Hi My name is Phil I fired this locomotive in my 50 years on the footplate.I started at Edgeley shed in 1961 we had a locomotive with the number that was 44781 I finished my out at Longsight in 2011 working for cross country.Regards Phil.
A very good series of shots of 44871. I videoed the train climbing to Dainton summit and the Class 47 was certainly working very hard. Unless the ghost of Andre Chapleon had been working on the Black 5 there is absolutely no way it could have climbed either Dainton or Hermerdon with nine coaches PLUS a Class 47 without a major input from the diesel. The loco was certainly being worked very hard and it was a good finale to the summer steam specials.
Yes, she put up a good Gareth . As you say the diesel was giving some assitancw on Hemerdon as expected . Remarkable loco this one ,cconsidering all the work she doing .

Thanks very much for posting . Some lovely clips theres
That's why I love the black 5s amazing locos
Certainly sounded as if the 47 wasn't giving any assistance worthy of the name at Hemerdon, it was absolutely flying up there!
Looking and sounding great!
44871 put on a show today! Saw her on both outbound and return on the Dawlish seawall and didn’t fail to impress on either occasion.
Great display from a superb loco. Can't believe the state of the weed strewn track at Bodmin Road! Disgraceful from NR. JG.
Believe it, it’s like that all over NR track these days. You want to see Norwich station!!
