@@AVeryRandomPerson there was plans on extending the blue line to Elk Grove, but the project is on Hiatus (it was part of a two part deal. First deal was RT's acquisition of E-Tran)
They definitely need to extend the Blue line to arc and to sunrise mall since that is going to be redeveloped into a walkable neighborhood and have other amenities.
The Green line is supposed to go all the way to SMF airport. One short fall of Sacramento RT is there is the huge area between the I-80 and US-50 corridors with no service at all. All those people just keep driving cars.
I know what you mean lived in Carmichael. I went to school downtown I had to walk half mile to the bus to get watt/i80, if they want to fix traffic in Carmichael Citrus Heights they need to extend the blue line north.
yeah thats because its all shitty suburbs like Arden, carmichael and citrus heights who probably wont ever get expanded sac RT anyway because theyre full of suburban NIMBYs which is a shame, because there's just as many people who would like to have it, but the NIMBYs have all the power...
I love Sac RT... I really want them to expand a line through to midtown, maybe even over tower bridge to west Sacramento and the baseball stadium... as well as send the green line to the airport through natomas like they've been wanting to do for years.. Theres a ton of potential for RT so long as the city really commits to it...
Neat to see a video about SAC RT Here's some additional Fun Facts about the system: *The RT light rail is technically more of tram system (as it has street running in downtown), but "light rail" was the popular term of the 80's so that's what it's called. *The tracks between Marconi/Arcade and Roseville Road stations travel on a overpass originally built for a realignment of the Business 80 Highway (SR51/ Elvas Freeway) that was canceled just as the planning for the light rail project began.
I hate the fact that 39th Street has been renamed to “39th Street UC Davis Health”. My stepmom works at UC Davis Health, and the area she works is way closer to 48th Street station than 39th Street station.
I've came back add a forgotten fact that Morrison Creek between Franklin and Meadowview opened in 2021, as well as a planned future Green Line extension to the airport which includes a new "infill" loop near Sac Valley
I find it quite a useless station as it was opened to serve a community that doesn't exist yet and the only way to access without riding is taking a small trail from the Meadowview neighborhood
It looks that way on a map, but in Seattle both our lines run every 10 minutes all day and have much faster travel speeds due to the underground alignments for most of the route
Is the rest of the Central Valley contemplating on building their own separate light rail and/or BRT system to supplement both Sacramento AND BART systems for Stockton, Manteca/Tracy & Modesto residents? Maybe Merced? Simply given the jobs in the Bay Area but said area is still too expensive for even a lot of good paying jobs, but not bad to Central Valley standards? Oh, and worsening freeway congestion?
California High Speed Rail Is Coming To Sacramento: Route 1 Anaheim/Los Angeles - Sacramento. Route 2 San Francisco/San Jose - Sacramento via Merced Route 2A San Francisco-Oakland/East Bay-Sacramento. Route 3 San Diego/Inland Empire - Sacramento.
IMO the Capitol Corridor isn't a good enough connection in general, especially with it being fraught with issues regarding Union Pacific. I know funding will probably never happen, but an express route between Sacramento Valley Station and Walnut Creek via the delta would provide a fast and reliable connection more fitting for the volume of people going between the regions.
incredible history. I didn't know that the Blue Line (the line folks use to get to Consumnes pre-CRC station) was started in 2003. I can see the practicality of the Blue Line, which was helpful for folks in South Sacramento to commute to the city or to I-80. But the 2015 CRC line was the biggest deal for everyone (heck even CRC folks were happy about it)
it is a good place for a capital a nicely historic proud city with a slower, more relaxed, older, vibe to it, it combines some elements of the northern and southern states cultural heritage. in addition, the city is one where government would not interfere with the cities other functions, meaning it is not too expensive, both in land price, for the administrative offices, and in terms of providing a reasonably competitive standard of living for lower level government employees... it is reasonably well connected, yet, was dominated by the kinds of land where one can expand new sports and other infrastructure (thus benefiting from it's capital status).
@@analoguegeek To be honest, legal difficulties aside, culturally, the bay area might as well separate into an independent state, it is it's own thing much more than it is the rest of California.
They’re fixed in this video - I had originally posted this Evolution last week, but I’ve removed it now that this corrected video is up. I changed the following: - Mar 1987: Line opened as far as 13th St. - 7th & K stop is now shown with Gold Line service. - 8th & H stop is now shown as opening in 2012.
@@khxliakhxlia3605 Keep in mind i was young (like 14) Homeless guy tried to scam me by trading tickets when I was buying them, the train was not very busy but the majority of passengers seemed to be drugged out and were acting erratic and rather aggressive towards me. I cop came on at a stop and pretty much stuck with me cuz she saw I was out of place. Pretty much Sacramento doesn't prioritize public transit so anyone with any means doesn't take the light rail, which leads to above experience.
The given population is based on the sum of all the counties and independent cities with stations in them. So for Sacramento 1.5 is the population of Sacramento County.
That is incorrect. Sacramento's Light Rail System is not the slowest traveling speed in the world. The average speed is 55 mph throughout much of the entire system. It can go up to a speed of 65-70 mph, but it is not allowed to. San Francisco's Light Rail travel speed is slower than compared to Sacramento's Light Rail at its average speed of only 10 mph mainly of its system.
Sacramento is the Ottawa of California. Sacramento's economy is overwhelmingly just the government and the nearby universities of CSU Sacramento and UC Davis. Sacramento is otherwise a boring town with a small, short skyline, because with no corporations, demand for high rise offices is very limited. Don't forget California's politics, with a Democratic supermajority in both houses of the legislature and a Democratic governor, is ideologically more similar to Canada's federal government than America's federal government. Even Republicans in California are more moderate than Republicans in the rest of America.
Yep California.. The other CA. Also so true about downtown Sacramento it's soo boring.. could be more interesting but nobody has cared much yet to make it an attractive place to visit.
I think it's a scenic enough place depending on the area, but we don't really have a lot going on, so we're more a satellite of the SF bay area. Housing prices are going up because of bay area residents jumping ship in even larger numbers, but we are defintely missing out on an actual good rail connection between the two areas.
You must be a more indoor person living in Sacramento and never tour around the entire of Sacramento area. I don't even live there, and I find many things to do there when I come there lol.
1.5 million? not even close... ur probably talking about the county or the metro which includes adjacent counties... the city itself barely has 500k, which is nothing to sneeze at, but it's nowhere near what u lead people to believe... thumbs down right off the bat, and skip this video and channel for not even doing the most basic research
The population given is for Sacramento County, given that the light rail network services many stops outside the city proper. There’s more information on how I calculate my population in the description of the video
To @daleva187goligo: That is incorrect. The city itself is more than 500,000 population since 2018 and still going up right now. There are parts of the areas in the City of Sacramento that is not being counted like Parkway, Lemon Hill, Florin, Arden-Arcade, Rosemont, La Riviera and part of Natomas Area neighborhoods. If those parts of the areas were counted, the city itself is at nearly 600k. The entire Greater Sacramento Area is near or at 2.5 million.
CORRECTION: 7th & I/County Center on the Gold line opened in March 2007, not December 2006 as shown.
the population that is mentioned in the video seems to be the urban area population

Sacramento needs to expand their light rail system. The greenline township, 10 years ago was the last extension.
Actually, the Blue Line extension in 2015 was the last

I get them mixed up with SanJose city and system. I still can't understand why california capital is the most northern major city.
because LA really didnt exist when it became the capitol and nobody likes Fresno.
