    I remember when I first got out of prison, I had just served 3 years. I came home and my kids were in a local daycare. I used to get them up early, get them ready and walk them and at the end of the day I’d walk to go get them. It was only a 5 minute walk. Well I went early one day and picked the up and evidently it was “nap time” and they had the kids laid all over the floor in these make-shift plastic mattress holders and I immediately had a flash back of my first days in county jail. Those “boats” were the same ones I had to sleep in when the gang module in the county jail was over crowded. Scattered all over the floor was us. And looking at them shocked me.

    Generational trauma is a very real thing. Healing it takes incredible strength and awareness.
    This does not mean murder and crime can go unchecked and unbalanced, but reform and rehabilitation need to be a really part of justice, as right now, our system is broken on both sides.

    Thank you for talking your shit. Mexican OT speaks about the same up bringing. It's dope to hear men breaking the silence and its dope to see the black and brown community men come together and support eachother, in vindicating and confirming the internal battle and success. What's even doper is that the black and brown community is not conforming to oppression laws and systems. They are stopping the curses and providing more choices for the younger generation to seek help and aid within the black and brown community for help, healing and growth. 100%

    I feel like I just woke up to what systemic oppression is. I didn't bang as a child, but I grew up in the hood. That "window/wall" that they spoke of in this video happens to even those that didn't gangbang while growing up. We grow up thinking that nobody will ever accept us just because of our circumstances and I'm 51yrs old. I live in Central Texas now but grew up in several hoods in and around the Long Beach area. And to this day, I still feel that oppresion from everyone.... But the choice is mine to either say eff it or embrace it in order to better myself.

    I’ve never felt more divided , I definitely learned a lot more in terms of culture. I didn’t know if it was because I was brown or just from California. Fuck it Maybe both. I learned being self-educated. Well-spoken and defending yourself verbally can you truly change someone’s heart for the good.

      It’s easy to say right from wrong we grew up learning from our parents. Point the finger at us we teach our kids and have impact and influence in their lives choices. If your an immigrant and file the right papers work to be here in the states legally that’s the right way if you chose not to that and just cross over that consider illegal and wrong? If you cross over that means your whole persona is illegal and you just contradict yourself on not breaking any laws.

    • @dmanoie5146
      @dmanoie5146 5 месяцев назад

      This isn't an illegal immigrant issue or being a law abiding citizen... it's about a system that sucks you in from early childhood, and becomes the only thing your exposed to, so it becomes your reality. Poverty, drug addiction, domestic violence, and gang violence in your family. I had friends whose parents were never around, never went out the block,to the beach, ate at a fast food place. My parents were illegal immigrants too, and we lived in South Central, I saw gang violence in the streets and school but other than that, I didn't see gang violence in my home,abuse, or drug addiction so I turned ok, so it's not about that. Other than being an illegal, did you and face all of these adversities and trauma in your family ??

    • @BreakingBadGarage

    I mean ya I understand the schools look like prison with the metal detectors and all but they didn’t do it saying “ these kids are bad and MIGHT bring guns and knives to school and we want to prevent it”. They WERE bringing guns and knives to school so they installed them BECAUSE of that. They would do it ANYWHERE, even in Beverly Hills if the kids were bringing guns and knives to the point it’s a problem and usen them. I only say that because someone’s gonna say “ bro you don’t think some kid NEVER brought a gun or knife to school in Beverly Hills or somewhere nice and expensive”. Na I’m sure they have but not to the point as the other places with metal detectors installed.
