The Next World War | Episode 1 | Russia invades the Baltics

- A documentary series that takes a terrifying and realistic look at a hypothetical Third World War scenario. Episode 1 of World War 3 begins with a sudden Russian invasion of the Baltic NATO countries of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in August of 2032. But that is only the beginning of a war that will stretch from Europe to Taiwan.
Like nearly a century before, could the United States and its allies once again battle and win a two-front war a half a world apart? Or through failure, miscalculation or insanity, would it all come to an end in the blinding flash of nuclear annihilation?
The world is about to find out.
Hello! I'm John, creator of this series. It takes a TON of time and effort to make this story possible! If you'd like to help, please like, subscribe, share and spread the word. Contributing directly would be awesome. You can find me on Patreon at: / flatcirclehistory
Thanks for watching!
Thanks! You have created a fascinating theoretical scenario which I have enjoyed greatly thank you for your hard work and dedication. Please keep them coming.
Thank you, back!
This is somewhat similar to the book written by the great Tom Clancy. For those who haven’t read it. It’s called Red Storm Rising. It’s a great read.
RSR is a big influence on why I created this. That, and a book called "The Third World War" written as though it were non-fiction back in the early 1980's. Highly recommend that book.
Sir John Hackett's book?
You might have to change the lead in to say something along the lines of "Optimistic after their victory over Ukraine and certain that they solved their shortcomings found in the early days of that war, the new Russian president looked to expand on Putin's gains and further expand Russia back to its historical borders."
It wouldn't change the later plot which ever side you intend to have win. Overconfidence can go either way.
Yup
That book is a masterpiece
@@mikespangler98 " Overconfidence can go either way. " Definitely !! I have used an opponents overconfidence against them in boxing , inspired by the late great Muhammed Ali. The Third World War , The Untold Story is an excellent book , as is Red Storm Rising. Sir John Hackett's book is quite chilling , esp the nuclear strikes on Birmingham ( 50 miles from me !! ) & the response on Minsk. It would not have stopped there in reality , escalation is almost certain.
Holy mother of hidden RUclips diamonds. I love your work. Really feels and flows like a Cable TV documentary.
This storyline is awesome. Better than anything on tv. Good job.
Awesome. I can only imagine how much time this has taken to put together. Very good work, will watch the series.
Thank you! A lot of time to create, but much fun in doing it. Spread the word!
Thanks!
Thank you!
This is awesome, it's like watching a documentary from an alternate timeline. Looking forward to more.
Thank you! That was the intent, so hearing it confirmed makes me a happy camper!
@@flatcirclehistory Can't wait for other fronts to open up lol. Will we be seeing anything from the Chinese?
@@spartanK42 Soon(ish) on the Chinese!
What do you mean "alternate..." In Europe this is the news!
How come, that the British who have devastated entire planet, and all races, have nerve to call other people aggressors? Dont you have shame? Where are thousands upon thousands of stolen goods from all over the world? Now, you have used poor Ukraine to be your proxy, and their people will suffer, just because you wanted to inflict some damage to Russia. @@flatcirclehistory
good stuff will be playing catch up for a few nights it looks, thanks for posting.
Absolutely brilliant work. Cannot wait for the next episodes!
Thank you!
Forgot to say thank you for sharing. An looking forward to seeing it to the end. Thanks for time and sharing 👍
Really great. Those are my fav sim/war games, and you are doing a great work with this doc series, thanks ! 🤘
Thanks!
I was pissed there wasn't more...excellent. I'm subbed
Coming back yet again to watch the whole thing before the new episode comes out! Can’t wait.
I have and read RED STORM RISING and this series should I hope wake people up and that awareness can prevent this from ever happening!
unfortunately most people especially in the US are either clueless or willingly blind, sticking their heads in the sand.
Love it! Always wanted a series exactly like this.
Ditto! It's something I was looking for, too - so I decided to just make it. Having lots of fun with it. Spread the word!
Fantastic idea for a series. Great content!
Compared to the other channels doing this stuff its a very 'adult' view on how it could kick off and quite acurate I think.
Great work mate!
Thanks!
Fantastic fiction. May it stay that way!!!
Thanks!
I only hope that this scenario remains fictional…
@@ilttpvvm don't count on it.
2027 or 2029 might be a more realistic date if some recent analysis are to be believed
Great series. Nice job!!
Thanks!
This looks great.
I'm unsure of the further pathway but would be happy to do some segments in Steel Beasts Pro PE if you needed imagery of high tempo contemporary armoured warfare.
I would be very interested in that. My email is in the about section. Feel free to reach out!
This is awesome. Reminds me of Tom clancy’s Red Storm Rising
I don't know if this was asked before, but just curious what game did you use for the combat scenes?
also I read the Tom Clancy alternate history books when I was locked up a few years back. This is like seeing what I was imagining when reading those ! Awesome man keep it up.
I love this series. However, one problem I see at the beginning is that Estonia's Amari Lennubaas Airbase is over 200 kilometers from the Russian border. How did the Russians "quietly" infiltrate a NATO country. I'm not saying it's not possible, but that should have been explained. Moreover, the idea that it would be "lightly defended" when it hosts NATO fighter wings is laughable.
Great concept and yet again more proof that nothing will ever come close to being more versatile than Arma.
Thanks! Cheers to that. ARMA is the great sandbox for this - but it's the massive modding community who take it from great to perfect. If I need a Latvian soldier... got it. A Canadian officer... yep. Makes my scriptwriting so much easier, knowing these things are out there.
Saw Fixedit interview, immediately intrigued, was not disappointed.
Nice fictional story. Absolutely absent from actual reality, but very entertaining. Well done!
A very good series of WW3 books is "The Zone" series written by James Rouch. At least 9 books in the series. It was written in the 1980's and is set sometime in the late 1980's.
Came here from the Warzone, can’t wait for this universe to get more fleshed out. Keep posting about this!
Thanks! I'm hard at work on episode 4 and the script is almost complete for episode 5, so there are definitely more coming in the weeks ahead.

Hello. Is there a second season available?
Intresting 🎉❤
Very brave and insightful, did you start after the Ukrainian full scale war? 😊👍
2032 may be a bit late. looks like things are moving a bit quicker.
And oh yes! I'm sharing this on FACEBOOK!
The series is a masterpiece. gj.
How did you do the narration? Also dig it.
My first drafts I performed it with my own voice. And they SUCKED. I am not good at narration. Then I found this: beta.elevenlabs.io/ This, was a game-changer. It's not perfect, but it's damn close.
Side note: love your work as well. A stunning amount of time and effort on your part.

Bleak, but so true!
I really like this so far. Very cool idea
Thanks! Workin' on episode 3 now.
What voice did you use off Elven Labs for this video? Thanks
No mention of tanks running out of petrol and stalling in a convoy just short then pmsl 😂
But, this looks impressive. I'll suspend disbelief and keep watching.
these vids are skill , what program does he use to make them ?
Entertaining video. Solid narration. absurd hypothetical scenario.
I stopped watching at the hilarious "elite Russian assault team". LOL.
Very cool; great editing, interesting timeline, good choice of (AI?) narration.
Some (hopefully constructive) criticism, if I may?
I realize that this definitely isn’t the topic of the video, but I, for one, would like to see a bit more backstory. As-is, it was essentially “Russia faced disaster in Ukraine, brought in a new leader, he made the country rich.” All of which is absolutely plausible (well, the “disaster” is actually authentic) given Russia’s share of natural resources and her relatively unique geographic position. But after seeing what Russia can (or rather, cannot) do, it’s borderline laughable that they’re opting to go toe-to-toe with NATO.
Not without knowing at least some of what has happened in the ‘next’ 30 years. Again, I realize your intent isn’t to document this, but it would add a nice layer of realism.
Even something like Russia playing nice for the next few decades, all the while they are controlled by a cabal of hard-liners pining for the days of Soviet/Imperial hegemony. They re-structured their economy via unprecedented co-operation with Europe. China takes a similar route, outwardly going through their own version of Perestroika, launching a ‘goodwill’ tour of the globe that lasts decades, nominally recognizing Taiwanese sovereignty.
NATO is cautious through the early 2020s, but finally let their guard down after rapidly increasing inflation, growing internal unrest among several key members, and demands in the U.S. for more social spending leads to massive military cuts… which finally leads to NATO more-or-less accepting that China and Russia no longer pose a threat. Which is precisely what both governments were waiting for. And yet, they still bide their time, hoping to lull NATO even deeper into their false of security, waiting all the way until the early 2030s to execute their plan.
I think a description such as this would add a lot to your future scenarios, and it would only add a couple of minutes to your introduction video.
Anyways, I’ve said my piece, looking forward to watching the rest of the series; Thanks for reading!
Constructive criticism and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for taking the time to watch and write an informative critique. Your points are all well taken. I had to strike a balance on the opening episodes between grabbing viewer's attention, while providing enough (initial) backstory for it to be plausible. Trust me... I LOVE a good a good backstory. In fact, in other writing projects, that element has come to be a fault, becoming an initial data dump that, though rich in plausible detail, can be boring and academic to a reader/viewer. Best to dole out the backstory incrementally. That is my goal here over the coming episodes. One item, in particular, gets addressed in Episode 4 coming soon. Lastly, if this series catches fire (SPREAD THE WORD!) then a prologue series is always a possibility. Keep the comments coming and thanks again for watching.
Good post , yes economic conditions can certainly spark war , the rise of Nazi Germany was precisely caused by the economic conditions during the Weimar government's tenure. The people had had more than enough & sought a saviour.
Thanks
Who narrates this? It sounds like Sir Patrick Stewart.
Wouldn’t it make more sense for China to attack Taiwan first! Then US military would be tied up with their pacific interests and less likely to wage a counter offensive in Europe. Indeed it could be that UK ,Finland, Norway, Poland, France maybe first to defend.
Baltic states were not lost to Russia they never belonged to them, invading them numerous times and trying to erase their history and culture is a very hollow ownership.
Haha as if by 2032 enough people are left to fight such a large scale conflict.
So I sent this to a couple people I know whose careers give them insight into NATO preparations for possible conflicts. One got back to me so far saying that chances were good that NATO has considered scenarios very similar to the one presented here.

Having seen the performance of Russian conventional forces in their Ukrainian adventure, one wonders just how much a threat those forces were during the last decade or two of the Cold War (say, 1972-1992.) Yes, they had considerable armor mass to punch into Western Europe, but the US and NATO had invested heavily in countering such an armored thrust. If the Soviet army's logistics and combined arms capabilities were as bad as the Russian Federation's, after some initial success, US-NATO forces may have been able to stop them cold long before they reached the Rhine. A scenario such as this, in which the Russians attempt to reassert control over the Baltic states, would all but certainly result in a Russian defeat, for the same reasons that Russia has not been able to achieve its tactical and strategic goals in Ukraine. Russian tactics and strategies have always been dependent upon the weight of numbers, their willingness to throw away Russian lives in staggering numbers (and the willingness of Russians to accept those casualties.) The Russians no longer have the population of youngish men to throw into a meat grinder and clearly, the average Russian is no longer willing to make such sacrifices.
All good points. For this series I'm approaching it that the Russians have (enough) quality and quantity to move fast and initially break things... but that's a far different capability than breaking and holding. What comes after that starts to get trickier, strategically and politically for both sides. That's where mistakes, both big and small, can push the situation into something far worse.
Russia took the military airport of Kiev in 2 hours and they were there for a month!..USA needed 500.000 soldiers +450.000 allies and one month + 10 days to take the Kuwait airport, also they needed 15 days to take the Bagdad airport!...so stop cheap propaganda because if Russia would have used 950.000 soldiers instead of 120.000, then Kiev and Kharkov would have been taken and Maidan regime would be ended!
One minor cherry picked example does not outweight the colossal ineptitude and corruption of the Russian violation of Ukraine. The if-then simply didnt happen and what does that say about Russian leadership and planning? If they invaded the Baltic and line up their vehicles like the did to Kiev, rest assured there would be a 40km trench of dead vehicles and soldiers and with that, a collapse of the entire regional sector. And NATO would have no qualms pouring through that gap. Now the risk of nuclear war would be stupendously high, but maybe Russia and China need to rethink why using military force is NOT a good idea. Maybe hard work to invest in the country and its people but hey, greed and power.
@@mengshun The question is that NATO cannot defeat Russia!..NATO has sent all its modern weapons and are using one million Ukrainian soldiers and despite that huge resources they cannot defeat Russia.
What an ignorant statement
Do you have a track list
This may be entertaining but the possibly of total war is disturbing
and seems inevitable.
Which airplane is that russian plane on the thumbnail?
The only problem with this, is that it seems they are going to give the Russsians capability, they really dont have,
Yes, this scenario is highly improbable. Russia lacks the ability and resources. Even for its half-measure war in Ukraine, it needed the USA to stupidly buy $160 billion in Russian fuel in 2021, with which sad old Putin prepared for war. There are no more "billions" lying around.
Secondly, China does not need to join this risky fool's errand. It has already won the economic and political war, taken control of key bodies like the WHO, in no little way helped by a certain lab-leak incident in November 2020. Why would it risk what it worked tirelessly for, by joining Russia? It will eventually get Taiwan anyway, and it doesn't need Taiwan, it already dominates the world agenda.
A rogue group in Chechnya etc., or nation like Korea or Iran, going nuclear is a much less impossible scenario.
I guess you forgot that Canada's role is the defense of the Baltic states. I don't see how Russian special ops would get that deep into Estonia unnoticed. And there are Canadian soldiers present too. Anyways I am enjoying this series.
I didnt forget 🇨🇦. Episode 2 and 3 includes them - including introducing a Canadian character that will become important in future episodes.
Canada is weak, if it wasn’t for the United States the Canadians would still be using muskets
Did you just use Arma 3 for the cinematic shots? And if so what mod for the shots of the ships?
Episode 1 is primarily ARMA3 with a little Command Modern Operations and DCS. I list all the ARMA mods here: www.patreon.com/FlatCircleHistory/about

They are so weak. There are no danger. Greetings from Estonia to everybody.
The problem is underestimating our Russian friends. Also, underestimating the current Russian leadership and the reckless and ill-informed choices they make. If the believe something, they take action. And there lies the problem.
Meanwhile, in 2023 Russia, any citizen with the name Dmitriy Kozak, mysteriously goes missing...
Russia has nowhere near the level of military competence to pull this off.
Mirror imaging of western vs Russian military capabilities. Recent events show that Russia is ruthless but anemic military capabilities
Russia losing to Ukraine? What a joke!!
The danger of escalation would be proportional to the desire of the Russians to avoid defeat. During the Cold War, many thought that US-NATO forces would be forced to resort to tactical nuclear weapons to offset the numerically superiority of Soviet armor. ( I recall reading a US Army document back in the 1980s that essentially assumed that NATO and US forces would resort to battlefield nuclear weapons within the first few hours of a Soviet thrust through the Fulda Gap.) Now we were preparing to do that in order to prevent Soviet-Warsaw Pact forces from reaching the Rhine before American reenforcements could arrive in Europe. That was how far we were willing to go to avoid defeat. If the Russians were to invade the Baltic States, which would invoke Article 5 of the NATO charter, one would assume the Russians want to "win" bad enough to accept that as a consequence of their invasion. It would also suggest that they have contemplated an escalatory response (in this case, the use of tactical nuclear weapons,) should they begin to lose. And they would lose. Russian conventional forces are simply outclassed by those of the US and NATO (if the Russians didn't know this before, they certainly know now.)
Thanks for the well thought out comment. All good points made!
USA lost the Vietnam war using all its military resources...therefore NATO would have lost vs USSR..
The US did not commit all its military resources and certainly mishandled them.
Authoritarian regimes are extremely dangerous - it is about power and control and at all costs. Democracies simply require forcing the will of the people. While this is still true of authoritrian regimes, the regimes (1) usually exist where the culture is one of abused citizens not willing stand up for themselves, and (2) the regimes have far more latitude keeping their slaves, er, citiziens in check, (3) level-headed politicians are far fewer in number and power, making reasoned calculations nigh impossible to rely on.
The only way to keep that escalation threat in check is to make a strong, united front early on and keep the pressure on. It's expensive and exhausting. But the alternatives are far, far worse.
Military no, political yes. But still the same a loss, lose the people lose the war.
Gripping. Like a Tom Clancy novel come to the screen. Can't wait for season 2. Couple things; the attack on English oil seams pointless, they have to know no sub is safe in those waters. Hope further content on this part in next series. Second, fighting in Ukraine with drones shows the total venerability of ground troops now. Russian old school tactics are just not up to this type of warfare. And finally; attacking US airlines, basically civilians, just makes us more apt to take the fight to you. The much larger threat is FOX news, and others, saying "The Baltics really belong to Russia, and it is not our fight."
1:46 Alberta license plate lol, otherwise was interesting to watch
The same elite units that tried to storm the airport in Kiev?
If there is ever WWIII, I believe the U.S. will almost certainly start it. Russia's military actions are focused around its domestic security, consolidating its position over former Warsaw pact countries such as Georgia and preventing them from entering into alliances with NATO, which is the primary motivation of the Ukraine invasion. The U.S. on the other hand has primarily intervened in countries far outside of its sphere of influence that do not pose a threat to its own national security, particularly the ones that want to stop using the dollar to buy and sell their oil (Iraq, Libya, etc.).
It's almost certain that America will launch another clumsy invasion, perhaps in Iran or wherever, and this time the BRICS nations will threaten military defense and aid in support of the invaded nation, and it will all kick off from there.
This is one of the typical plots where you already know at the beginning what the ending will be: extinction of mankind from planet Earth and victory on points for Russia.
Woop!
Germany Japan and their allies also had no chance of beating both the Western and Eastern allies they still went to war and were very successful for the first year or two. Then the population and GDP advantages took over and ground them into dust.
Not bad at all for a start. But the reasons for China's involvement are somewhat flimsy A story with a sweep like this requires a personal and political foundation that is both humanizing and plausible. You have leaders who react to a situation moved by fiat and not by Humanity. And war is and always will be centred on individual humanity.
You're working on the clearly erroneous assumption that the Russian military is competent.
I will throw out this observation: that they might be (just) competent enough to get into a war and have some initial success in the open days... possible. Whether they are competent enough to sustain and win? yeah, there's the question. In the series, we're not even to day 3 yet.
The prologue makes it pretty clear it's after a serious overhaul of the Russian military. Whether such a thing is possible... Well let's hope this [great] fiction remains j just that: fiction.
Nice video but two big problems:
(1) Russia lacks the ability and resources. Even for its half-measure war in Ukraine, it needed the USA to stupidly buy $160 billion in Russian fuel in 2021, with which sad old Putin prepared for war. There are no more "billions" lying around.
(2) China does not need to join this risky fool's errand.
In light of the above, your scenario will never happen. You need idiots in charge in both Beijing and Moscow, simultaneously, its unlikely.
A rogue group in Chechnya etc., or nation like Korea or Iran, going nuclear is a much less impossible scenario. The Middle East is where it's at.
-Wania, we lost 30 000 man, 3000 tanks, 600 airplanes, lots of altilery and many vechicles in first months in Ukraine...
-Kostia, how many units and soldiers lost NATO?
-NATO had not yet come.
You didn't get the UKRAINE not right, so, what about the rest??
Ìs quite likely that WWIII already started in Israel
I agree with your assessment.
No. Palestine is a side show. Hamas is despised by many in the Arab world, even to the point the Egypt and Saudis wouldn't mind them being removed. WW3 - if the trajectory holds in the world - started with the 2015 Russian invasion of Ukraine. It's been downhill ever since.
As do I.........@@kevinmadary8695
What about the part where Nato and the US keep pushing their weapons closer and closer to Russian borders?
It's not the "evil" US but the countries who've suffered enough under Russian imperialism, who are thankful to America for pushing their weapons next to Russian borders.
Weapons closer to the Russian border? In their OWN territory? Just like what russia did a couple months before it's full scale invasion of Ukraine? Or what China did a couple weeks back in Belarus?
American readiness? I recall some shenanigans in and around Nashville, TN during December, 2020, but I can't help but feel that since America is exclusively in the service of New Khazaria that our capabilities are severely compromised. Plus, this series presumes that Russia will run away from Ukraine in total defeat.
With the way NATO is spreading east, and the UK/France keep poking the Bear, this scenario is very likely sooner than later.
it just funny how by 2032 the boieng 747-400ER would still be flying
Is it alternate history? How did Russia get to the point where it can threaten NATO 8 years from now where it is such an ineffective large scale force?
EDIT: While unrealistically quick, wait for the lore to come in during the second part.
Will this series take into account the general Russian incompetence that they have been showing since the Ukraine invasion?
Everyone who is saying Russia is incompetent they may be winning now as they did in Ukraine but they failed to consolidate there gains and the thunder run stalled eventually
Interesting, but perhaps not so realistic? *looks at ukraine*
Now that Putin is Re-elected this is definitely a different timeline.
I love the Ideas and story but with the level of incompetence Russia has shown in the Current Ukraine war I think WW3 May need a different player to FAFO.
Thanks!
Really get a kick out of these. Keep them coming. Noticed AOPA shirt good man!
Whoa. Thanks, Alan!
