This is lovely to see a modern RHS garden built. I lived in Salford for 5 years and love city based green spaces. Thanks for taking the time to share your day. What a beautiful cake to end your special day.
Thanks for this lovely trip round my local gardens, I live just around the corner from it. They have done a great job haven't they. Wishing you a happy birthday too 🎉
Lucky you, it must be wonderful to have watched it develop over recent years, I didn’t know what to expect but it greatly exceeded anything I had imagined. Thank you for watching and I very much look forward to my next visit.
Thank you for another garden tour. You do such an amazing job explaining gardens ;) your exceptional critiquing gardens is so helpful to other gardeners…always positive, but helpful! Thank you for doing these videos❤❤❤
Thank you for taking us along on your visit to this amazing garden ! ❤ Just beautiful. I planted a Mexican feather grass in my garden once and it self seeded like crazy, maybe my climate.
Thank you, I will treat it with caution, I hate it when things self seed everywhere, had the same problem with pheasant grass, I still find seedlings everywhere 🌱
Thank you for taking us along for the tour of this lovely garden on your special day. And, for giving the history & sharing photos of what was once a magnificent, grand house. Also, I like your idea of putting a block of color or multiple plants of one color in borders for continuity. Happiest of Birthdays to you! May God bless you greatly in the year to come!
So happy I saw you on Danielle's channel, Northlawn Flower Farm. Your garden's are beautiful. I am here in Maine USA and love garden ideas and flowers.
Well no one does a garden quite like the U.K.. Splendid tour indeed. Danielle from Northlawn flower farm shared a video of your gardens so I dropped in from Spencer Indiana, U.S. to check out your channel. Have very much enjoyed what I've seen so far... I have subscribed and will be back but for now... Thanks for sharing your lovely garden space and Happy Birthday 🎂💐💚✌️😎
Thank you so much and welcome to our channel. It was wonderful to be on Danielle’s channel, a bit surreal as I’ve been watching her channel for a while, she’s great and so a bit weird finding myself featuring on there! Thanks again and we will see you in the next video. Jenny
Reference your poor husband!! My late husband would have called it a dose of Large hand, small map syndrome when you were talking about the rill and paddling pond. When I used to come up with ideas he would say “ Is this another fine mess you are getting me into”😂😂
Danielle from North flower Farm recommended your channel. Thank you for a beautiful garden tour and wising you a happy birthday 🎂 from zone 6 in Connecticut
Thank you and thanks for joining us in Connecticut. It was so fun featuring on Danielle’s channel and a bit surreal too as I’ve been following her for a while, she’s fab! Great that we can all share ideas! Jenny
So much information in this video - Thank you. Note to self: plant lilies next year; don't put sickly Veronicastrum on compost heap - I must have planted it in the wrong place !
Oh wow, mine are planted under the hornbeam and so, like yours only get sun for half the day. I wondered why some of the flowers look a bit funny, it’s called ‘fasciation’ (I didn’t know that but I’ve just googled it!). I had no idea about this and I have learnt this from you, so thank you. I will put mine in full sun too in my top borders. Many thanks, this is what I love about having the channel, I learn so much! Jenny
@@MurphysGarden This is a nice recent discussion on Fasciation, by Rosy Hardy - of Hardy cottage Plants. Lots of other interesting videos on her channel too: ruclips.net/video/bd3tPMpjaU8/видео.html
Yew is a top choice and is easy to grow and in my experience trouble free if grown on free draining soil. It makes a good backdrop to more showy flowers and plants. There are dwarf varieties if you want just a small hedge. I did a video called ‘Best Evergreen trees’ and many on that list also make excellent hedges. There are a few that have some small inconspicuous flowers, I think Portuguese Laurel and Eleagnus make lovely evergreen hedges but both have a small flower. Box of course is great too but may be more risky with blight and box 🐛 caterpillar. RHS Wisley did a box alternative trial which you could check out, pittosporum looks lovely but not as hardy in colder climates Hope this helps Jenny
Is that why you don’t want them with flowers? We’ve never had wasps in any of our hedges but the yew does sometimes seem to attract flies at certain times of the year and one of our box balls has an ants nest in it! Have you considered beech? I know it’s not evergreen but it holds onto its leaves and gives good privacy all year once established and looks beautiful, but maybe you don’t want to have to pick up leaves? What you choose depends on so many different factors- size, colour maintenance. Have you watched my hedge video? It features the most common hedges but perhaps I should do a video on more unusual ones and there really are some great ones that I didn’t even consider as I hadn’t heard of them when I was just planning the garden, things like ilex crenata and Osmanthus (both evergreen but have flowers) Good luck which you choose Jenny
@@MurphysGarden Yes... That's why I don't want flowers. Although there may be some flowers they don't like 🙂 I would consider anything. I don't mind picking leaves up. Thank you for your help again
9:48 it's stipa pulcherrima (=S. barbata). It fits toghether with Limonium latifolium.
And the other grass is probably Melica ciliata.
Thank you so much, just looked them all up and you are absolutely spot on! You obviously know your stuff, do you grow them?
Thanks for your help
Jenny
@@MurphysGarden no, I don't have these plants, but I saw them in a public garden.

Yes, it’s a great asset for the area, we were blown away by the scale of it. A wonderful day out. Thanks for watching

I’ve seen the documentary on the building of this garden. It’s so fun to see it now that it’s grown on. Thanks for sharing!
I haven’t seen the documentary, I will definitely watch it, I would love to see how they did it. Many no thanks

So informative…I love catalpa. The flowers remind me of orchids.
Happy birthday! May you have many more years filled with flowers and grasses!

Can you recommend an evergreen hedge, that doesn't flower please?
