    It's supposed to be "shocking" when you hear that line about Lucifer introducing himself. "He" says thru the whole song, that he isn't going to reveal himself until she falls completely in love with him. Then it's too late. This song is meant as a warning. At least that's how I take it.
    This song is beautifully crafted.

      @NatureBoy210 If you're talking about Helter Skelter and Summer time blues, then you're right.
      I like to think of it this way, Helter Skelter and Summer time blues are the baby kicking it's mom's womb. Black Sabbath is when the baby is born.
      The baby here is Heavy Metal.

    • @sandipbiswas766
      @sandipbiswas766 4 года назад +3

      @NatureBoy210 Oh. That's a matter of personal preference really.
      I love both depending on my mood. If I feel that I have to listen to something with a doomy or stoner sound with lyrics focussing on the reality of what's going on in the world, and get lost in the grove, Sabbath is my option.
      If I want something energetic and about dragons, monsters etc with short single or double riff songs, I prefer Iron Maiden.

    • @sandipbiswas766
      @sandipbiswas766 4 года назад +1

      @NatureBoy210 None, but I hope you get my point, it's more like a really exciting fairy tale with an addicting groove.
      I told about dragons because a lot of the power metal bands talk about them, and are heavily inspired by the lyrics and sound of Maiden.

    Don't read too much into the "evil" side of it. The point of the song, as I see it, is to show that even Lucifer himself is not immune to the power of love. Butler, who wrote the song, once said that it's about the power of love making the devil give up evil and become good to win the heart of the woman he loved.
    Oh, and "NIB" has absolutely nothing to do with the lyrics of the song. They couldn't think of a title, but while writing the song, one of the band members (I think it was Iomi) was making fun of another's beard (I think it was Ward), which was a style known as a "nib", so they called the song NIB.

    Ozzy was stoned and looking at drummer Bill Ward's beard. He said he looked like a "pen nib" so they ended up calling the song NIB. When the record came out, someone from the record company decided to add the little period dots between the letters, so it became N.I.B. It doesn't really stand for anything, but fans had speculated over the years with various theories. In the 90's there was a tribute to Black Sabbath album that came out featuring a bunch of popular metal bands all doing covers of Black Sabbath songs. They named the album "Nativity In Black" as a nod to one of the more popular fan theories. I highly recommend checking out that album by the way.

    Holy Moly!!! This song/songs-“Bassically/NIB” is how I learned how to play bass. In my late 20’s I joined a funk group playing bass (I’m primarily a guitarist) and all I did was play Geezer type lines, and it sounded great!!! Eventually I learned real (jazz based) funk lines, but I still always had that “core” Sabbath thing going on.
    As for the lyrics, remember, they were flirting with occult imagery from the earliest days. They weren’t endorsing satanism, as it were. In fact “Lord of this World”, “After Forever”, “Children of the Grave”, and “Into the Void”, from the album “Master of Reality” could be viewed as the first Christian metal tunes... Drummer Bill Ward’s nickname was “nib” because his beard was pointed like the nib of a fountain pen. They didn’t have a name for the song so they called it “N.I.B”. Some people say it stands for “Nativity in Black”, but Bill has debunked that assertion.

      Love Uriah Heep! Always looked at Stealin' and Easy Living as "pay the bills" type of songs. Geared for radio consumption. Nothing wrong with that, just not very representative of what UH was capable of. Songs like Bird of Prey, The Wizard, July Morning, Look at Yourself and Sweet Lorraine were more in line with what they were all about. A hard side with a dose of prog.

    When the blues band Earth came out of their rehearsals one day they saw at the cinema across the street, people lined up to see Rosemary's baby. Legend goes they spoke amongst themselves and figured if people were paying $ to get scared why not try it with the music? Nativity In Black is one of my favorite all-time metal songs. Glad you enjoyed it brother! Trippy how it sounds like a rhythm heavy blues jam. Where the singer is trying to seduce his love. Promising the moon and the stars. Then it's revealed to be Lou himself doing the wooing! 🤘🏽🇺🇸🤘🏽

    The reason the bass solo fades out is that it's actually a separate track called 'Bassically'. Most people think it's an intro, but it's a separate track. The song N.I.B. is pretty much a warning about making a so-called 'deal with the devil' in exchange for material possessions. He'll give you anything you want, but it comes at a price... N.I.B. was a play on drummer Bill Ward's nickname, 'Nibby' because of his beard's resemblance to a nib ,the writing tip of a calligraphy style pen . Fans took to calling it Nativity In Black, which may as well be the actual name these days. Don't be scared. it's just a song, the devil isn't gonna jump out of your speakers & grab you. LOL!

    Geezer is one of the most underrated bass players ever. I've seen him play this live and you can feel it in your internal organs

    All of Sabbath's references to Satan in their lyrics are used to show that all of us have good and evil inside of us, and it's up to us as to which one we feed. Snowblind needs to be on your list next. Peace and Love brother. 🤘

    Great reaction Jamel. It took me for a bit of surprise when Ozzy introduces himself as Lucifer for the first time too. I'm sure it's been said, but NIB stands for Nativity in Black, which make it even better, or creepier depending on your standpoint.

      N. I. B. is a play on Bill Ward's nickname. Which was something like "Nibster" or "Nibby." Because his beard resembled the nib of a creative writing utensil.

    These boys took The Blues to a whole different place... Jamal, I just noticed in the next queued video, "War Pigs" from several months ago, you are wearing a Cal Poly Pomona hoodie. My Alma Mater! Did you go there? Might this help explain why you are among the coolest and most eclectic reactors on YT? 😎

    It's a story told from Lucifer's point of view. How he fell in love with a mortal woman.

    Parents across the US and the world hated their music, several of my friends weren't even allowed to have it. But we wore those 8-tracks out in our cars. "Fairies with Boots" would be worth a listen. It's a trip.
