This all new redesigned model provides a ton of flexibility for smoke levels, as well as flavor adding options to your cooks! I've used a prototype for several weeks now and it is amazing! The smoke box feature allows you to add charcoal flavor or added hardwood to your cooks in conjunction with the flexibility from the controller to adjust smoke levels from 1-10. Mike - I'm new to the Camp Chef line.
I'm blown away at how clean you keep a working smoker! It also shows the build quality of the smoker.
My main reason for going with the Woodwind 36 is the propane sear station.
Love the convenience of a long cook, smoke option, or a quick cook grill option.
The searing is really a great feature that you don’t have access to with most others.
I’m in Canada, and just managed to find a store here that started getting them in! Your video, upsets me tremendously, because you make me want it today, and not the end of June! Great job my friend! Looking forward to going through your videos.
Thank you for your support 🙏
Good review Mike! The best Woodwind yet!
I agree 💯, brother! Over the past several weeks I’ve put that prototype through it’s paces. It really made me a believer in this cooker and the food was noticeably better! Thank you for your support, Rus!
Looking at getting my first pellet grill. Certainly been hearing a lot of good things about the Woodwind Pro. Thanks for the review.
Great job on review. Been looking for another smoker. Bought a trager that I had to return. No heat control. You sold me on Camp Chef. Thanks.
I always enjoy your reviews. You do a wonderful job! Keep up the good work Mike. Stan
Thank you very much for watching, Stan!
Excellent review Mike - really well put together and has definitely tempted me to get one!
*thank you very much for watching, Jon!*
Mike...in a word your video is AWESOME. I have an older Woodwind and it's getting old. Going to buy the new Pro based on your review. I will do it via a link as long as you get credit for the sale. Kudos to your videos.
Thanks very much, David!
Loved the honest review, you did great. Subscribed!
Thank you very much. I truly appreciate your support!
Great video and great review Mike! The closed pool in the background is a quick reminder I need to get the plow truck serviced and ready to go sooner than I want to.
lol yea I needed to get that done early. Last year we waited too long and I froze my 🥜 off doing it lol.
Mike you did an awesome job on this review and the video was as always good quality! I love that feature of putting wood or charcoal in for extra flavor, that's awesome. If didn't have enough smokers and grills I'd be checking this one out. Lol Take care Mike!
lol I hear ya, Doug! Thank you very much for watching!
I just ordered the 24 inch. I am so excited! Thanks for the video
Thank you and congratulations!
Awesome review and great features on that Camp Chef Mike!!!
Thank you, brother!
Mike sorry for the delay in watching was in Florida for 3 weeks ,, got back to Montana just ahead of this storm.. Love your videos my friend you are very easy to listen to and learn from thank YOU Frank from montana.......
I really appreciate your support, Frank!
Excellent review Mike! Very thorough and very knowledgeable of the product. Little pricey but something I might be looking into soon. Thanks again and take care. Cheers🍻
I was very skeptical about this, especially after knowing the pricing. It took me a while to get over that, but with each cook, my skepticism gave way to utter joy for finding that missing piece to pellet grill cooking. The added flavor and flexibility really are worth it in my opinion.
Thank you so much for watching, commenting, and supporting me!
Just ordered mine. Can’t wait to dive into the possibilities.
Congratulations!
Great review Mike. I have the 24 coming and I can’t wait, especially after seeing this review.
You’re gonna love it, brother!
Very good review, I've been thinking about buying this one to upgrade from my smaller one. Thanks for the detail review, I really like the feature that you can put some briquettes in there for extra flavor. That looks different from some of the other ones that I've seen.
I can tell you with absolute certainty that this works well enough for me to have fallen in love with it lol. It’s worth the consideration if nothing else.
Great review, Mike. New follower. My 36 comes Friday with cover, sidekick and the BBQ sear topper. Can't wait. Left RecTeq to join a new family called Camp Chef.
Been waiting for this one as well, great stuff. I really love this grill (and yes I've been using it since may)
Thank you brother! I love it!
I'm a new owner of a Camp Chef, so it'll be quite awhile until I can justify an upgrade. But if I keep loving the smoker, I think this is such a no-brainer. Also thanks for reviewing the clean up. That's always missed from reviews but it's so important.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Hey, Mike- that was really well done! A note on the cover: I’ve had the Flat Top 600 griddle for coming up on three years now, and the cover is a perfect fit, stays put using the cinch straps, and even being outside this entire time it still looks like new.
I’ve been thinking about a Yoder as my first pellet, but just can’t seem to quite pull the trigger on it. Thanks to you, I’m heading to the Camp Chef site now to do some shopping. 😁 This is partly based on my experience with the flat top and partly based on your review: clear and well said in your presentation, excellent video work, plus you seem like a good guy. Cheers and thanks!
Thank you very much, John!!
Great video! I just assembled my Pro 24. Looks like rain for the next 3 days, so I'll have to wait for my first cook. Looking forward to it though.
Great review from up here in Canada! 👍 I'm sold!
Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Excellent review Mike!! I really like the sidekick accessory. Definitely would be cool with cast iron grates. 🍻
Thank you very much for watching and commenting!
Great job Mike loving that drawer for added wood or coal really nice review sir
Thank you very much as always!
I like the design of that smoker. Also, that smoke box is a genius idea for a pellet smoker! 👌🏻
I agree, 100 it has really grown on me
Just returned my louisiana 900 pellet grill to costco yesterday as the controller failed, hopefully this Campchef model comes to Australia soon, great review.
Just finished putting mine together. Pretty easy to do. I'm going to do a start up later this week when i have some free time.
Interesting my woodwind is only like over a year old. Been using smoke box with wood chips or smoke tube with pellets to get more smoke. But i see how convenient this is. Thanks for the detailed demo/review👍. Now i’m thinking about upgrading😁
Lol well the true beauty of this is the clean smoke you can achieve with the added coals/chunks because of it being located right over the fire pot. That’s the real huge thing. Clean smoke. Other options tend to produce a bitter flavor. Thank you for watching, FFM!
Great review Mike! I have the original 36' model and I love it!!! That smoke box thing looks like a major game changer!!
Perfect words, brother! That’s exactly what it is!
I think they are on to something with the wood chamber. Very innovative and will probably spark more innovation in the pellet cooker market. Nice review, Thanks!
Thank you very much,Troy!
@@EverydayBBQhi,should i go for 24 ” or 36” . Not a big family dont think i will ever cook more than 1 brisket. is 24" enough?
@@adamli7168 it is 👍🏼
I've never seen your channel before but everything was perfect. The content was spot on with no details left out. Instant subscribe. Thank you!
Thank you very much, Wil.
Looks like a really good grill. Thanks for the thorough video.
Thanks for watching
Great review Mike. It is definitely on my list. I have help off on a pellet because of the lack of smoke flavor. This makes it more likely I will take the plunge
It is a game changer. Thank you for watching, Eric!
Very interesting pit!!! Thanks Mike! I learned lots!!
Thank you, Tommy! 🙏
The best review, and i watched a lot of them.
I truly appreciate that 🙏
Great information. I currently have a Treager 570 Pro, which has provided us with some wonderful cooks. However, after watching a different video comparing 6 pellet grills, I became infatuated with the Camp Chef Pro with the smoke box. I don’t need a new grill, but I want one.
I’ve had a camp chef woodwind for about 7 years now and I can’t complain at all. I’ve contacted customer service once for a bad thermometer and they sent me a new one no questions asked. It’s always outside but covered and I could let it sit for months and it fires right up. Was thinking of going with a larger one and was looking at the rectec but I think you just changed my mind. Well done nice review?
I just started cooking on my new Woodwind Pro 24 this week: pork belly burnt ends, burgers, and salmon. This is my first smoker ever. The fam and I absolutely have loved the food and I feel like I’m a little spoiled since I can’t compare it to older gen pellet smokers.
It’s really amazing. Glad you are enjoying it!
I’ve had a wood wind for several years. It replaced a green mountain grill that I wore out. So I’ve been using pellet grills for a long time. I planned on replacing my current grill with a newer model in the spring because of added features like the pizza oven. Now with this new update being able to use chunk wood it’s a done deal. Once the snow is gone I will be ordering the 24 inch camp chef pro.
I think you’ll love it, Rick. I’ve used the prototype for several weeks. I’m completely sold on it. It works!
@@EverydayBBQ
is that the only reason? is quality better or any other reasons?
@@EverydayBBQ, how about a detailed video of the wifi and app setup. No one has done a video of this for the Pro yet. Thanks. It is a very important part of the grill that everyone is over looking. Much appreciated.
Great Review looks like it could be game changer.
I think there’s zero doubt about it in my mind! Thank you very much for watching, John!
Great review. Mostly likely going to get one
Great video. I have an offset smoker which I love but sometimes I'm not able to feed it splits for hours. Because of you, I will consider this cooker. Thanks
Thank you very much for watching!
I've been waiting for this video, now I need this grill. The problem is my 24" is still working great!
Lol 😂 hey it’s my most harsh judge of all! How are you, brother? This is a game changer. The day you were here and we had that tri-tip (and lots of bourbon) this is the cooker that delivered the meal!
Great video and production quality. I can FINALLY make a decision and order a pellet grill. Well, after I decide between the 24" and the 36", LOL.
looks like one of the better designed pellet grills I have seen. Cheers brother!
Thank you very much for watching!
About to buy my first smoker. Once this passes all certification in Canada I’m pulling the trigger on the 36” woodwind pro
straight to the point, not a lot of b/s, was a damn good video sir.
great review i purchased a 36 inch smoker with the side grill and havent used the side gril yet but the smoker gets used year round i love it! meat probes are messing up not sure what to do about that they all read between 220 to 250. I love that feature with the charcoal box LOL. GOOD cleanup video too thanks for the tips.
Thank you very much, Ken!
You are the best Mike!!!
I truly appreciate the opportunity and all the support Camp Chef has shown me 🙏
Great informational video..💯🔥👍🏼👍🏼
Hi, Mike. A quick follow up to my earlier comment: I’ve had the 36” Pro for several months now. I didn’t get the Sidekick, but I did buy the thermal blanket. Wow! I’ve been out doing an overnight brisket at -24F. The Pro didn’t blink. I’m sure the blanket helps, but unless I’m on maximum smoke setting, it absolutely holds temperatures beautifully. I just re-watched this presentation of yours and I don’t disagree with a thing. Smoke and bark are fantastic, some of my grandsons have said it produces the best ribs they’ve ever had, and I absolutely love this Woodwind. I do keep it in my garage between cooks, but my driveway is hard-packed gravel. For that reason alone, I wish the casters were a bit bigger as they tend to dig in as I maneuver the smoker to outdoors. There’s a bunch more I could say about the woodwind, but this will do it for now. Thanks again for your commentary and for steering me toward pulling the trigger on this unit.
I’m glad you’re enjoying it!
always love your content mike ! Brilliant as always So the 36 is black and the 24 is silver ?
No, the 24" I show in this video was a prototype so it was opposite. The final versions are all the same, stainless body, black lid as show here with the 36". Thank you very much for watching!
Great video and very timely as I am about to pull the trigger for my first pellet grill. My only question for now is how well does the wifi app work away from your home? Like running an errand or at church during a cook. Any issues?
Personally, I have never had an issue, but I have only used a handful of times. I don’t normally recommend that you leave the grill unattended for really long periods of time and that’s just pellet grills in general although I’ve never had an issue I still think it’s not something you should do too often regardless of what brand you go with.
Great video. Well done sir
I always enjoy your videos. Maybe you could do one where you cook with the smoker? BTW, I use your Italian beef sandwich recipe all the time!
Awesome! Yes, there will be cook videos coming. All the cooks I showed in the video were done with the prototype. Cook videos coming soon.
Nice video, this the next level of pellet grills. My concern is the build quality. The body is stainless, paper thin stainless. The big question I have is how well the butterfly flap over the fire pot is going to stand up to 400+ temps. I am pretty certain it is going to get cherry red and possibly start warping. I will hold off on this cooker a little while longer. Thanks for the great review.
Every time I see you demonstrating a new cooker it's as though you're trying to spend my money! LOL I've not been able to do much grilling the past couple of years due to some health issues but maybe next year. It looks like quite a terrific product.
I pray for your health and fast healing, Tom. I appreciate your support very much.
Thanks Mike!
Thanks so much for great and detailed review. It sure looks like a fantastic smoker. many upgrades and nicer features. I really like the pro smoke box and that the lid is insulated. Question, there is no possibility of direct sear in the smoker, right. You need to use the side kick for that? Thanks
Correct! You need the Sidekick with Grill Box attachment for that but honestly that is WAY BETTER than any pellet grill sear option I've ever seen. Thank you very much for watching!
@@EverydayBBQ I think so too. All the grease dripping directly to the bottom is goin to make a royal mess and more complex to clean. I have a side kick, so would just need to attach it. Thanks
Great video and thank you for sharing
Thank you for watching!
I want this thing so badly.
Solid review
Thank you very much, Robert!
Great review Mike, as a person that owns black cars I can tell you, black is the hardest color to keep clean, it shows any Imperfections! At least it does on cars, silver is the best color, just my 2 cents there. Great review tho, great camera work, sounded great, wouldn't change anything.
Thank you very much for watching, Darin! Yes, I agree under normal circumstances that black is harder to keep clean but I think this would be an exception to the rule. The lid is black but it is coated which will likely make for easy cleanup and it won't show much carbon buildup as it will match the color until cleanup lol.
Nice work, looks like a great pellet cooker.. It makes me wonder, if the wood chunks and charcoal are what is bringing the taste to the next level if going with a barrel cooker would be a better choice?
Barrel cookers are amazing flavor givers. You will lose the convenience of the automatic temp control, but I wouldn’t argue with you either way, Swaggy.
Very well done! Thank-you
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Great review - am toying with the upgrade to either pellet or offset and now it got harder. If you have any idea of when these are going to be available in other countries (UK here) that would be much appreciated.
I’m unsure but check out camp chefs site
Your video was well done Mike -- they always are. Is this Pro so good that I should get rid of my DLX and buy new?
It’s really a great grill. I have heard of delivery issues since launch, but both of mine arrived fine and had no issues. The flavor it adds is definitely noticeable and welcomed if you’re into that sort of premium or notch up type stuff. I think if you can easily afford it, I’d consider it. If it would be a stretch, maybe not. That’s really more up to you.
Great video….awesome grill by Camp Chef…..I too don’t understand why the bottom shelf isn’t stainless, it would have been, in my opinion, a more complete package. I hope Camp Chef desires to change that!!! Thank you for posting!!!
As mentioned it's really not an issue, I'm just super picky lol. Thank you very much for watching!
If anything could make me want a pellet grill, this sure does. Very cool👍
Thank you very much for watching and commenting, Bobbi!
I love the concept! The one question I have is how quick does it get up to temp? The one reason I use my Masterbuilt 1050 gravity fed more than my RecTeq pellet is because it will get up to temp QUICK! If this gets up to temp quick, I'm thinking hard about buying it. Thanks for your in-depth review!
I’m always cooking within 10-15 minutes or sooner.
so is this the same as the Woodwind WIFI 36 but with the added Smoke box. The previous model had that sear plate that could be slid open or closed. Do you find that this version is much improved over that previous model for both smoking AND grilling? I want an all in one unit and think with the side grill, I'd have an all in one unit. Also......where is the link to the new cover? I looked on their website, and the pics still show the smokestack style cover. Did I miss it on the website?
Love my Woodwind Pro 36. Takes some time to adjust the settings but overall, best deal for the money. Here in upstate NY, they can take my gas stove but they won’t take my smoker.
Lol smoke on! 💨
Great info, thanks,
Great review. I use a Masterbuilt 560 now . How long does the pellet fuel last before needing a refill?
Lots of variables there. Outside temp/humidity, cooking temperature, brand of pellets, etc. since it’s a 36” cooker, it consumes more than the standard 24”. I have not noticed anything excessive however. It’s pretty normal.
Thank you for a great video.
Thank you for watching!
New to the pellet grill game. I like your video and respect your opinion. Why pick this over the Tregar equivalent? thanks
The smoke box is a unique feature to this grill.
First time viewer here. As far as video quality I felt yours was above average. Not a bunch of splicing, stop/start/stutter. Audio quality was good, your speech was easily heard and discernible. Lighting was good. So… overall, an above average presentation. I felt you were earnest and honest. Not trying to sell a product.
Great review Mike! 💪
As a Woodwind owner, the one thing I noticed was that there was no Slide and Grill knob? I use that a lot on mine. I guess this is focused more on smoking?
I actually never used the slide and grill knob because it was nowhere near as good as having the cedar box or the grill box with the sidekick. This cooker is definitely more focused on the smoking part of the cook, but if you combine it with the sidekick and grill box it is absolutely off the chain. Good! Hey, thank you very much for watching, brother. I really appreciate your support and I enjoy your contact as well.
Great review. This was the first review of yours I watched and I liked that you didn’t get sidetracked on points that don’t matter like many other do. I have been using pellet grills for years but have not used a Camp Chief yet, this one looks like it’s time to upgrade. In your review you showed an adjustable damper in the rear of the cooker and I have not seen that on a pellet grill before, why do I need to control that on a pellet grill? Again great video
It’s really just to control smoke flow and also can help hold temps in different kinds of climates. Nothing major at all. Thank you very much for watching and providing feedback, Chuck.
@@EverydayBBQ have you used that feature in your cooks?
@@chuckintres4243 I have not. I just keep it simple.
Thanks for your help
Very unique, with that smokebox. How does this grill compare to the RecTeq Flagship 1100?
Hey mike- does it need a blanket for the cold weather or does it hold temp in even subzero weather? I live in MN and the winters are a little intense here! Cheers!
With previous models, extreme cold weather would benefit greatly from the blanket. This newer model has additional insulation on the lid and the back wall venting system. I haven’t used it in extreme cold but I think it’s safe to say it should be better then the old model. That said, you may still need the blanket and that would likely also make it run more efficiently as well.
You did a great job. Being *0 I could hear and understand you quite well. Thank you.
Thank you for the feedback, John!
good job mike
Great review and I love the concept of being able to use real wood, but it looks a little flimsy. Like you said that top grate is in 2 pieces, which does not make sense, especially if you have a large brisket. How is the thickness of the smoker? Do you think it would hold heat in the cold and snow?
I’ve cooked in all kinds of weather. The cooker is great quality. It’s not the thickest steel, but I’ve never had a functional issue with a Camp Chef. I can’t say that for other brands.
I have been a pellet grill guy for a very long time, I have an original Traeger when it was made in the US before they shipped it to China. And I absolutely love my Traeger although I am cooking on old technology and I’m considering an upgrade, I had planned on getting the new Traeger, what are your thoughts on the new Traeger‘s versus this camp chef.
That being said, I thought this was an excellent video simple straightforward great information!
I really appreciate the feedback, Sean! On the Traeger comparison, I’m afraid I can’t really provide you with a lot of information there. I haven’t owned or used any of their newer stuff and therefore I really cannot provide you with a fair comparison. What I can say is that the unique smoke box feature of this cooker is not found on any other that I’m aware of. That’s the stand out thing for the most part. Everything from top to bottom is of good quality and engineering as well. In addition, I’ve owned a few of these from Camp Chef in recent years and never experienced any issues. I hope that helps…
I think Camp Chef just raised the bar with that smoke box!!!! I had a pellet grill in the past that had a way to burn wood chunks and it certainly added more smoke flavor!!! Great job Mike!!
Ps.. Could you please ad a compressor to the audio and set the limiter -4 db? Plus drop an adjustment layer on the timeline and bring the midtones up 8% but other than that the presentation was spot on!! ;) hahaha
Thank you very much, brother! Lol on the edits lol. That’s Al quite familiar lol.
@@EverydayBBQ Memories! ha ha
@@DeadBrokeBBQ exactly what I was thinking 😂
@@EverydayBBQ Ha ha
I love those grates, I hate the heavy cast iron ones, i avoided cleaning that particular grill.
Vermont castings, break your back to get them out lol
Does it do pretty well using it as a grill too?
Good review. I would have liked to have seen the grill cooking space measured. Also, the upper grates appear to have a lip between the two pieces which seems strange.
I keep the upper grades that way just to keep one out of the way so I have room to work on the lower great but they can operate on the same level and give you a ton of cooking space which is what I mentioned in the video. If you click on the link, I provided below for the cooker you will find all of the specs detailed and laid out to a T.
I have the Heavy D from Smoke Daddy which does something similar. My issue with it is that it increases the temps considerably. Even with the settings on 160 and vents fully open, I am unable to maintain temps below 250 while the wood is burning. Is the Woodwind able to keep low 200 temps with the extra wood/charcoal burning?
I never cooked below 220 but I had zero temperature issues. It worked like a ghost. Added the flavor and smoke unwanted without messing with the cooker or deducting from the convenience of a pellet smoker.
if you could only pick one out of a wood wind pro with a sidekick sear or the apex pellet/gas combo, which would it be?
Pro
I will sometimes burn some lump in a pan in the bottom right of my Woodwind 24. It does seem to add something.
For sure. The thing about this though is the clean smoke due to the high heat under the box from the fire pot. It makes a huge difference. Thank you very much for watching 🙏
Excellent review friend
Thank you so much 🙏
@@EverydayBBQ where would be a good place to purchase the 36?
@@lavatrathomas3472 I have a Camp Chef direct Affiliate Link in the video description if you’d like to support me. I am unaware of there being any better pricing anywhere. I believe the price will be the same everywhere cause it’s a new cooker. I could be wrong but I haven’t heard of any.

Does the cover you show accommodate a smoke stack? I only show the one that looks to be for not Pro versions on Camp Chef website.
Yes, the one I have does have a spot for it. It just lays down toward the back cause this cooker doesn’t have it.
The new Camp Chef with log access. Is it innovative or hype?
Good video. Something I cant seem to find anywhere online are the dimensions of grill? I assume its 36x ?
It has to be on the product page I have linked in the description
I love Camp Chef products- have the griddle and pizza oven, but the hinges on the woodwind pro look cheap. Over time they look like they will rust out on the cover. Can you give us your opinion on the hinge quality? About to buy that smoker.
They have performed fine for me.
Thanks for your reply! Is there a front shelf for this one?
They were working on it last I heard.
Do you recommend the woodwind or the apex? Can the woodwind still grill and sear? My wife and I are really torn between the two and don't know which to pick.
The WW Pro will give you better overall smoke flavor and versatility because of the smoke box. It can also sear with the sidekick and grill box add on. The Apex is built better, holds more even temperatures and has additional features.
