BOISE -- Two weeks before Alex Cox died, Chad Daybell cried as he gave Cox a 15-minute patriarchal blessing promising that he was elect and a warrior for God.
A patriarchal blessing is given to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by someone who has been asked to be a patriarch by church leaders. The patriarch gives promise, counsel, and lifelong guidance intended solely for the recipient.
Daybell was giving the blessing to Cox on his own accord as it was not his calling within the church.
Daybell laid his hands on Cox's head and gave him the blessing on Nov. 24, 2019. Cox's sister, Lori Vallow Daybell, was in the room for the blessing and can be heard saying "amen" at the end. Cox died on Dec. 12, 2019.
An audio recording and written transcript of the blessing were admitted into evidence during Lori Daybell's murder trial Thursday. You can listen to the recording in the video player above.

What stuck with me today was the idea that Lori took the phone from Charles so he wouldn’t be able to call for help when Alex ambushed him. It haunts me that he likely laid there for 30 minutes dying with those people looking at him.

What I learned was that Charles’ phone was in his rental car, Lori put JJ in the car and took his phone, brought it into the house and harassed him with it. We all can imagine he wanted his phone back .. the situation escalated and he was shot. But, why would Charles remain in the house? Suspish

I am convinced that Alex took something himself and killed himself in consultation with Chad and Lori if it became clear that the children were not just missing. Why else would you ask for a blessing that also had no use beacause killers don't go to heaven. And if I was Kay I would file a lawsuit against Lori that she should never ever use the last name Vallow again, not only did she have him killed she also didn't tell Kay he was dead... just unbelievable.

Yeah, they're never a 7eleven clerk who spent his free time watching Netflix, or a Midwest housewife, whose husband worked as a janitor at the local high school, who spends their time together, tending to their stamp collection. Or, a housewife whose children have moved away to attend college and she now spends her free time selling volunteering at the local hospital, or, a social studies teacher at the local middle school, still lived w parents, and who died from his/her sleep apnea.

Daybell says that he's bestowing this blessing on Alex because Alex "had EARNED it..." So Alex killed Charles Vallow and those precious children for a BLESSING?!?! The level of depravity in this case is off the charts.

I think Lori was into murder for convenience long before she met Chad, she has more than 1 dead ex husband. However, meeting Chad was I believe,
a disastrous example of a toxic chemistry they had. They achieved (destroyed) together more than they ever could alone. The murder accelerated at a dizzying pace.
She also had a dead former lawyer. Who knows if that was at the hands of lori? I don't remember the circumstances.

LDS always record what they call patriarchal blessings so that they can type up the transcript and give it to the recipient. It's supposed to be a special revelation and guide for the person. The beliefs are not the same though. Portals, dimensions, past lives, zombies and needing to kill them are all Chad's own creepy personal teachings.
They recorded it themselves so they could type it up for Alex. They view this as a patriarchal blessing which is meant to be written down as "guidance" for Alex to refer back to. Sort of like a horoscope.

I couldn’t stomach it. I had some anxiety at the start of the blessing, I thought he was going to invoke the name of the Savior. I was relieved that he didn’t, and when he had to name the church, he said the church of the firstborn.

I dont really understand why a Muslim woman would need to wear a hijab, for example. But I do respect and value a person's right to worship God how they choose (within the bounds of the law, of course), and hope that sentiment is reciprocated for my LDS beliefs. Also, the point I think was being made here is that those of us who do subscribe to the LDS faith are also stunned and sickened and shocked by Chad and Lori. This is not at all what we believe, it's a terrible perversion, and it's frustrating and disheartening to see Chad and Lori take something so beautiful and twist and distort it to this hellish perversion of truth. I have going to stay awake for a few weeks, here in the Netherlands it is now 2:45 am, But it's worth it, I've been following this since day 1, Never in the whole world have I experienced anything like this story, and that all for money.
