Also never thought too much about these types of players and their contracts, kinda faded into the back of my mind when I learned what they make individually. But when you start listing them all off and seeing how many of these bad contracts there are? Goddamn. Great vid
The main reason why role players make more money now is simply because they play more minutes than they used to back when Derek Fisher played. Twenty years ago, no one in the top 50 in minutes played averaged less than 35 per game. Now, no one outside the top 25 averages that much. Load management means someone needs to pick up the slack.

The reason roleplayers are more valuable is because we have moved to a more analytics-centric league and because of NBA economics. Allow me to explain: 1. Star player salaries skyrocketed through the roof, right when the NBA cracked down with rules for going into the luxury tax. This means that star players are now more expensive not just in terms of pure money, but also in terms of opportunity cost. Is that $45 million you pay for a superstar really worth more than getting 3 specialized roleplayers at $15 million each? 2. Analytics tell us that NBA success is still heavily predicated on a high-powered offense with a decent defense. If a guy who shoots 38% from beyond and plays solid defense costs $15 million, then it's probably better to get three guys that can do that than get one superstar who shoots 40% from beyond and plays slight better defense. This is actually similar to what happened in the NFL prior to the rise of the Patriots' dynasty. What Belichick really did better than anyone else was understand the economics of the NFL. We always talk about how the Patriots only once employed a big-name wideout in the Brady-era. That's because Belichick realized that the economics of paying a hefty percentage of cap space for a single star wideout wasn't nearly as effective as paying for four lesser wideouts that can give more versatility and more redundancy in the case of injury.

My thing about Jimmy Butler is that he could have won a title in miami. But they never updated the roster, they literatly have the exact same roster from there 2020 bubble year. Bro that is insane, while every other team is getting better, what did you expect him to do.
Do it with PC or selected members from the cast
Yo, do the bad contract draft. That shit sounds ridiculous and hilarious.
Also never thought too much about these types of players and their contracts, kinda faded into the back of my mind when I learned what they make individually. But when you start listing them all off and seeing how many of these bad contracts there are? Goddamn. Great vid
Good video. Bad contract draft sounds good
The disrespect to Jimmy Butler is crazy
The main reason why role players make more money now is simply because they play more minutes than they used to back when Derek Fisher played. Twenty years ago, no one in the top 50 in minutes played averaged less than 35 per game. Now, no one outside the top 25 averages that much.
Load management means someone needs to pick up the slack.
I think it's better described as "in the middle" being stars and franchise players as superstars.
6:28 random knicks visual when talking about the rest of the league taking after the Boston Celtics 😂 I laugh knowing that the Knicks are going to try that but aren't going to succeed because of the guy in the shot 👀🤷🏾♂️
BI on decent contract would literally make dynasty in Dallas. Nobody is stopping them. Pj would be the bacup 4 and starting line up would be Luka, Kai, Klay, BI, Derek lively. Bench would be dinwiddie, Quentin grimes, Naji marshal, PJ, Gafford 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯 that’d be the deepest team in the league with 2 legit starting 5s
Bro uploaded right when I had to go to class
This video aged like milk with the KAT and Randle trade lol
Good Sh*t - Informative Video based on Factz/Examples with Dope Graphics.
Bad Contract Draft is a great idea.
Maybe Porzingis is an example of a mid level star that is valuable in a specific role on a specific team, and the video did mention the Celtics
The reason roleplayers are more valuable is because we have moved to a more analytics-centric league and because of NBA economics. Allow me to explain:
That's because Belichick realized that the economics of paying a hefty percentage of cap space for a single star wideout wasn't nearly as effective as paying for four lesser wideouts that can give more versatility and more redundancy in the case of injury.
forget doing the collab video on the bad contract draft do it yourself cause i wanna watch it now
Randle with Edwards and Gobert
With the new CBA, teams are hesitant to pay anyone, but especially one way players. Gonna be an interesting deadline.
don’t throw ju in here , us real knick fans know we need him and value him
Low post its a good day🙏🏽
I really appreciate your capacity to break down concepts in plain, straight-forward manner #BLOVIATION FREE
for the collab idea, he should go on the shoot around podcast with alex hoops n rusty buckets
Do the bad contract draft
Would the contract draft be current or all-time? Like can you take 2017 timofey mozgov or does it have to be this past season
That collab would be lit
Butler is a tier above all these guys but the issue is that he's always injured so his availability is always shit.
Randle contract isn’t a bad contract 😂
The only Low Post now
First time I’ve ever seen someone rocking Druski merch😂🔥
Did you make this video after the KAT Trade lol
Wow. You dont think Butler is a star in this league ? Was 1 injured playoff all it took to put him in the tier of Julius Randle? I think he is becoming super underrated and unappreciated
Jimmy Butler is 35
@jonathansykes4986 he is still more valuable than Randle or Lavine. 1 injured playoff run shouldn't discredit his entire run with miami .
@@joshuacooper319 he's also unmanageable. A thing people seem to forget whenever considering his value: he has a high value on the floor, but he's not compatible with all kind of teams/coaches/GMs, and that put him at risk not to find someone putting th right price, decreasing his value. It's a shame, but this is where it's at.
Facts! Well said man.
The problem is some players are getting way too much money and don't want to pay others
We've seen role players get paid insanely well.
You my friend, know absolute ball.
Fire idea creative hoop content
The spike in the ‘17 salary cap paid for KD to play for the warriors.
Do that contract build content
That tobi contract still haunts me
That contract and CBA limit got people acting different lol
The bad team contract thing would be funny, but whoever picks Ben Simmons would automatically be the winner lol
Love the Spurs hat❤
Hell yea do that bad contract draft
a bad contract draft sounds like amazing content
What that Random clip of Jalen Brunson for like 1 second 😭
Do bad contracts draft it be fun
I’d love to see a bad contract draft. If you can get Kenny to hop in it that would be dope
Bad contract draft is already done yearly by bill simmons and Russo so if anything you should try to get on one of his episodes
Philly fan not putting PG on that list of bad contracts is interesting. We'll see how the season unfolds.
They are just too high of a risk assets for a lot of teams to bet on. It's that simple.
Fringe allstars/floor raisers (not ceiling) will need to adjust their own expectations which sucks for them bc im not gonna side with billionaire team owners but the reality is jimmy buckets wont get the money he thinks he deserves from any team bc they would be jeopardizing their own future if they do
Bad contract draft would be fun.....and hilarious. Do it Low!
Also, yes. Do the bad draft thing. 👍🏾
You’re crazy as a Knicks fan we def want Randle, idk why everyone hates on him
Yeah... about that...👀
