I loved what you said about the news and the difference between informed and bombarded. I was a news junky for the past four years and i found myself in a perpetual state of anxiety. After the election I decided that i would only watch the national news each night. I am much happier just being informed.
I love the no makeup!! It’s important for me to see regular people without filters and Hollywood-like glam to reorient myself to the real world and remind myself that my “imperfections” are normal. Also, I love that you’re showing people that it’s completely okay to be in public without makeup. I think if we see people we admire normalizing this, it makes it way easier for us to do that too!
I appreciate the owning of your natural self! I have been going gray since I was 30 and have also not dyed my hair since then either. I have stopped wearing makeup (7 years now) except maybe some mascara for special occasions. I actually got the courage to stop wearing makeup due to a coworker I had that never wore makeup at work; she was an unknowing role model for me to do the same and stop wearing makeup when I leave the house. It is so nice to embrace who I am and how I look and know that I'm incredibly happy with my choices and how I look as I age. I still don't look my age, even when compared to the people all dolled up! Congratulations on your journey and I can't wait to see what's next!
“I feel like I’m behind. And I can’t be behind … it’s only 2 January!” Jen quote of the day. And then, “There’s a benefit in being informed. There’s no benefit in being bombarded! You make me smile and remind me of sanity-enhancing steps I can take! Thank you!!!! Happy 2025 sweet lady!!!
Jen, loved this post! I went grey/white during Covid, and while it took me a bit of time to get used to it, I love it now! I really like your approach to your weekly vlogs, and sharing your wisdom is helpful to many of us in "middleaccence". See Chip Conley posts about growing and moving into the "modern elder" stage of life (50ish +)
I stopped coloring my hair 12/19. Right before Covid. Little did I know - I was ahead of a trend. :). Like you I kept my hair long and just let it grow. One of the benefits I didn’t realize but love is that my hair feels healthy again! Not dried straw. Anyway. Yours looks great. Keep on keeping on.
I quit dyeing my hair in 2016 and my hair was dark brown, reddish and gray. So I had my genius stylist mix up some wonderful concoction that kind of unified the color and it worked. I’m very happy with my grays and a very happy not paying for my hair color any more.😊
Yeah I chatted with my stylist and it's not a great option for me but honestly? I lIKE that it's so obvious and I can't really put my finger on why. Rebellion maybe? Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your vlogs Jen, you always help me feel motivated. I stopped highlighting my hair in Covid, and went from what I thought was a boring mousy brown, with highlights, to a pretty base light brown with my very own highlights! Who knew? I’m very much enjoying it & it saves me so much time & money, my gosh. Silver lining of Covid, as it were 😉 I’ve also grown my hair longer & I’m loving that too. I’d thought my face was too round for longer hair, now I’m just happily me. You look marvelous without makeup, another motivator!
I'm 100% here for the real. The real is where I am in my journey....asking myself all the questions...what do I want, where do I want to be, who do I want to be with, what do I want to be doing....this is the year of me choosing me first. I too am in a privileged position to do what I want. You'd think the answers to the questions would come easy. The answers are not coming easy for me for whatever reason so I just have to be kind and love myself through all of it.
Happy New Year Jen. I had highlights put in my hair regularly for about 35 years then when Covid happened they were due and when I could eventually get to my hairdresser they had obv started to grow out and my hair was various shades of brown and grey.so I decided to leave it for a while and see how it went and I’ve never had any highlights again now my hair is all totally natural and various shades of grey. The condition of my hair is my hair is better and everyone tells me the grey really suits me including my hairdresser. Xxx
I stopped coloring my hair in March 2020 when my salon was closed due to Covid. I had been a red head and I just grew out my natural now grey hair. My hair is down to the middle of my back, so after about a year and a half until it looked like I’d intentionally colored my ends. I love it. It was a beautiful journey. I’m so happy with it. My husband has told me not to ever color it again.
I love the advice you give!!!! Thank you! I'm not ready to go all grey yet. But it's great to know that one day I'll wake up and know it's time! I might be 99. But it will be in my timing!!❤
And heck, even then if you don't WANT to you don't! That's really the point! We get to decide. Not because of somebody elses beauty standards on our behalf but because of what WE feel comfortable with in our own skin.
@JoyfulLivingwithJenLefforge and p.s. I watched the vlog until the end and I too will be guarding my peace in 2025. I'm in control of what I take in and put out into the world. I'm putting out more joy!! Have a great New Year!
I just LOVE your dogs! They seem so sweet! I knew when it was time to stop coloring my hair. I did it gradually, though, going lighter and lighter until the dyed hair was close to my then natural color - white! It’s so wonderful not to have to deal with coloring my hair. You have really nice thick hair. I love that you are always striving to be a better you. It inspires me to want to do the same. You are a natural beauty - no need for makeup. You and Scott make such a lovely couple. Love you, Jen❣️
Hi Jen from a cold UK! Just I wanted to say that I gave up watching/reading the news a while ago. It was all so awful and I found it very difficult to live my life if that makes sense. Anyhoo, keep going with your grey journey. I’m also doing that although not sure I’m loving it right now! X
I love this first weekly vlog. Love the gray hair journey for you and your attitude toward this new year and personal growth. Taking really good care of ourselves is so easy to neglect and so hard (for some of us) to prioritize.
I'm so glad you went for the Diamond status and ejoyed the jaunt- I ❤️ Delta. I completely relate to what you said about feeling younger while healing from the parentification. I spent so much of my childhood being the adult and now, at 48, I feel so much more free. Thanks for the vlog, Jen!
I'm so excited you are showing your gray grow out! My gray "journey" from a similar shade of brown required highlights and a serious cut because I was significantly more gray than you, with a big white streak in the front. It was totally worth the wait. You'll be so excited when you chop off the last bit of dyed hair. Oh, and I had an asthma attack in a salon as the result of being seated next to someone getting a keratin treatment so you aren't alone in your reaction. That stuff is TOXIC!
Lip balm and clear mascara (to keep them all going the right direction) is my 2025 skin routine. Sure, for hearings and meetings streamed publicly I’ll do a full face but for home or regular work days? What you see is what you get.
Husband and I are off to Disney at the end of January. Thanks so much for recommending Transportation by Mike. So easy to deal with and now we're set to go.
I was reluctant to stop dyeing my hair and grow it out. The I had breast and cancer and chemo and lost all of it. Voila! When it grew back it was a fresh start.
Happy new year Jen! I’m taking on a journaling project for 2025 called One Little Word (Ali Edwards) and the word I’ve chosen for 2025 is “contentment”. A lot of what you just said about self care totally resonates!
My grandmother also had a shock of silver up front, and it seems I do, too - which frames either side of my face. While I only used to do only semi--permanent color and only twice a year, I stopped putting any color in my hair nearly 3 years ago, and I am so happy I did. At 69, I still don't have a mass of dreaded gray roots, but long silvery wisps that look more like highlights in my brown-reddish natural hair. I'm also fully embracing my curls that suddenly appeared after a really bad bout with covid (alpha) in early 2020.
Curls are WILD. My hair has gone in and out of curly multiple times - we are currently in a more wavy then curly phase but I feel like it changes all the time!
I am watching your video while texting with my sister who is in Barranquilla! She just spent a week hiking in Santa Marta ( I think) Happy New Year! May you enjoy the adventures of your Diamond 2025!
I hit Delta Diamond this year for the first time as well!!! I'm excited, soooo I totally get it. I love that you're doing the 24-hour travel with Scott this year. Those will be fabulous memories.
Great vlog! Love your walking chats. You always say something so funny or clever off the top of your head. The way I’ve observed gray hair in myself is I look like a healthy, energetic, older version with gray, while the dyed hair made me look like a struggling, tired, younger version of myself. Congrats on diamond club! Happy new year 🎆
I had planned to go silver when I turned 70. Made it to 68 when I said ENOUGH and stopped. It was the BEST decision and I get way more compliments on my hair than I ever did when I was coloring it. I have short hair so it was a faster process for me.
I stopped dying my hair during Covid. I found freedom from dyes and love that my grays are different shades. Highlights that I waited decades for and they’re free? Who knew?
Holly how fun is that? YES I am actually quite surprised at all the color variation in my hair, too - it's a fun adventure! (a gift with purchase if you will LOL)
Same- I stopped during Covid and then just kept going. I always had a white stripe in the front since my twenties. Wasn’t in style then. Now, it’s a money piece. 😂 It took three years to grow it fully out since I have long hair. I chopped it a few times and now it’s a length I like. I like it most of the time. The grey was just a battle I couldn’t win. Better to embrace it.
Like others, I decided to go gray during COVID. Best decision ever! It took me about two years. Toward the end I was ready for the process to be done, so I had a few inches cut and some layering done. I’m amazed when I part it differently how different the gray areas are. It’s a happy surprise. I do feel like I’ve changed my wardrobe and makeup a little to liven up my appearance. That’s not a bad thing either. Happy New Year!
I stopped colouring my hair the year before I retired. It’s now various shades of grey and I’m happy with that. Apparently according to my hairdresser it’s quite common for the back of your hair to stay darker than the front, at least for a while. For me that’s continuing but each person is different.
Your Friday face is GLOWING. ✨ (PS I found your channel through Adam Hattan like many others have said. I feel like your my wise, entertaining auntie. 😄)
I never forget my hairstylist saying, you know you are starting to get grey😲😅 I told her its ok, I'm ready for the change👍🏻😊 Your hair will look just beautiful 😊 Thanks for sharing your journey 🤗♥️😃
I do have some grey and never colour my hair, but 12 years ago I did an arctic challenge and the temples of my hair actually snapped off! They grew back white!!! So I call them my Cruella streaks 😂
I quit coloring my hair during covid. Didn't think id ever do that, but once it was grown out, i liked the color. I also cut my hair short to cut off all the leftover color. And I've never had it that short. Didn't even tell hubby i was cutting it, because i didn't want someone to talk me out of. Wanted to do it for me. And i have enjoyed it. But you're right..u know when its time.
Oh my word, I’ve been to Cartagena - it was a stop on a Disney Panama Canal cruise. This brought back wonderful memories, and it’s fun to see the holiday decorations. Thank you :)!
Happy New Year, Jen! At 42 my tiny grey streak I was born with has multiplied and spread quite a bit. My twins call my greys, my “sparkle hair” and that is what they will forever be called, never to be covered because who doesn’t need a little sparkle in their life???
It's great your growing out your hair, and it's looking good. I stopped coloring mine several years ago and was hoping salt and pepper and it's more dirty blonde with gray.
Gail I would like to order that dirty blonde is not a color and your hair is gorgeous and so are you and I think the words you were looking for were “ash blonde with platinum highlights”🥰
For so many reasons, this video needs to go in the “best of” archives. Avoiding media, going grey etc. btw, you’ve got a great salt and pepper look coming in, especially when you’re in front of a light. And, the part about hovering over the bus stop……omg, I’m laughing so hard! I’m totally stealing it. Lolol. So, do you have matching glasses/sunglasses? Or are they transitions?
We always say when traveling…if it all works out then it’s meant to be…if it all goes pareshaped then it’s telling you to thing again!! Oh Scooby looks so happy…bless him It’s so sad when the decorations come down but the rooms look so big…. I love the way your hair is progressing…my hair is getting very silver..I’m a natural strawberry blonde..ironically I’m very allergic to strawberries and carry an epi pen! 😂😂 Each time my stylist cuts it she says “ooh more silver shall we do something about that…”and I say “NO! “ I’m not wasting my money on something that’s going to happen sooner or later…. I’m a bit behind on your videos catching up today….that’s great for me….👍🇬🇧 Ps your neighbourhood looks super swish…
Hi Jen, First time sending you a comment, I found your channel through Adam Hatton, and just felt you were such a fun genuine, down to earth lady that I subscribed to your channel. I so enjoy all of your content, home and travel, I find them very uplifting, funny and very down to earth, by always keeping it real, things and feelings that most of us can relate to. Thanks again for sharing with us all. 😊 Best wishes from Bonnie Scotland. ❤
@traceyhill7784 Tracey, my daughter and son in law, from Glasgow, live in Kent, Ashford, to be exact. We love visiting, it's so gorgeous. We live in Atlanta in Georgia.
@kimcunningham2662 it's a small world. We are Chatham so about 45mins away. We started watching Jen after spotting her on the Disney vlogs by Adam Hatton 😁
Go for it. I had red hair and started going gray at very young age. I look back at pictures of the colored hair me and it doesn't look natural. I'm 64 now and Covid stopped me from very expensive coloring. Joan
Covid was my trigger but as my hair grows slowly it took 18 months .when i did go to the hairdresser's.she reassured me that my new colour was not dull so no more dieing
We can yes. We can fly for a small fee stand by or use a program where we get a discount but have confirmed seats. None of those were available for this flight though and when I use them they don’t count towards my status
Question for when I start turning grey. Could you dye your hair grey to start blending it? Or would you end up having to dye your hair like way too often?
I am so looking forward to your weekly vlogs,I love your intelligent rambling!Lol!Watching you is just like having coffee with a friend & discussing everything.I think you embracing your gray hair is totally liberating,I know it was for me,my hair was very short when I let it grow in,so did not take very long….I love my Artic Blonde shiny white hair & am glad I made that decision in my 50’s.Keep being you!❤️🇨🇦
I stopped coloring my hair when I was 40, 39 years ago. My stylist won't let me try to color for a short time, she loves my grey/white hair. I love it also. It does not age you

I loved what you said about the news and the difference between informed and bombarded.
I was a news junky for the past four years and i found myself in a perpetual state of anxiety.
After the election I decided that i would only watch the national news each night.
I am much happier just being informed.
This exactly. I think we all have different levels of tolerance but what I was doing before was NOT working for me!

Oh, thank you, Anna!!!!
I am just sitting getting grey blending done watching this. I am so excited to embrace my grey. I stopped dying 4 months ago.
My MIL is growing hers out. I’m loving this! Just love your videos. Thanks for sharing :)

YES my "virgin hair" thats coming in is so healthy and soft! Not what I was expecting at all.
I quit dyeing my hair in 2016 and my hair was dark brown, reddish and gray. So I had my genius stylist mix up some wonderful concoction that kind of unified the color and it worked. I’m very happy with my grays and a very happy not paying for my hair color any more.😊

Amy that's so well stated!!!! Yes to all of that!
I stopped coloring my hair now it’s white as snow. Girl I’m rocking it.
All of our content speaks to me today!! Thank you for sharing.
Oh I’m so glad!
Watching from the UK on Sunday afternoon, in the bath tub with a glass of wine 😊
I fully approve of this behavior!
Loved every minute ❤❤
Oh I love that thank you!
Your the best!!!!!

Sally, you're so kind! Thank you!
You are really helping me learn how to set boundaries not only between me and others but also with myself. Thanks!
Wow that's an amazing thing to read. Thank you for sharing that with me, Lisa!
Happy New Year Jen! Great 1st vlog of the year! Let's make 2025 the most magical year yet!
You are going to look great with your natural hair color, I’m excited for you!
Thank you!! It's going to take at least another full year probably longer but I'm loving the process!
Love your weekly vlogs. Always real and always inspiring. Happy New Year!
I did it 4 years ago NO regrets and I love it.
Because we were raised to believe taking care of ourselves is SELFISH. It's hard for me to let go of that, too.
Jill honestly? I did not even know this kind of freedom (emotionally) was an option until my mid to late 40’s. It’s so amazing isn’t it??
Happiest of new years to you, Jen. I look forward to enjoying all of the rides with you this year ❤❤❤
Thank you! That's so kind!

Oh lovely! We will be there around that time so if you see somebody that looks like me it's probably me!
Love that grey streak! I have my grandfather’s if I’m parted properly and I love it
I love mine, too!
Love this weekly blog!❤️
I was reluctant to stop dyeing my hair and grow it out. The I had breast and cancer and chemo and lost all
of it. Voila! When it grew back it was a fresh start.
I'm so glad you're here to tell me about it:).

Oh Scooby looks so happy…bless him
It’s so sad when the decorations come down but the rooms look so big….
I love the way your hair is progressing…my hair is getting very silver..I’m a natural strawberry blonde..ironically I’m very allergic to strawberries and carry an epi pen! 😂😂
Each time my stylist cuts it she says “ooh more silver shall we do something about that…”and I say “NO! “
I’m not wasting my money on something that’s going to happen sooner or later….
I’m a bit behind on your videos catching up today….that’s great for me….👍🇬🇧
Ps your neighbourhood looks super swish…
We ADORE our neighborhood and our neighbors! We were very lucky to have found it. Hope your new year is off to a good start!
@ Yes thanks to you keeping me on track it is so far….👍🇬🇧

"Headlines don't sell papes. Newsies sell papes." - Jack Kelly - Happy 2025, Jen!
SO GOOD.
I stopped coloring my hair a few years ago and I have a strong blaze of white in the front which I love.
So fun! Makes me feel very bad ass.
Go for it. I had red hair and started going gray at very young age. I look back at pictures of the colored hair me and it doesn't look natural. I'm 64 now and Covid stopped me from very expensive coloring. Joan
I look at pictures of myself even from a year ago and it just doesn't look right to me anymore! I so understand this!
Extra feasty ?!! Perfectly describes my holiday season!!
I went to Cartagena quite a few years ago. Loved it!
I hope to go back very soon!
Just love your vlogs so so much ❤️ I cannot tell you how much they help me❤️ xxxxxxxx ps must look into Mel Robbins new book - love her xx
I love to hear that thank you!! And yes I can’t wait to read it!
Covid was my trigger but as my hair grows slowly it took 18 months .when i did go to the hairdresser's.she reassured me that my new colour was not dull so no more dieing
Im purchasing that book as well. I love her too.
I have that and Ina Garten new memoir on my list!
I stopped coloring my hair during COVID. It’s now all white and I’m OK with it! I’m 68 so I guess it’s time!
(Jane) No Make-up Fridays, Yes!! I much prefer watching an authentic self.
Well the good news is I am always authentic I just sometimes wear makeup;).
Curious, do you get discounted firm seats on flights? My husband works for airline in New Zealand and we do.
Talk to your colorist but in my case it wasn’t a good option. Kind of depends on the kind of hair you have and your color. Definitely worth asking!
I am so looking forward to your weekly vlogs,I love your intelligent rambling!Lol!Watching you is just like having coffee with a friend & discussing everything.I think you embracing your gray hair is totally liberating,I know it was for me,my hair was very short when I let it grow in,so did not take very long….I love my Artic Blonde shiny white hair & am glad I made that decision in my 50’s.Keep being you!❤️🇨🇦
Have you considered going shorter with your hair to “hasten” the process to gray?
Nope! I love my long hair and I'm happy for it to take as long as it takes. I do get it trimmed every 8 weeks or so.
😊❤😊
Scooby ❤️
When I tell you washing that earless bear has made his week 🤣
I saw that Sunday morning! I love to watch that every Sunday and her piece was so good!!
Right? Such an important message!
I stopped coloring my hair when I was 40, 39 years ago. My stylist won't let me try to color for a short time, she loves my grey/white hair. I love it also. It does not age you
When I look at pictures of myself with my hair colored it now looks so odd to me! Thank you for the encouragement!
