Good God I can't belive its been that long 😭😭😭 I finally have a new game to watch and a new hat to wear! That '08 one was getting musty lol. The 2022 game was hands down better.
As a diehard Memphis fan, this video nearly brought me to tears. First time I've watched anything from that game since that night. Absolutely heartbreaking.
This win doesn't happen without Sherron Collins. Hit a tough layup while getting hammered by Rose, stole an inbound pass and then proceeded to hit the big 3, dribbled nearly the length of the court and laid it off to Chalmers for one of the biggest shots in college basketball history. His steal in OT then set up KU for a run that put them up for good. He didn't get nearly enough praise that he deserved but it was appreciated.
He did the crossover on Rose and he had the vision to let Jackson clear to the top of the key , and big thanks to Collins had he handed to Chalmers instead of flipped it to him , Chalmers may not have had the room to take the Shot ! Caliparis on record saying he directed Rose to foul Collins , but Collins was wayyyy to quick
Probably one of the top 3 NCAA title games of all time. So many NBA players on the floor, an amazing comeback, overtime, 2 powerful teams, good guys winning at the end.....you can't ask for more
I'm not quite old enough to remember the '88 championship, I can recall every season since the '91 title run that ended at the hands of duke. This was one of best feelings ever. To stick with a team after so many heartbreaking losses in the 90s and this decade and then to see them break through and win a championship like they did last year, that's what makes it worth being a die hard fan.
Came here because of the ESPN thumbnail showing it's the 11 year anniversary. This is still such an amazing highlight reel. A bunch of things had to happen perfectly for this to work out the "right" way. Sure enough, they all did. Un-freaking-believable...
My friends and I had this thing called getting "chalmersd'd" because Chalmers always broke our hearts at Texas in the Big 12 tournament every year. Memphis got Chalmersd'd
Memphis needed Larry Finch. He hit 11 of 13 free throws in the 1973 title game, which didn't stave off the great UCLA team. But in 2008, his savvy from the line would have done it.
both teams were stacked...2008 Memphis- dorsey roberts dozier rose ..all 4 have played in the nba...all 4 were college studs ...kansas meanwhile had 8 nba level players chalmers rush arthur aldrich collins robinson williams kaun ...
In this March Madness, I picked Kansas vs. Memphis in the championship game with Kansas winning it all. I had $200 on the line with this game in a betting tournament and I almost turned the game off with 2 minutes to go and Kansas down 9 points. But then Arthur made the jumper and Collins made the clutch steal and 3-pointer. Still Memphis had to miss a couple of free throws and then Chalmers hit the most clutch shot I have ever seen. Then you knew that Kansas would win in overtime. Just godly...
@coolstir10 If you pause just before Rose launches the shot you can clearly see that his entire left foot is inside the line, so it was a 2. UConn fan here, I am still so glad KU prevented Calimari from winning a title.
Chalmers made the 3 but collins put us back in it by his great play the steal the 3 pointer and the steal to start off overtime he was player of the game!!!!!!
@damien1843 if u pause at 1:59 it's clearly behind the 3 point line. Rose got robbed on the shot of the tournament 3 pointer at 0:43. they counted that as 2
when you're the best team in the country up 9, with 2 minutes to go, with the best player in his class leading your team, you chocked... and in the biggest stage possible.
When you have those late-game free throws, there is a hell of a lot more pressure on the shooter. You watch a game and tell: the atmosphere when they are 5 minutes into the 1st half and compare it to when a team is leading a basket with 30 seconds left in the game. You can't compare 'em, the team that can handle the pressure deserves to lose, as we saw Memphis crack under that pressure and lose.
I remember watching this in 8th grade. Sitting in my room just hoping memphis would lose for knocking out my ucla bruins-/3 Gotta say... One of the best comebacks ive ever seen. Besides Ucla/Gonzaga ;) Great game. Sweeter cuz the bully all year, memphis, got knocked out and blew their game
Did anyone see at the end derrick rose was running fine when dozer shot the half-court but suddenly whem he is walking off hes limping when nothing happened
You cant give it all to Memphis though. Once the clock hit 4 minutes, KU did not miss a single shot, free throw or from the field, until Brandon rush missed his wide open layup in overtime.
Billy just won't shut up about "staying with the shot" will he? Lol. Nantz's call of the 3 from Rose being the shot of the tournament... I always chuckle at that. No one likes being premature. And man, that alley-oop from Kansas in OT... that's when you knew they were going to run them into the ground for the next few minutes, haha.
If you make all your free throws (or shoot a high percentage like you should as a team, say 70% minimum plus the entire game), then you have those points to fall back on if things get ugly later, every bucket counts. This "stretch" talk to me is for dramatic purposes really, because everybody is up, excited, biting nails, its close and about to end, compared to the first few minutes of the game.
KU missed free throws too, just the way it goes, they all count, ones at the beginning, and end. I know one thing, one of the best, if not the best finishes of any Championship game in history. To me the save by a diving Collins to keep the ball in play was bigger than Chalmers shot. Because that wasn't the shocking part, because once Chalmers had the ball, you knew it was a done deal, Chalmers is like money in the bank when it comes to stepping up in situations like that.
0:44 "There is the shot of the tournament."
"Hold my beer." - Chalmers
EXACTLY 1:58 is the greatest shot of the tournament. Decade maybe.
Watching the KU intro for games today, when you're in Allen Fieldhouse and see that, everyone screams and goosebumps.
Collins imo was the hero
Now Kansas is back on top of the mountain 14 years later!
Good God I can't belive its been that long 😭😭😭
I finally have a new game to watch and a new hat to wear! That '08 one was getting musty lol. The 2022 game was hands down better.
I still get chills when I watch this
+Andrew Barker same 8 years later
What a shot at the end of the game to send this game in overtime.

This is why FREE throws matter!
This is incredible quality for a 2008 video. Especially after a few days after this game.
as much as i love praising ku and chalmers. memphis shot themselves in the foot on this one. cant miss that many free throws in that close a ball game
Yeah that game still bothers me to this day. If they would of even shot a measly 50% from line it would of been tied.
Stop it they could've played better in ot
Making plays is so much more than free throws - all teams miss free throws not all could do what KU did.

2022 is also top 3
The biggest comeback on championship night
hell yeah. this still gives me goosebumps. I remember running downtown after watching the game with thousands of fellow hawk fans in the PHOG. Magic
@0:44"there is the shot of the tournament" ........waaaaaaait for it
realitities2 Didn't even notice that until you pointed it out. Haha little did he know what was about to unfold.
Mario Chalmers: lol

i'm not even a Kansas fan and this still gives me chills
Derick Rose will never forget that 3 pointer my boy Chalmers hit on him. Classic!
still one of the most nerve racking but also exciting games of basketball I've ever watched.
I'm a UK fan and I'm glad my 'Cats are back in the Final Four and have a chance to make great memories like Kansas did here.
whos here after KU won in 2022
This is the first time I've seen the trophy presentation. I was busy raging on Mass.
We'll see how the PG play is for KU come the '14 tournament. Nevertheless, I'll never forget this game.

Memphis got Chalmersd'd
Now that's what you call snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat.
Or in Memphis' case, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, LOL

People forget what LOADED team we had!
both teams were stacked...2008 Memphis- dorsey roberts dozier rose ..all 4 have played in the nba...all 4 were college studs ...kansas meanwhile had 8 nba level players chalmers rush arthur aldrich collins robinson williams kaun ...
yall can talk shit on chalmers but to us Kansas fans he's fucking god!

The Chalmer's 3 will always be what's showcased when talking about this game, but Collins' steal and 3 with 1:54 to go was the turning point.
Best game I have ever seen and probably ever will see... Let's Go Kansas in 2011!!! P.S. Don't let Jim Nance commentate in the championship game...
@jphset1 I'm talking about ROse's foot...it was ALL the way behind the line. Not CHalmers
Kinda ironic that Self’s only title came when someone out choked him.
Kansas Win The 2022 In 14 Years Later Over The North Carolina #Kansas #Rockchalk
Thanks for posting this! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Bill Self is a man who once lost 18 straight games as a coach at Oral Roberts...I think it is safe to say he has come a very long way.
That was a GOOD YEAR !
Great recap to watch...... D- ROSE!
This give me goose bumps. Best feeling in my life. Kinda sad but true, lol.
THis year reminds me a lot of the 08 championship season...
2020 13 days before Christmas 🎄... KU game cancelled bcuz of COVID-19. Missing KU basketball, more like finding for it. That why I'm here
Wow Amazing.. Very exciting game.. Love it!!
What a Game. Best Final 4 Game of All Time. Superior.
@coolstir10 If you pause just before Rose launches the shot you can clearly see that his entire left foot is inside the line, so it was a 2. UConn fan here, I am still so glad KU prevented Calimari from winning a title.
Rooting for Kansas in 2018 go jayhawks
Derek Rose ... soon to be MVP in a only his 3rd NBA season.. WOW!
Anybody know what happened to the Final Four banner at Memphis? Oh, it got vacated. To be continued at Kentucky...
this game haunts me everyday! kansas got really lucky
Ikr this is the reason why fuckin hate Mario chalmers
Why do it haunt you Memphis would've been stripped of the title anyway thank to Caligari.
Chalmers made the 3 but collins put us back in it by his great play the steal the 3 pointer and the steal to start off overtime he was player of the game!!!!!!
@damien1843 if u pause at 1:59 it's clearly behind the 3 point line. Rose got robbed on the shot of the tournament 3 pointer at 0:43. they counted that as 2
Had this exact same Kansas team been duke or north carolina, they would be widely considered a top 10 team of all time
One of the great choke jobs of all times by Memphis!
Made a March Madness Bracket this year, picked Kansas. I was screaming so many fucking things during this game, in the end I won $200.
I fucking lost $300 when Memphis shit themselves
Collins was critical steal then 3 pointer - falling pass to Chalmers for the tie.
when you're the best team in the country up 9, with 2 minutes to go, with the best player in his class leading your team, you chocked... and in the biggest stage possible.
@Statalyzer I'm talkin bout Chalmers' gam-tying shot at the end of regulation.
When you have those late-game free throws, there is a hell of a lot more pressure on the shooter. gotta love nantz saying that's the shot of the tournament after rose's bank, he didn't know how wrong he was
i love Chalmers three and commentary
did drose get hit above to eye or sumthing like that in this game and start to bleed?? or im i thinkin of a different game?????
My favorite is the so called "shot of the tournament" at 0:45... Hahahaha, Rock Chalk!
We believe in you Chalmers!
Gotta love it..... Rock Chalk!!! GO KANSAS!!!
Chalmers isn't a fail with Miami. He's a top 15 PG in the NBA, no doubt.
@Jumpnswish15 i'm not even a fan of kansas and i get goosebumps everytime when the ball is inbounded. crazy crazy crazy
ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK! Let's make it 2-0 against Calipari. Beliiiiieeeeeeevvvvve!
@alexbzdyra As of right now, Kansas is #1 seed and have won 25 or more wins the last three seasons including a national championship.
I only live an hour north of the nest, lawrence
"There's the shot of the tournament." haha nope
chalmers had the shot of tournament between 2003-2015 that's for sure...shot of the decade ...only a few rival it..
Kris Jenkins shot is better.
@@persistentlypathetic6820 disagree bc if Jenkins missed it, the game isn't over
it funny how mario chalmers and derrick rose both played and same game in the ncca so they know each other skill
@percyjacksonization Thanks man. I hope Ben McLemore will be eligible. Is Mario Litttle still around?
I don't think he was saying Chalmers is better than Rose, rather pointing out that Chalmers with Miami is in no way a failure.
@tykuresa22 He took off with one foot inside the line, therefore it is a 2.. Doesn't matter where he lands.
this could have been the end result of 2011 for them had they taken care of business vs VCU..they'd have beaten Butler and UCONN
@CrodieBroyle What does Rock Chalk mean? From Japan
Memphis did try to foul. Calipari was yelling at everyone to do so but they couldn't get it done, makes the shot that much more impressive.
Fiending for another championship 2021...
Did anyone see at the end derrick rose was running fine when dozer shot the half-court but suddenly whem he is walking off hes limping when nothing happened
I went streaking after this win ROOOOCCKKK CHALLLLKKKK!!!
You cant give it all to Memphis though. Once the clock hit 4 minutes, KU did not miss a single shot, free throw or from the field, until Brandon rush missed his wide open layup in overtime.
@dirtysnatcheater & @truegarthalgar yes I am in denial, they should have reviewed the shot, his foot was on the line
im a memphis fan but damn thats why you gotta practice your freethrows!!
I wanna see this again tommorow
0:20 man rose had some hangtime
drose probably still has nightmares over those free throws
goosebumps everytime
imma memphis fane but damn this is why you practice your freethrows!
@damien1843 You mean Rose's shot at 0:44?
i remember almost shitting myself when chalmers made that shot. i swore i woke up my neighbors with all my yelling and celebrating
All I remember is Memphis' coach shrugging off their free throw problems all year.
Oh shit!
wow what a clutch 3-pointer...Rock Chalk Jayhawk
because chalmers was such a big contributor to the heat last season..
And Chalmers is a champion once again! This time it's bigger :) NBA Title :)
Just gotta do that again

legendary shot by chalmers
no kidding.. next year baby

its funny how Rose didnt made the free throw with the bulls in a similar situation teh other day
