As a Japanese, I really appreciate and respect how Kim dealt with this problem. Making mistakes is inevitable for everyone but not everyone can face critical opinions so humbly, admit her mistake and fix it immediately without talking back, like Kim did. I actually love her more than before.

Either they did it for a publicity stunt as this is now a storyline on the show or they just genuinely thought they’d be able to get away with it like they get away with the other things they’ve stolen. Everyone knows Kimono is Japanese, including her.
I think is cause supposed to be a play of words her name, Kim + the word Mono (monochromatic) the thing is obviously together it means something else. And to be honest I already knew about how important the garment is for Japanese culture but this made me realize the word itself needs to be respected.

I agree. But I think some people just forget the significance - origins - of the Kimono because its used a lot as a describing word for a certain style of garment. Lots of those silk things you wear over lingerie or those things you wear over your swim suits are called/named kimonos online - even tho they're not. But that being said, the name didn't even go with the products considering most of them were shareware and underwear. The whole things just a miss.

Kim is so business savvy, there is no way she did not know. I am sure the idea was to name it Skims in the first place. But they are smart enough to know that bad publicity is publicity at the end of the day. So they came up with Kimono knowing exactly that a backlash would immediately follow. The marketing machine and media frenzy did the job. The rest is history.
