I follow a few Homesteading chennels for differing reasons or aspects they concentrate on. This channel has absolutely ticked so many boxes. So lets run through them in no particular order of preference (maybe): No promotional adverts. No rubbish artificial commentary. No Click Bait, No repetative content, it shows the process and that's it. No BS. Honest graft. Practical. Well executed skills and outcomes.A real joy to watch the family striving for the outcome, comfort and security they want. Only problem!!!! Not enough subscribers (and I am not related or involved in any way with the channel). All the best from the UK.
Watched your video late this morning and just realized I hadn't left you a comment. Unusual for me to even watch it this late. Shea did a beautiful job on the painting of the wall inside. The extra insulation will be very welcomed in the winter and balance it out throughout the year. Enjoy watching the way you meticulously working with the products you use to finish the tasks. Great job.
Another great video content. You and your wife are doing such remarkable work together, something that you’ll both be able to take such pride in. Look forward to next week.
Super well insulated! 150mm outside and I don't know if there is any inside, of course not on the walls where the wooden beams are kept visible. But keeping the thickness inside below 30% of the total thickness is the best to prevent condensation inside the wood of moisture coming from inside the house.
The methods used here seem quite modern, the expanding plastic sealing at the bottom of the logs, there was no air gap between the insulation and the log and a vapour barrier on top Is this advisable in such with such organic matter? I have a few doubts about it. Here in Finland, and from the log building advice I have picked up from a course I did in Latvia, it seems one must always avoid the use of plastic or materials which will block airflow, of course rockwool seems fine, but a plastic vapour barrier and no airgaps, and using non-organic chinking at the bottom... It may compromise the long-term life of such a house.
there shouldn't be any mice that get in, under the door jam is all and I'm sure that will be taken care of! when you heat it with wood it will be so airtight that you'll need a vent outside to draw air in. should be as snug as 3 little bears in a rug! great job you guys!
Where did you learn all these skills and techniques? Are you a builder? Self-taught? Especially the installation of vapour and moisture barriers. Are you following building regulations or codes and will it have to pass an inspection? Very interesting
Thank you very much! I was taught to always use both the screw and nail because screw tightens it and nail keeps it in place and not letting the screw snap when and the wood moves 😁
Quadruple insulation for the house. double indside, double outside. Is it THAT cold where you live or are you making this cabin a sauna? 😆😅 either way, great work, man! 👍
Hi. I always enjoy watching Your Videos, and see Your Work grow 😀 And may I ask: Is Your Insulation breathable enough, so that the Wood underneath will not rott due to Moist or get Woodworms etc.?
Dude, those are some serious R values for insulation, in and out...should be close to a passive home for heating and cooling...Well done! Don't know why you even need a fireplace? For ambience? Cheers man!
@@homesteadingdays thanks for the quick answer, l live in Germany and we use a lot of the same matèrials. Your work is ajoy to watch keep up the Good work

So ist es richtig, Rockwoll ohne Handschuhe und ohne atemschutz.

I worked as a builder in scandinavia plus always liked this kind of stuff 😁 so now just doing what I know 😁
Great video again. One question, Why did you nail and screw the spacer boards for the insulation install?
Thank you very much! I was taught to always use both the screw and nail because screw tightens it and nail keeps it in place and not letting the screw snap when and the wood moves 😁

Thank you! Its 20cm for the roof. And only 15cm for the walls plus 15cm thick logs. More insulation less logs to burn 😁

Такие желоба снизу не лучшая идея, стартовая планка должна быть перфорированная, чтобы не собиралась влага и не загнивало
Fasade will be ventilated. 😁
