I'm an A&P (big jets) and own a share in a Mooney. 30 year Flight Engineer. Nose tire went flat yesterday. Needs new tube. Thank you for this video. Excellent explanation. Talc was new but makes sense. Just have to look up the torque.

    Great how-to.
It gives me the confidence to do it myself.
The use of talcum powder was new to me. Thanks!

A hanger door will also do the job.

Leave the bolts in and torqued. Deflate the tire and break the bead by stepping on the sidewall with your heels near the bead area. This will usually do the job. I use a bead breaker available from Aircraft Tool and Supply. A gigantic vice would work too.

Was there a specific place on the tire that the tube air fitting had to align with?
Also, What air pressure did you use on your air line?

I lined the valve stem up opposite the heavy mark. I filled my 850 to 28lbs, the recommend pressure is max of 30lbs.

Step one should be to make sure the tire is deflated. Yes it can happen, it did happen. Lucky no injuries.

What is the brand of your new tires?

Question: Does an A&P mechanic have to sign off on the tire change, or can I do that paperwork myself?

    • @HookedOnUtah
      @HookedOnUtah  4 года назад

this is one of the few things you can do yourself, you need to log it in your books.

@@HookedOnUtah Whew!!! I took the wheel off in 2016 and took it to an A&P who put the tire on for me. I signed my logs as doing it my self. I thought for a minute I'd have to report myself to the FAA... NOT!

Do you have to have a AMP License to change a tire tube

      You don’t need one!

owner maintenance OK on this one....along with brake pads, oil, several others which fall under preventative maintenance not requiring A&P.

      Not required. Owner can do.

1st is to release tire pressure before unbolting, watched that happen one time!

Power wheelchairs are two piece rims as well, lot of people hurt themselves not letting that pressure off

Always where a mask when using talc!

Good video....but NEVER break the bead with the bolts out! Wheel can fall apart and it will drop, or, worse yet, you can deform the bolts due to the pressure of the bead breaking.

Before you add talc run your hand around inside the tire to ensure no defects or protrusions which might punture the tube. Never use an old tube with a new tire. Tubes expand up to 25 % .putting it in the new tire it has a tendency to creat folds which will then be subject to wear and rupture. Good year has a goog video on line to show this. Licensed aircraft maintenace engineer here. Good video otherwise.
