Was stationed in Colorado Springs in the late 70's in the USAF. I was driving thru Manitou Springs, and as I passed a car shop that had helped me get my Datsun Roadster ready for SCCA action, they waved me over. The owner knew where my interests laid, and said, "I have a car you'll want to buy". I loved convertibles, and unfortunately, the Opal GT sort of car was a hardtop, and had no paint. "Well, you know how to paint, if not, you can just polish the aluminum body". I sat in the car, but $1500 was more than I had available at that time, and I could park extra cars in the NCO barracks lot, but the Right handed steering and the hardtop put me off. I forgot about that car until the late 80's, when I saw a Toyota 2000GT sold for almost $85,000. I realized I could never have known what the value of those cars would have become, so decided it just made for a great "Almost bought" story. Even worse last year when the price at auction went over $1.3 million . Great car, love the red paint.
actually good that you did not bought. You only would have bought it to store in your garage for it to be pretty and rise in value, and sell on later with a lot of profit. Wich in my opinion is the wrong reason to buy this car. toyota 2000GT is a marvelous piece of engineering, the best of the best toyota could make at the time. Less then 500 where made.
Still looks more modern that everything else during the same era. Way ahead of its time. Can't believe datsun turned it down. Toyota benefited. Well done Yamaha.
@@hoedemakerbart care to explain how. as this car is much better developed and designed and higher quality materials used then the datsun 240Z. 240Z is great car, but its a different class of car. Reflective in the price when new, and now second hand its even more obvious.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the GPP (Green Peoples Party) gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station fuel pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions- and smoke crime :-(
Rather condescending of you. This car had at its heart an absolute gem of an engine....and THAT was created by Yamaha. The two together became a symphony on wheels.
Boy, it sure would have been nice to HEAR the engine instead of that music.
its a straight six engine with 3 caburators;) its sound amazing:)

Wel.the 240z is in many technical ways much more ahead of its time then the 2000gt

There is so much beauty in the world...
Get rid of the crappy, overly-dramatic music and allow the engine running through the gears to the friggin' selling. Jeez.

Thankfully the EU will probably be history by then.
Looks like a jag
sold in 2016 for $560,000 usd
Please, can you share the name of the music... it sounds great!
toyota answer to e-type jag.
💨💨ヴヴヴヴヴオン~~)))
)))👂👨👀💓😵あ~~~💓💓😱😫しびれる~~
Off to watch an orchestra now. I might hear some engine sounds. Have a thumbs down.
too bad, always boring loud music in all videos...
Another video ruined by music
I dont like you. Lol. Jk.
Probably the nicest Japanese car ever made... but at the end of the day, it's still a Toyota.
Rather condescending of you.

At the end of the day, it is the best car maker in the world. Hm. Yeah, that's good.
$1.2 Million sounds really cheap yes.
Just like at the end of the day Ferrari is still Ferrari on Mercedes is still Mercedes.
