I am the only guy in my university to use this phone. Almost everyone uses 5S and GS4. If I just start taking some snaps, this thing is a HEAD TURNER. I become the attention gatherer and within my first few weeks in my university, I am famous.
Wish they made atleast 4 more different colors. But tbh Im gonna go with the same that You have.... Might match my vette gs :). Thanks for the info mate :)
Razor4ever look my friend, if you are strong enough to go with the windows, then buy it. I am using it and I am comfortable in front of the iphone and Samsung people. If you can handle the negative comments "THOSE" people will be throwing at you, then only buy it. And happy shooting.
I'm watching this review in 2017 just because i loved my lumia 1020 so much but sadly that phone died last december. This review is all about refreshing my memories with lumia 1020. I rarely fall in love with anything but lumia 1020 is one of those few things.
Its 2015 November. My friend has purchased galaxy S6 and still its camera doesn't even come close to my Lumia 1020. Edit 2017: I am using an android phone for daily use as lumia 1020 started lagging. But then, did a hard reset and it's back to normal again. Still using it for camera and now have printed poster size films of images captured from it.
Damn, I really like this dude. NO, not in that way XD Really, I scour tech sites and RUclips channels all the time, and this guy is, alongside MKBHD, are my favorite reviewers. Never letting his "feeling", or "bias" or any number of other factor pour into his review, assessments... I really wish others would understand that THAT's what gives them a good reputation with us, consumers of their work, and not their own personal opinions, which mean very little to us, since we have our own anyway.
Excellent idea to re-review this phone. You were very enlightening. I just ordered my Nokia Lumia 1020. I hope I do enjoy it. Thank you for your help in advance :D
just bought my lumia 1020 a week ago and it's camera is great and with windows phone 8.1 it is a little bit more future proof with all it's new funtions
I've been unsure of my initial investment in this product 6 months ago, but I'm still using it now - early 2015. Even though my friends and colleagues are sporting top of the line devices such as the S5 and iPhone 5s/6 I'm still unable to find some particular application, mandatory for smartphones, which the 1020 can't run properly. Also, when the sun goes down and we visit some local pubs, bars or even discos all other phones quickly find their way into bags or pockets for the night. Not my 1020, I'm the only guy people want shooting photos and later working on them, if needed, for everyone to enjoy. Feels great how this device and its strengths get recognized by iOS and Android users alike, despite being somewhat on the aging side of this quickly developing industry.
Keep up the great reviews. I have to say that Michael Fischer in my opinion is by far the best and most unbiased reviewer I ever seen. Other reviewers should learn from him. And BTW I'm loving my 1020. Best piece of tech I ever owned
After i have had my 1020 for over 3months i am in love with it. I never have to take a cemera on hoilidays, it is fast and gets the task done , there is a heap of apps, not a big range but the range the windows 8 platfrom offers are the bestly made apps man just get it, i get updates every 2 months for it , and mirosoft does not wanna risk windows 8 reptation so they we keep this phone running nice to keep you on windows 8
The best thing about owning the amazing Lumia 1020 is that it actually gs better with age! Since owning it, i have been gifted with major updates to almost all of it's operations, the battery however, is about average (20-30 hours depending on usage)
Now that Nokia's making phones running Android... Maybe we can all hope for THE next '1020'? If that happens, it will be THE BEST (this time for sure) camera phone in the world: 41 MP, fast processor and a MODERN AND USABLE OS. Even though Nokia 808 and Lumia 1020 were also called 'the best cameras' - it was a torture to use them. The first was released on an already dead OS and the second with it's Windows Phone had absolutely NO apps (apps from Google, for instance). It's a dream now that Nokia would release the next big camera...
Rereviewing is a great idea! I was looking forward for a deeper test on Nokia's 1020! And also would you mind testing the way the office platform behaves in 2520 or even how the respective Apple platform behaves in iPadAir?
I've owned the 1020 for around eight months - great review. The camera is just amazing, the gps app is pretty good, the other stuff is ok, browser, music apps, os is better than any previous Nokia OS and the best MS phone OS so far IMO. BUT - I also own a Nokia N8 - and I can connect that to a TV using an HDMI cable and play back an avi file stored on a connected USB stick, or plug in a micro SD. And the N8 is basically a chunk of metal.
Your reviews are the best mate! few can explain WP for more than a minute without discouraging users from it. Besides, I think the 1020 will become one of the legacy devices of Nokia in coming years. Hoping to see purer views with better battery from Nokia :)
Is the Nokia 1020 still the King of smartphone cameras? I'm still using my 1020 and was hoping for a 1030 to be released but apparently that isn't going to happen.
The 1020 is definitely a great smartphone. And the recently news that all Windows Phones handsets will be upgrade to the 8.1 version of the OS give more live to that monster(in the good way of course).
10 years after I came out I’m still in love with this phone I’m an amateur photographer, I prefer to shoot with my 1020 instead of my more expensive glass (Plannar Zeiss T F1.4 - Leica Summilux 25mm f1.4) I often do street/portrait photography, but this lumia 1020 works better in a Landscape scenario The sensor size on the 1020 is just perfect, the amount of DOF is cinematic, the colors have way too much character, the xenon flash it’s amazing for taking “aesthetic/vintage” feel photos, the RAW images are super flexible using Lightroom, I define it’s overall performance outstanding. It’s the perfect point and shoot even in 2024, it’s hard for me to understand how a camera this level is so cheap
We finally got the Lumia Black update last night here in Norway- so far I was loving the phone but MAN, its going to take a lot to change this out for anything else. I think a 5" phone with the 1020 camera and 1520 specs (international version, not AT&T) would do the trick! Until then, not swapping it for anything else :D
I've been on android for the longest of time, then my mom got this for my dad just yesterday. I was blown away! This smartphone retailed at Php21000 and was worth every peso my mom spent on it! The camera is just awesome. :) While the windows app market isn't as appealing as android's, the phone in itself is a steal given the capabilities it provides any normal user. :)
Hello, I have a question an dI hope you can answer it! I updated my Lumia 1020 to the black update, I did get the new notifications in the Glance screen but I did not get the pedometer. Did your Lumia 1020 got the pedometer on the Glance screen?
Wish to see more about 1020, I like taking pictures n videos hope this is the best out there in market at this price range, any information about Sony xperia z1 compact
Its basically a Z1 with a smaller screen (and 720p res). As for the camera, it has the exact cam as the Z1, which is not as good as the Nokia's. Note 3 user here, so I not rooting for anyone in particular, I just had the chance to compare the Z1 and 1020.
I am thinking about getting this phone. Do you know if it will be able to update when windows 8.1 comes out? My current android phone has no update capability, and I am still on gingerbread.
Lumia 1020 vs. Nexus 5 vs. HTC One vs. Moto X. These are my current choices for an upgrade as they're the the only ones my budget can handle. Which would you suggest?
My Lumia 920 "was" the absolute phone I have ever owned, but unfortunately for a reason unknown to me, it fried internally and died. I had, since it's inception, wanted a 1020 for it's camera and purchased a refurbished model a couple of days ago so my new adventure is ON. Couple of questions, 1: do you recommend the use of the battery case to help with the performance of the units internal battery? 2: Is there a wireless charger for the 1020 that doesn't require the back cover for charging purposes? Thanks for the review and I'll be sure to return with an update on my experience with this gem.
Great review, thanks for the upload! Windows needs a notification center. Add that in addition to bbm and Google apps, yes I know, a long way off, and I might be able to live with windows. But until then, it's android for me
just wondering, how on earth can ANY operating system feel 'stagnant' next to ios????? android.... maybe. but IOS? the king of boredom. to clear things up with the camera (because I have a 1020), if there are situations where the 1020 struggles, ANY other smartphone will fall on its face harder.
He meant since the 1020 was launched it feels stagnant, with the aestheic changes with iOS 7 . overall yes i would rather use a prepaid phone rather than an iphone
I have a Nexus 4 and a iPhone 5C, and yeah, iOS7 is snoretastic, and despite the updates still really clunky compared to Kitkat, but after having a good play with my sister in laws Nokia 625, Windows Phone 8 has it beat hands down in the dull competition - I can see why minimalists like it, and its definitely easy to use (though the lack of a notification centre is a deal breaker for me), but it was way too minimal for me as a gadget freak, within about 5 minutes I was out of stuff to muck around with.
Agreed i myself have a moto g, but just over that short period of time since the launch iOS has atleast changed aesthetically. Dont get me wrong i love how windows 8 looks, but it needs a better ui to be able to be used in the mobile format, like how the 1520 uses a large screen effectively. I use it on the xbox one personally, windows phone just needs a refresh like any other platform, and it is the last major os to do so.
I use a Note 3 myself, and been using Android since I rooted my old htc HD2, but I have to say, iOS, for all the things I hate about it, is always "improving", there are always little tricks it does to make things fresh, always little nibbles to never bore you. Rearranging this and that, improving that, whereas WP is indeed stagnant compared to the other two.
I don't know why they're taking so long to develop WP 8.1. when it comes out it'll be about a year and a half since the last major OS upgrade. the time between WP 7, 7.5, and 8 was only about a year. I don't know about WP9, but it'll be a huge change because that's when they're going to be merging Windows Phone and Windows RT. Another reason Android definitely feels more fresh is that it's open source. Nearly every manufacturer adds its own skin and feel, so it's almost like you're using a different OS.
Not that long ago, but yeah, sad to see our childhood phone company be sold for scrap, and barely anyone notice (in the real word that is, not on tech sites and whatnot).
Windows Phone has come a LONG way. Good for them. It's too bad Blackberry 10 didn't shape up to be the game changer it was supposed to be. WP8 is still a pretty boring looking OS though. No where near the polish, flexibility, or excitement of Android. iOS7's religious devotion to app grids makes it even worse. At least with Windows Phone you can resize the live tiles like Android's widgets, and the live tiles are more uniform and clean vs. Android's more functional widgets. If I had to leave my Nexus 5 behind, I'd buy a WP- but one without that horrid looking camera hump.
Yeah agree with you guys I've had 4 iOS products then my friend convinced me to go android 1 month later I got a galaxy S4 it took me about 3 days (because of learning it and setting it up) to realize how stupid iOS was and for Christmas I got a touchscreen laptop with windows 8 (thank god I needed one badly) the biggest downsize was the amount of apps but otherwise it was great. Apple is becoming that company (blackberry)
The camera makes the phone. After the bad battery life (charge like 2-3 times a day) and after all the sudden app shutdowns, screen zoom glitch (sometimes your screen is zoomed to like 200% and you have to restart to fix it) or even after the data eating glitch that occured twice on my phone, you look at your pics and are like "meh, the camera's worth it." -_-
For sudden app shutdown fix, let less apps to run in background. And For zoom, thats not glitch. There is the option is ease of access , just disable that.
Still massively in love with my 1020. Great after the buzz.
Great video as always MF. Your 1020 coverage is what got me in to Pocketnow, now I check multiple times a day for new videos. Keep up the great work!
This guy is by far my favorite reviewer on the web. Bravo to you sir for giving clear, unbiased reviews.
Another great video from Michael Fisher. Thank you, Michael.
Watching this using my 1020 😊
Best reoccurring series on Pocketnow!
5:53 Still waiting for that 1020 replacement
RIP Nokia McLaren 😔
Thanks Michael, I just bought the 1020 and I'm very happy with it and with the WINDOWS OS..
I am the only guy in my university to use this phone. Almost everyone uses 5S and GS4. If I just start taking some snaps, this thing is a HEAD TURNER. I become the attention gatherer and within my first few weeks in my university, I am famous.

Razor4ever It's yellow

I live in Europe atm so its a different story here :). But I really like the phone and Nokia here is like a phone God lol.
Amazing as always! Keep it up, Mr. Stark!

2019 it still is better than so many phones

Never been a fan of Windows Phones but this one really gets my attention and makes me really interested to actually own one
Great review
This is one of those shows that make me think that the tv will be death soon. Thanks for your videos...
I've been waiting soooooo badly for this upload XD
Keep up the great reviews. I have to say that Michael Fischer in my opinion is by far the best and most unbiased reviewer I ever seen. Other reviewers should learn from him. And BTW I'm loving my 1020. Best piece of tech I ever owned
Great job as always! I switch between my 1020 and htc one often. I still luv my Lumia camera and only hope the OS continues to improve rapidly.

I am very excited for the next thing coming for Windows Phone. Hope to switch from my iPhone to a Windows phone later this year.
Will you guys make a video on the 1520 after the buzz? I just bought my about a week ago and I'm loving my phone.
I am still really interested in this phone, I have the S4, it's a good phone, but always been interested in 1020. :)
I really like this phone. Glad to see it still rocks
Great Review!
In my country , Nokia Lumia 1020 cost higher then Nokia Lumia 1520 , about 80 US$ higher :)
I got the 1020 for Christmas. I love it!
Very good review thanks!

Exacly the same for me, only a phone with the specs you mentioned would make me swap my 1020.

Are you doing an "After the Buzz" video on the Moto X?
What battery monitor app/tile was that?
Hello, I have a question an dI hope you can answer it!
I updated my Lumia 1020 to the black update, I did get the new notifications in the Glance screen but I did not get the pedometer.
Did your Lumia 1020 got the pedometer on the Glance screen?
I am a lumia 1020 user, just wondering, does 100% charged battery last you guys for whole day with data service is on?
What is lumia black is it a new update or just a new color ??
Wish to see more about 1020, I like taking pictures n videos hope this is the best out there in market at this price range, any information about Sony xperia z1 compact

Do you guys plan on making an after the buzz review for the Lumia 1520?
1.5k+ likes and just 8 dislikes. Looks like you guys are doing a great job!
Lumia 1020. Might just be Nokia's last legendary phone.
I am thinking about getting this phone. Do you know if it will be able to update when windows 8.1 comes out? My current android phone has no update capability, and I am still on gingerbread.
hello. Can somebody tel the music name in 0:52?
can you make a re review fore the Galxy S2 I really want ti know how is my phone is aging
Watching this using my lumia 925 after i had lumia 800 and 820 thank you Nokia :)
Thanks for the review and I'll be sure to return with an update on my experience with this gem.
how is it now ?
Can you look at the lg optimus g pro again? :)
The only thing that retained me of buying this beauty, BATTERY LIFE...
Great review, thanks for the upload! Windows needs a notification center. Add that in addition to bbm and Google apps, yes I know, a long way off, and I might be able to live with windows. But until then, it's android for me
Nokia is the legend. Can't wait for the Android Nokia.
never going to happen, fortunately.
Njoi Fontes you were saying??? LOL Nokia X Nokia X+ Nokia XL
1:33-1:36 that's a first for someone to say that about iOS since it looked the same for 7 years
Great vidio
just wondering, how on earth can ANY operating system feel 'stagnant' next to ios????? android.... maybe. but IOS? the king of boredom.
to clear things up with the camera (because I have a 1020), if there are situations where the 1020 struggles, ANY other smartphone will fall on its face harder.
***** just got my wife a Moto G for Christmas... It's a great phone! Can't believe how good it is for the price.
Always love Iron Man's show... and Love the 1020
I know its relly old but after the buzz samsung galaxy s3 ???
wanted it but they did not have it with bell got the s4 instead
I don't know why they're taking so long to develop WP 8.1. when it comes out it'll be about a year and a half since the last major OS upgrade. the time between WP 7, 7.5, and 8 was only about a year. I don't know about WP9, but it'll be a huge change because that's when they're going to be merging Windows Phone and Windows RT.
Another reason Android definitely feels more fresh is that it's open source. Nearly every manufacturer adds its own skin and feel, so it's almost like you're using a different OS.
about time an iPhone 5S after the buzz comes out, please? ^^
What is the best future-prof mobile OS?
IOS no doubt or else WP8 which promises to give updates till 36 months of any new wp8 released
i'm on ios but i might switch to WP8, thanks!
Nice choice i'm now using wp8 since 9 months htc 8s and lumia 920.
Once my contract ends I'm definitely switching to WP8
Hugo Cerros Welcome to Wp8 Family in advance when u switch be sure to be a part of this group facebook.com/groups/nokialumiauserscommunity/
Note 3 for after the buzz
no 1020 in uk:(
Yes there is ....
well, there wasn't one on t-mobile when i went to get my upgrade-stuck with S4 for 2 years now!
Boby Gandhi Must have went for it on launch
I really hope its successor will not be a AT&T exclusive
Do a review on Lumia 1520
We did, several weeks ago! Find it here on our channel page, or at Pocketnow. ^M
Michael Fisher, where are you? I have been waiting for your new video reviews but there are nothing.

Great
Nice
Go stark!!!
Would you recommend this phone now in September 2016?
I'd say yes
Do the note 3
Didn't Microsoft bought Nokia's phone division a while back?
If I had to leave my Nexus 5 behind, I'd buy a WP- but one without that horrid looking camera hump.
dud i have this phone and thats the story of my life at 3:17
Please Nokia/Microsoft stop limiting the 1020 to at&t and let it be available for the rest of the carriers.
Hmmmmmm I might just buy one
Don't care how nice the pictures look, I wouldn't be fond of the "oreo" camera bump on the back of this otherwise beautiful phone.
Then just get the matte black version and you won't notice. =)
I love the camera bump with my Yellow 1020 :) makes it so unique :)
Nicko Porras Oh don't get me wrong, I don't mind it at all :D
That "bump" gives it the best camera to this date, it still hasn't been topped.
Daumex 2nd best (808 Pureview has a 35% larger sensor).
Do the moto x next
