This week we report from the northern city of Calais, where thousands of migrants and refugees have been forced to set up camp in the past year as they flee war and poverty in their homelands. In most cases, Calais is not the final destination, but a stopover before they set out to cross the English Channel and make their way to Britain where the chances of finding work are higher. We visit “The Jungle”, one of the main camps and which currently houses an estimated 4,000 people.

If it costs $5000 to pay traffikers why don't they use that money to support themselves in their own countries. France and Britain don't be suckers for these free loaders.

I have very little sympathy for these people. They have travelled through several safe countries before arriving here. They COULD have claimed asylum at any of them. They are refusing to register in France therefore they are in these camps BY CHOICE. They are prepared to break the law to enter Britain so why should we expect them to be law abiding if they do manage to break into the UK?????????? They are criminals.
Just stand up to them,and tell them to f off to their country.
And how would they know england would not except them? How would they know they would be stranded? Many have familymembers and want to be reunited. Thats natural.

When my grandparents left Ukraine in 1910 and came to Canada they faced an uncertain future. They travelled to British Columbia to work for the Canadian Pacific Railway about 3000 miles away from the port of entry Halifax . My grand father laid rail with immigrants from a dozen different nations while my grand mother worked as a cook feeding the line crew. During the Great Depression my uncles travelled by boxcar to northern Ontario and Quebec to work in the mines which were hundreds of miles away and send a large portion of their pay back home . It was bloody hard work 10 and 12 hour shifts underground. Our ancestors were made of sterner stuff then these would be "refugees"
if the authorities dont raid and close that camp once and for all very soon.. the people of europe will one day do it. and that will not look very nice then .. just saying..

In the camp called Samos the local grocery store said that there is constant stealing of alchohol(rose champagne are common). They even said if they were stealing food they wouldn't mind as much but alcohol is expensive. After putting a security guard at the front people are criticizing for discrimination but doesn't the store have right to protect its merchandise??

I would not like it either having the camps right outside my door. Apart from the fact that it used to be a tourist town who wants to go there now they don't think about the lives they have spoiled, they just say the same line, racist the people there are racist. They quickly learn that word racist and racism without thinking it may have nothing to do with that and more to do with losing their living. People in England don't want you there that is why they are making it harder for you to get there you are not wanted can't you get it. Most of people in the UK think that you should go to a Muslim country when they start taking you then maybe we will as well, but I honestly think we have enough Muslims already in the UK we don't need any more they are already asking for too much, demanding and then trying to blow us up etc it's too much, but we have let them get away with this by turning the other way incase we get called racist everyone it seems was scared of getting called that especially if they were far from it.
