I had no idea it could also be occurring within the highest incarnate lineages such as your own. Thank you for bringing the brokenness of the system to light, and while I understand that you have your own projects and concerns and a desire to move forward, I sincerely hope that you will continue to work to modify the monastic system, lobby for oversight and accountability, and help bring about a reformation of the tulku system, which is obviously sorely needed. Thank you for your dedication to sentient beings.
So powerful, so honest. Peace my friend! There are many like you, although in different circumstances... We understand what you've been through and we all heal together.
You are a very brave man for coming forward and openly talking about what happened to you. I hope you get some good counseling to help you deal with the trauma you endured. Bless you my friend.
All I can say is "thank you, thank you, thank you!" I am grateful to you for letting down your guard and allowing us to witness your humanity. May you be happy,.peaceful, and loved beyond your wildest dreams. Nate Kelley
Thank you Very Verable and Dear Kalu Rinpoche, Through your difficulties and hardships you are made strong.Your recent weekend with teachings in Gothenberg,Sweden were wonderful and we all have benefitted greatly through your kindness and straight from the heart openness.
Rinpoche, I just want you to know how BRAVE you are in doing this. I honour you for that. Thank you for letting us know about the Real Truth inside of Tibetan Buddhism.
Or they come out so damaged that they hardly function, plagued by a lifetime of depression and mental/emotional incapacity. Don't be naïve or preach naïveté. It doesn't help.
I started off Buddhist then I went through some failings in my life. Discovered a translation of the story of Milarepa. It inspired me to re-approach Buddhism. I've been sober 14 years now and try to remember my sitting practice every day, but do not always succeed.
Thank you Kalu Rimpoche for this honesty, I have so much Respekt for you and you are for me the best thing in this world i think who can change all this destruction. You give us hope and help us to trust in life. You give me my refuge when I was 18 in Montpellier and I know that this help me every day to get throught this life, thank you really . Géraldine Tamm
Thank you for sharing this!! Thank you! Thank you! Time for all things to come to light!! only in this honesty can we transform this world.. You have no idea the gift of this for those of us who grew up in abuse and what it has taken us to rebuild our lives and come to the TRUE dharma of our Hearts!!!!
Dear young Master of Buddhism! Thank you for your courage and for speaking the truth. These times require renewal and adaptation. The essence never changes, but is updated and adapted. Buddha bless your steps. Take the Dharma everywhere you go! I'm gay and a follower of Buddhism ... And now ... His fan too! Thanks!
-I always tended to have a very rosy view of Tibetan monasteries - sort of a romantic fantasy. Your words have opened my eyes and it's massively important you've spoken out on this issue. I really hope and pray your issues are being seriously addressed...... obviously, the Catholics aren't the only ones - it's a universal problem that runs through all religious institutions - all belief systems. It's clear too that until victims speak out, nothing will be done to root out the corruption and hypocrisy behind the rituals and teachings.. I wish you a blessed life, young Sir and I hope by shining a light in the darkness - those who commit these evils on kids will be brought to justice - in this life. And if not, why not ?
I thought too there were no sexual abuse in the Tibetan Monasteries. Oh My God! I start to think of the monks I know and those I sponsor... And as far as Rinpoche is concerned, I have only the strong wish to give you a long curing hug. I hope by now you have overcame the hardest part, but I know it's not be like it never happened. It's heartbreaking for me and shocking in the same time.😱
I agree so much, and i had to stop being a monk after 14 years because of neglect and the way people don't care about Society or the environment or any wisdom, just money power sex as you say. I saw it, i was losing my mind and so i just left on my own to work with the teachings. I agree about finding people, caring for your family
I've heard some disturbing rumors about the previous Kalu Rinpoche - that he had an abusive relationship with a Western consort, and much worse, had a teenage Tibetan consort who was ritually murdered. Then there are the many stories about Trungpa that some have justfied as 'crazy wisdom' but I can't. This courageous public airing out of issues will ultimately result in the betterment of Tibetan Buddhism and Buddhism in general.
Thank you Kalu Rinpoche ! I too was abused by my father! I too was an alcoholic and drug addict. I will be in SF at KDK for Four Dieties and Niguma Yoga. Till then peace and safe travels. BTW I came to see you in San Jose in 2000 at the Red Lion Inn on N. 1st St in San Jose. I have a photo of you at age 9 or 10. Peace and love. ❤
Bravo, Kalu - I remember when you were having difficulties some years back, as you posted photos of your life (in US?) - so easy to get lost and lose touch with our loved ones - as you were only a teenager. You must've seen others struggle at that time. You seem so much healthier now - you are a wonderful human - and so much more. Good luck to you, dear Rimpoche - you can make the changes - and good luck with your school. Tuchi che, dear Kalu - and 'May the road rise to greet you' - from a Celtic prayer in Ireland - and means 'The best of luck to you' XXX

Just getting around to this now however your integrity is stellar. You have been through a lot on your path in life and it means a lot to me that you have gone through similar struggles. Thank you for being so honest about the Dark Side of monastic life and your personal challenges. You are definitely one of my favorite rinpoches to listen to and it is a great accomplishment to approach innovation with courage.
Hello Kalou! i met the former Kalou in Kaguy Ling temple in France , and i met you , as you were a child , at the same temple, in toulon sur aroux. I already knew the problems in this area and i could notv say anything because of the Omerta Rule. But what you say now is absolutely true, and by this confessions, you released the new purified way to practise the budism . that's great and i would like to follow your work, and follow you teaching
+tchen1706 If there is a serious transgression by a Buddhist teacher it is to be reported to their teacher or fellow teachers, and maybe others. Nobody is above the law, and no one is below it. See the book "Dakini Teachings". I also am a student of the previous and current Kalu Rinpoches.
wcangel who is the corrupt teacher will you please tell me? i have deep respect for the tibitian people and it Buddhism if any body who kept alive true buddhism that is tibitian people ,but like other religion corruption also enters in Buddhism also . as long as i knew in india there is not any corruption revealed in tibitian buddhism the kagyue temple in sikkim state rumtek monestry is the best .

I think it's great that you are so frank and honest on YT. I think it's great that young people have a young Rinpoche that has gone through many of the things they go through, things that they have seen. It gives me great hope to see the next generation, like yourself. Wise words, brave steps, you're doing 'fine and dandy' as we say. I shall keep in touch. Lots more uploads I hope.
My God .. at such young age You defintely have a thoughts of a noble and wise soul . I just ended up here after watching you visiting Old Age and giving blessings in ropes fast forward in the year 2022 ....my god this clip has been over 1 decades 😳 .. Namo Buddha 🙏🙏🙏
Hello Mr. Kalu Rinpoche. It's an honour for me to write this message hoping that you may read it. The age we are living in makes life very tough if people wish to remain honest and upright. It sounds like you are doing some very necessary spiritual spring cleaning. This will help you to advance spiritually whilst dropping unwanted baggage , in simple terms, like the way a crab casts off it's old shell so that it can expand and grow. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
my heart feels for you , thank you for this confession, despite your tragic past you have held your dignity. I do wish you the best for your project for the school. It is refreshing to see that buddhism has a very real human face so stay strong knowing that you do have support and respect and are held in high regard in the world. Many Blessings.
Thank you for this and for reaching out to people the way you do! I and my son took refuge in the 70s with the previous Kalu Rinpoche and then met YOU in Sherabling and in Bofhgaya when you were around 12-14, haven't followed your whereabouts since then. Surprised and pleased to find you here : ) Wish you all precious things and happiness on your path - always connected
I've never met anyone with so much unconditional LOVE than you. People should just love and respect you back, that's all. I hope you'll have trustable people around you in the future who protect you well while letting you breathe as well and be yourself as you like. Kalu for ever.
It's your blessing of good karma, and your choices of purity in liberation which have opened another parallel reality to humanity's awakening. Thank you for Self-awareness insights.
I bow to your honesty and difficult life circumstances that you have experienced. It's not uncommon that for beings breaking new ground or with tradition to be met with hostility, from those who identify strongly with their tradition. My view is that tradition only becomes confusing when a person takes it as their actual identity. Any one of us could have been born wearing the shoes of another culture - some would say that the work of their previous incarnation would dictate birth circumstances but other people disagree. It's a long drop from any, very structured society, but most people, who are bringing some degree of reformation have to face up to loosing what people think constitutes their identity. Sometimes, people appear to forget that 'Buddism' is bascially 'the way of being aware', so of course, anybody can embody that and it is worth remembering that Buddha is a title, not a name. Thich Nat Hanh also took Buddhism out of the monastary and into the world in Vietnam, by coming up with something he explains was totally new for Buddhism at that time by doing the same kind of thing. Thank you for your courage. Keep going :-)
Thank you Rimpoché ! I took refuge with you in 1987,been a drug -addict,alcoholic,you name it and your video really gives me hope.I wanna thank you Sir
I had the great fortune to meet You in your previous life in France. I took refuge with you and You gave me a name, Karma Deky Palmo. I remember, i never felt so relaxed and confortable in front of any Guru as i felt when i was in fron of You. Thank you very much Rinpoche!!! I wish You have a very long and happy life....lots and lots of love Rinpoche!
Dear Kalu Rinpoche, "normal human being". Thank you for your bravery and for being completely who you are. This human realm can be confusing and confused; taking our obstacles onto the path, and cultivating maitri and karuna ... what else can we do? You have a beautiful heart and so here are many good wishes for your project for a school. Please know many of us care about you and others, even if we have never met. Let's all contribute to creating "enlightened society". With love, Gabrielle
It is horrible to think that you were a innocent young kid, helpless and alone with predators. I'm so sorry. You are very brave and strong for speaking publicly about this. These things need to be brought out in this way, not hidden. Thank you for sharing, and all of my prayers and wishes are with you.
Thank you for your courage to share your story and allow yourself to be vulnerable. You are an inspiration to others who have also been mistreated and abused. I am glad that you are still able to open your heart and allow loving kindness to flow. It is often the case that these experiences, understandably xlose us off and cause us to put uo defences and close the heart. I am still continually in flux, trying to relax my defences, move out of survival mode and allow love back in. Learning to love myself, so that I may truly extend loving kindness to others. Hearing others like yourself speak up and show how love can still prevail is a real inspiration and source of support to me. You are a true practitioner of the Buddha dharma. Always be true to yourself. Sharing your truth is a gift to sentient beings. May loving kindness and compassion unfold without limit. ❤
Thank you Kalu Rinpoche for speaking your truth and being you.. I have so much respect for you after seeing this video. You are brave. Enlightenment and truth have nothing to do with traditions or religion.. You are a shining jewel and the universe is giving you these experiences that you are living through so you can discover a higher dharma beyond tradition and religion..
You are absolutely wonderful and what you are doing is so great - thank you so much for sharing this rare sincerity ! I am speechless. And so sorry for your suffering !
I empathize with you. Sometimes teaching by example, including and sharing one's challenges and efforts to work with and through them, is much more powerful than teaching as if you had all the answers. I appreciate your doing that and wish you inner peace and all that you need to accomplish your goals for yourself and others. Stay strong but don't be afraid to be weak, nor to ask for help. Peace brother.
I'm sending you so much Divine Light and Love- it takes great courage and inner strength to speak your truth and I bow to that strength in you. In this Yuga age, it is hard to see the forest through the trees, particularly with regards to so-called spiritual teachers/Gurus/Popes etc. I wouldn't wish the karma those 'teachers' are accruing on my worst enemy. You can rest easy, knowing that you spoke the Truth and are perfect, whole and complete just the way you are. We love you too!
Kalu Rinpoche, I am following you from now on. I always hated the fact that people following Rinpoche without any reasons behind it. Even in Bhutan we have lots of Rinpoche who just drives a Big SUVs and hook girls around and go outside for a donation in the name of Buddhism. I have lost respect in them, long long ago. In fact they annoys me more than the thugs in the streets. Rinpoche, have a good life ahead and today you honestly opened my eye. Dam this fucking too many tilkus(reincarnations) and Rinpoche's are annoying me so fucking bad. Just stay home, buy a Buddha's statue and a prayer book. That's more then enough, you don't need a fake teacher who wants to blackmail you in the name of religion. You are your own master. These gurus are Devil in the name of Buddhist monk.
Dear Rinpoche, My respect for you has doubled to infinity. I admire your boldness, your compassionate heart, and your honesty. You have given authentic meaning of Buddhism that we people find it absolutely easy to understand. Much respect, n
Thankyou Kalu Rinpoche for this. I am very saddened by these things that happened to you, this is not good, but I'm not shocked. That you have, inspite of all this, decided to keep to the proper path is really good. This brings much hope for your future and what you will be able to do within the Buddhist community. It's really good that you have brought these bad practises out into the open, do take care of yourself though and be with good friends who follow the true path. Peace be with you.
🙏🙏🙏 . There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in. Thank you for your bravery and your sharing your vulnerability. May this be healing to all. ❤️
Thank you rinpochela for being honestly, and don't think you are nothing think that you are something who can achieve anything.stay safe rinpochela always.
Hello Rinpoche, I am so sorry to hear about the horrifying incident that has happened with you. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I am sure there are many more who suffered and are still suffering like you in the monastic life. I hope your video of confession will encourage others (young monks) to express and reveal the truth of suffering in monastic life.
i understand how you feel and what you're going through; to have so much expectations to live up to and see through so many things at such an early age is a true test of one's character, principles and the ability to live a genuine honest life; genuine buddhism is never a rigid institutional 'regime' centred around rich 'jindaks'; dear Rinpoche find your unique way to live and emanate this precious teaching; never lose your dignity and self-respect; you see what others refuse to see; blessings
You are doing best and you are on the way Rinpoche la . You came far way and you have long way to go. Thank you for your present and gift to society which is your unique way of teaching . Thank you. Your advice change my life and many more . Thank you and take care of yourself .
Wow, I came across this...I have you on my Facebook and just looked into learning more about you. I'm so sorry for what you experienced. I also come from that background. 10 years after this video it seems that you are doing well. I hope that continues. ❤❤❤
@Emi Tsukawaki I can totally relate to you, because I have cried I have yelled I have felt like going crazy while watching all this sorrow happen it feels like an eternity. Only thing I know is not to give up and live up to the best you can Thanks kalu for making this video it makes me have more hope in humanity!
I know Tulkus who are extraordinary teachers of the Dharma, embodiments of compassion and integrity. But like this young Lama has said, they may be an extraordinary human but they are still just human, I also know of teachers who are corrupted by the usual culprits of greed, power and sexuality. This is true among all the different schools in Buddhism so we need discernment. Thank you Rinpoche for your honest and brave confession, what is needed is transparency especially in Tibetan Buddhism.
Thank you very much for your honesty Rinpoche. Many practitioners in my part of the world (Europe), often make the mistake of viewing a person who is ordained or wearing red robes, as someone who has reached a high level of compassion / wisdom, or someone they should look up to as higher beings. Unfortunately this isn´t always the case - and many practitioners are still dealing with ignorance, attatchment and these things (some worse than others) that appear in all aspects of the human realm.
Life is sometimes tough, but I think you're on the right track in going back to basics like compassion and love and it heals the heart and hope. All the best :-)
wow, incredible. one can open up himself wholeheartedly , i admire you so much. rinpoche ! hope all your projects would benefit whoever you want to benefit and set a good role model for all the young kids !
Your sincerity makes me want to be a better human being. It has been 9 years my human friend, how is your dream of the school? You have grown in your heart, no doubt. My deepest heartfelt wish that you have healed from the suffering and abuse you experienced as a boy and the hardships of your youth. May your dedication to the true spirit of the dharma be the root of love and deep understanding to share and improve your life and the lives of others.
Dear Rinpoche welcome to the club of suffering and abuse. The fact that you survived and still maintain compassion and loving kindness in your mind makes you a hero. You can be a role model to so many of us. Thank you for being strong and honest.

I admire you for your kindness and sympathetic heart. Bless you on your journey ❤️
thank you for your honesty. I am a former buddhist, your statement was a part of my release from what is not true.

If there is a serious transgression by a Buddhist teacher it is to be reported to their teacher or fellow teachers, and maybe others.
Nobody is above the law, and no one is below it.
See the book "Dakini Teachings".
I also am a student of the previous and current Kalu Rinpoches.
one of them is in prison still waiting his trial
wcangel who is the corrupt teacher will you please tell me? i have deep respect for the tibitian people and it Buddhism if any body who kept alive true buddhism that is tibitian people ,but like other religion corruption also enters in Buddhism also . as long as i knew in india there is not any corruption revealed in tibitian buddhism the kagyue temple in sikkim state rumtek monestry is the best .

Thank you for the courage and compassion that it took to come forward and expose this atrocity.
see june campbells book about her accusations about kalu.
Thank you for sharing your story, wishing more would come forward. Very courages
You're Beautiful. Your skillful means radiates from you. Literally, Method and Wisdom are visible by your presence. Don't change.
Thank you so much Kalu for your honesty! The Buddha dharma needs people like you. Honesty.
my heart feels for you , thank you for this confession, despite your tragic past you have held your dignity. I do wish you the best for your project for the school. It is refreshing to see that buddhism has a very real human face so stay strong knowing that you do have support and respect and are held in high regard in the world. Many Blessings.
🌍 God Bless you Kalu Rinpoche 💛
Thank you for this and for reaching out to people the way you do! I and my son took refuge in the 70s with the previous Kalu Rinpoche and then met YOU in Sherabling and in Bofhgaya when you were around 12-14, haven't followed your whereabouts since then. Surprised and pleased to find you here : ) Wish you all precious things and happiness on your path -
always connected
I've never met anyone with so much unconditional LOVE than you. People should just love and respect you back, that's all. I hope you'll have trustable people around you in the future who protect you well while letting you breathe as well and be yourself as you like. Kalu for ever.
It's your blessing of good karma, and your choices of purity in liberation which have opened another parallel reality to humanity's awakening. Thank you for Self-awareness insights.
Dear Rinpoche, I hug you in my thoughts. You have been through a lot, may you now have peace and good poeple around you!
You are such a brave young man. May your courage stay with you always. 💗
Viewed a more recent version of your new self; you've come a long ways. Happy to see! Yahweh keep you still...& always.
Elise
Beautiful young man! Thank you for your deep honesty! You are brave, now be free!
Bless you and Love ❤️
You are very strong and very loved for being who you are.
It is horrible to think that you were a innocent young kid, helpless and alone with predators. I'm so sorry. You are very brave and strong for speaking publicly about this. These things need to be brought out in this way, not hidden. Thank you for sharing, and all of my prayers and wishes are with you.
Greetings from Sherabling :-) thank you for sharing. we need better systems
Your truth is so wonderfuly healing to me, I love you and know the spirit of truth is all that is...all else is not real. Your truth is love. xxxxx
Thank you for sharing, Rinpoche. It helped me a lot and I hope it helped you and others.
Life was not always easy for Marpa or Milarepa too. Wishing you all the best. Be strong.
I’m so sorry you had to go through all these thing. And I’m glad you shared it.
Thanks for being real and being yourself, best of luck with your school project, it sounds fantastic
Dear Rinpoche, Thank you, please give us more of teachings and dharma lessons ,keep it up.
When someone realise his mistake and get out from the dark to enlightment.. Then that person is really awesome
Long Live His Holiness Kalu Rinpoche
Dear Rinpoche,
My respect for you has doubled to infinity. I admire your boldness, your compassionate heart, and your honesty. You have given authentic meaning of Buddhism that we people find it absolutely easy to understand.
Much respect,
n
inspiration!!! Be happy be healthy Rinpoche la.
I huge you! You are so brave to speak out. I believe you
Thank you Rinpoche. I needed to hear this.
Bless you Brother and may all contrast serve you to fulfill your Dharma! Peace & Love
i humbly pray for ur success in project Your Holliness
Much love and thank you for sharing, many bows.
Thank you rinpochela for being honestly, and don't think you are nothing think that you are something who can achieve anything.stay safe rinpochela always.
I just knew abuse was going on! This is literally the same as what happens with the preists!
Hello Rinpoche,
I am so sorry to hear about the horrifying incident that has happened with you. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. I am sure there are many more who suffered and are still suffering like you in the monastic life. I hope your video of confession will encourage others (young monks) to express and reveal the truth of suffering in monastic life.
i understand how you feel and what you're going through; to have so much expectations to live up to and see through so many things at such an early age is a true test of one's character, principles and the ability to live a genuine honest life; genuine buddhism is never a rigid institutional 'regime' centred around rich 'jindaks'; dear Rinpoche find your unique way to live and emanate this precious teaching; never lose your dignity and self-respect; you see what others refuse to see; blessings
love you, you are an inspiration
How much you changed Kalu! See what you have become now! I'm very proud of you! ❤💜💎🙏 I'm so greatful for having met you!
I love you Rinpoche
Thank you for your sincerity and I wish you the best!
All respect and best wishes.
@Emi Tsukawaki I can totally relate to you, because I have cried I have yelled I have felt like going crazy while watching all this sorrow happen it feels like an eternity. Only thing I know is not to give up and live up to the best you can
Thanks kalu for making this video it makes me have more hope in humanity!
Don't ever think ur hated there is always someone in this world who loves u
I wish for you all that all you wish for yourself, your school and your community, you deserve happiness.
wow, incredible. one can open up himself wholeheartedly , i admire you so much. rinpoche ! hope all your projects would benefit whoever you want to benefit and set a good role model for all the young kids !
Thank you and good luck with your school Rinpoche and everything else - a lama chenno! Om Moni Peme Hung Hri!!
