Thank you so much for your comment Bob. At AMMO we always try to offer the best solutions for all modelers, based on the combined experiences of our team. We think Lock 'N Load will be a great addition to any modeler's workbench, especially if they do not want to work with solvent based products, or would like to work without the long drying times of oil paints.
The Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are not like standard watercolors. They are made from the best materials to be tougher and harder. This means they do not crumble or break easily, therefore they can be shaped to the perfect point as desired, using either the built-in sharpener or coarse sandpaper, as shown in the video. Their larger diameter means that they can be rubbed on texture for highlights or to add weathering effects such as soot or faded paint work. The high quality materials used to manufacture Lock 'N Load watercolor leads means that can be more easily diluted than other watercolor products, while also facilitating smoother blending. Finally, Lock 'N Load watercolor leads are purer than other watercolors, with fewer binders, meaning any mistakes can easily be removed without leaving a trace.
Lock 'N Load can be used for more than color modulation, it is possible to achieve streaking effects, chipping, the metallic sheen on tracks and small-arms, to create filters, and much more. We hope you will get the chance to try them out.
      Happy modeling!

I have this set. I like the product, but the only problem I have is that the slots in the foam which hold the leads are too tight, rendering it difficult to remove the leads without the risk of breaking them. Just a little more "give" would be advisable to avoid this problem.

Using water color pencils in scale modeling isn’t a new idea. I think what they’re selling here is the holder and colors curated for weathering (but to your point, if you already have some good water color pencils, a pencil sharpener, some sandpaper, some brushes and water, you are good to go).

      Good afternoon,
Thank you for your comment. As modelers, we should use the materials we are comfortable with, the most important thing is to enjoy the hobby. At AMMO, our goal is to provide the best modeling solutions we can based on the combined experience of our team.
The watercolor leads included with Lock 'N Load differ from standard watercolors. They’re made with high-quality materials which makes them tougher and stronger, meaning they do not break or crumble easily. This durability allows them to be shaped to the perfect point or angle with either the built-in sharpener or coarse sandpaper. As they do not have a wooden body, these watercolor leads have a larger diameter, meaning they can provide a broader surface area for creating textures, highlights, and weathering effects such as soot or faded paint.
Lock 'N Load watercolor leads also have superior blending properties, thanks to the purity of the materials used. With fewer binders than other watercolors, they are easier to dilute and blend smoothly. This purity also means that any mistakes can be wiped away cleanly, unlike some other watercolor products that may leave stains or residue.
I hope this helps. Happy modeling!

Great marketing. Model builders are very gullible. This is just a 4mm lead holder. You can just use watercolour pencils. You can even strip the wood from the pencils and load it into a lead holder.

People know what they are buying. For some its more convenient to buy just one thing from one place and no hassle, that's it. It's like washes, you just need oil paints and white spiritis. For washes, over diluted paint, so on and so forth. People pay for convenience and saving time. To each its own.

      Thank you for your comment.
At AMMO, our intention is never to "scam" people. Only to provide the best solutions we can for modelers based on the combined experienced of our team and our own projects. Of course as modelers, we have a lot of choice and should decide and choose the best product for our personal tastes and style. Lock 'N Load is different to traditional watercolor pencils for many reasons. Firstly, the fact they are solid watercolor leads means that they they can provide different surface areas and a larger diameter as they are not limited by the wooden frame. They can be shaped to the exact surface and point as required by the technique being applied. This is not possible with the narrow leads of traditional watercolor pencils. In addition, any material removed through sanding or sharpening can be combined with water and used for different effects, something that is not possible with pencils due to the wooden shavings.
They are also more dense with a lower porosity than traditional watercolor pencils, making them stronger, the tip is more resistant as a result, which is especially important when considering we are using them on hard models. Thanks to this denseness and previously mentioned larger diameter, they can be tapered to the exact shape required using sandpaper or a sanding stick. Finally, without the wood there is no need for any glue which is commonly found in pencils. Lock 'N Load leads are also made of a purer watercolor, with few binders and only the highest quality materials, this means that they can be blended and erased more smoothly and without leaving residue.
      Thank you so much,
      Jamie, AMMO Team

The problem with AMMO products is not that they are bad, the problem is that they are too expensive. Craft products are much cheaper. Segmentation is killing this hobby.

Thank you for your comment. We really appreciate it. At AMMO, our intention is to always provide the highest quality products that we can - as you can appreciate this requires the best materials possible. Alongside this, we aim to provide the best solutions we can for modelers based on the combined experienced of our team and our own projects.
Of course as modelers, we have a lot of choice and should decide and choose the best product for our personal preferences and budget. With Lock 'N Load however, we feel we offer several advantages over traditional watercolors. Firstly, the Lock 'N Load watercolors are solid color leads, without a wooden frame, this means they have a larger diameter and can provide a variety of surface areas and tips compared to pencils. They can be shaped to the exact surface and point as required by the technique being applied. This is not possible with the narrow leads of traditional watercolor pencils. In addition, as any shavings from Lock 'N Load will not be contaminated with wood or glue like with pencils, and can therefore be reused and mixed with water to create further effects. This means no product is wasted through sharpeneing.
Lock 'N Load colors are denser with a lower porosity than traditional watercolor pencils, making them stronger, the tip is more resistant as a result, which is especially important when considering we are using them on hard models. This means fewer breakages, and therefore less waste. Thanks to this denseness and previously mentioned larger diameter, they can be tapered to the exact shape required using sandpaper or a sanding stick. Finally, without the wood there is no need for any glue which is commonly found in pencils. Lock 'N Load leads are also made of a purer watercolor, with fewer binders and only the highest quality materials, this means that they can be blended and erased more smoothly, without leaving residue.

I disagree about their products being too expensive, a lot of the stuff is actually quite cheap compared to other hobby specific products. At €2.60-3.00/ bottle, Ammo paints are some of the cheapest mini paints on the market while still being excellent quality. And Ammo kolinksy brushes are some of the least expensive I found and are significantly cheaper than Windsor & Newton series 7.
