@DisgorgeKILLusa4 Incorrect. 2NG uses AMAP which was developed and manufactured by the German company IBD Deisenroth Engineering which is not part of Rheinmetall. IBD had originally developed MEXAS and now AMAP which is used on several vehicles, including international operators.
yes both the M1A1/A2 have used a side modular armour called TUSK and Challenger 2 always has side modular armour when deployed. The Leopard 2A4 base frontal armour was upgraded with modular MEXAS on A5 upgrade as it was not very effective, so the old Turkish Leo2A4's have just been bought up to a modern standard like the others & its called Evolution. You should really spend some time learning about the things you wish to discuss lol
The older Leopard and the current Abrams have the same Rheinmetall 120mm L/44 cannon. Leopard 2A6 and up are equipped with the more powerful L/56 cannon. (144cm longer barrel). So the Leopard is more like a sniper than the Abrams.
You talk sense. I agree. What America should do though, is get a few of these good, close quarters, up-front, in your facers...but...they should keep the Abrams for 'Desert Storm' scenarios.
The Leopard 2 has been touted as the best MBT in the world for quite awhile now. Yest the Challenger 2, Abrams M1A2, Leclerc and Merk 4 are great tanks, but all rank 2nd to the Leo 2's
@peepeevagi what are you talking about? The Leo 2A6/2A7 has arguably the best protection/mine-protection out of any of the modern tanks available. The only one I see that is able to be better is the latest Merkava version.
This update-concept is not realised and just a obsolete concept, because Turkey instead decided to build the ALTAY MBT as license production of the South Corean K2 Black Panther. Till today only a demonstrator of the ALTAY was shown, so we have to wait for the final one and see than whats the result. Actually South Corea has some problems with the development caused by etat cuts and copyright problems. German companys co-developed the K2 but gave not the rights for exporting their know how.
@CANADIANSCOTTYFD3S They have the Leopard 2A4 CAN which has better armour than this and is deployed in Afgan at the moment. Follow the link above in the video discription and that opens my Leopard 2 page with loads more info on it :)
Actually...the Abrams isn't made for close up combat. Surprisingly, it seems most effective in longer range engagement. You may want to call it a 'tank sniper'. Though...Abrams rounds tend to be a tad off on their aim a lot...but, pffft, wind and all that counts in! I mean, snipers can miss too because of a sudden wind change (not if they're using a .50 cal Berret though...lol).
i love the defense anti laser,no disrespect for the M1 but they already squeeze to many stuff in it and the army must asking for a new model,if i am not wrong the M1 was made in the 80's or late 70's and was upgraded the us don't even build him anymore they restore them.He needs to much fuel and he is damn heavy the leo2 don't even weight 1t and use diesel.I saw on future weapons something the us want to do but idk.
What one of these tanks can do to a bunch of moving terrorist vehicles. Imagine what a hundred of these tanks can do in a pack. Tanks are insanely powerful.
@AdamSavage88 Your joking right? Germany doesn't even have any of these fielded yet, however the Canadians have all the upgrades that is going to be put on the Leo2A7, on their 2A4's and in combat in Afghanistan as we speak. Yes, it is a 2A4 chassis, but has been upgraded to a 2A7 standard, so this time around, Germany isn't first!
Why are we ordering freaking German AMAP armor? Turkeys industry of Boron-Carbon is highly advanced and on of the best, We could build our own Armor with ease or atleast Roketsan-Nurol Reactive Armor and then we should instal extra goodies such as the AKKOR Active protection System. The Time we rely on German is over and we are already able to upgrade any Tank to 3th Generation level.
@BordoEnes Bro the Altay tank at IDEF 2011 was a mock up but Erdogan said to the military that you guys are taking too long & I want the Altay to enter service ASAP.
@Rick2010100 full BS. it is not an obsolete concept. as far as i know aselsan had remained in last 4 firm in polish modernization tender but blocked by germany due to using german made armour in it's project. altay mbt project is not a licence agreement. turkish otokar firm takes technological support from korean rotem firm on some critical matters nothing more we paid app. 500 million usd for this support. altay mbt will be a turkish product not a licenced variant of k2.
Wäre auch mal Cool gewesen wenn du erwähnt hättest das die Upgrades aus türkischer Hand erstellt wurden...
The speaker sounds a little bit "special" ; )
America needs these...this is a lot better than an Abrams I think.

Prototype released at IDEF 2011 together with the first altay tank prototype.
No, Its a domestic designed upgrade package. Which includes several Altay Subsystems and for some reason German AMAP armor...

Canada should upgrade the 2a4 in canadian service with the next generation upgrade
Cool, but I’d like to know how they manage to add all these new updates without increasing it’s weight. They weren’t very clear about this.
