There's one world record that will never be broken, the speed record on water. It's a little more than 317 MPH, was set in the late 1970s, and the two most recent attempts have resulted in death, so the Guinness people won't even accept attempts for this anymore.

Doesn't mean someone can't or won't attempt and maybe succeed in breaking it. Not like Guiness has any de facto authority on what is or isn't a world record, they can only decide what they keep track of and what they don't.

You beat me by 13 hours. I stayed awake for 85 hrs straight. During this time I worked 3 six hour shifts delivering pizza for Pizza Hut. Yes, I was a stupid kid of about 19 years old driving around while sleep deprived. Believe me when I tell you I have NEVER tried that, again!

Wow. I used to think my staying awake for 52 hours was long. Jobless depression + 4 pots of coffee + multiple bathroom breaks + 2 macaroni and cheese meals + continuous playing the PS2's Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater game = 52 hours. It was fun & even though I beat my previous record of 48 hours awake playing Soul Calibur 3, I haven't tried it again. Being 40 now instead of my early 20's, I'm tapped out around 20 hours. Longest SLEEP, 1st was 21 hours in the U.S. Navy. I had a cool squad leader who wrote me in for morning muster and let me sleep in during liberty without consequence. Depression helped me beat that record years later at 26 sleeping 25 hours. Yes, I literally slept a full day away. Fell asleep Wednesday night 11pm & woke up Friday morning 1am. Could've made a funny joke song for weird AL Yankovic covering Metallica's song Tuesday's Gone. L.O.L.

The longest I've stayed awake was through the night during a 7-hour coach journey the first time I went to Germany with my Mum and Dad in 2011. I think my body clock reset itself when I saw the sun out the coach window when we arrived at the Port of Dover as I felt awake at that moment
