In the comics, Yondu's arrow is made of a sound- sensitive metal called Yaka. That's why he can control its path with whistles. His fin is natural to the Centaurian race. The Stan Lee cameo is him telling stories to The Watchers, beings who observe everything that happens in the universe. They are forbidden to interfere with the course of actions. That's why it's funny when they walk away during his last story, someone found a way to bore them.😅 Last note, Ego,in the comics, is an actual planet.

It goes unnoticed but Drax entering the atmosphere of a planet from the outside of a ship without being hurt. It shows how durable and strong drax is in this movie then compare it to the beating he received at the hands of Ronan the accuser the main villain in the first guardians movie shows how powerful Ronan had to be.

This is one of the scenes I reference to counter those who claim MCU Drax is "nerfed" and "trash".
They're just not factoring in [or are simply unaware of] the capabilities the wealthier Kree can gain through modification.

Of all the separate MCU film franchises, I feel like the Guardians films are the most well rounded. They’ve got lots of action, great visuals, lots of humor, plenty of heart, they drive home the fact that family doesn’t have to be blood, and each one can make you cry.
Especially the third. Idk if I can even watch that one again. Lots of tears in that one. (No spoilers)

James Gunn is a fellow St Louis comic fan and I spoke to him about how Rocket is not a gunner. He’s a saboteur and should be shown as such. I reminded him that Rocket can take down an entire battalion by himself with his traps.

The movie take place 2 to 3 months after guardians volume 1 so the post credit scene with teenage Groot takes place 4 years later. Rocket is Groot father Gamora's his mother Star-Lord his older brother and Drax his crazy uncle. Yondu and the ravages in the post credit scene where the original guardians of the Galaxy from the comic books. Most heroes in the MCU are the secondary versions of the characters like Scott Lang is the second Ant-Man or Hope van dyne being the second Wasp to her mother Janet Van dyne who was the first. Nebula was never the true villain she was a survivor like Loki who is willing to do whatever it takes to survive so through other eyes it seemed villainous but through their own it's was only a means to a end.

The best part of this movie is how well they treated Nebula and Yondu. Like completely redeemed their characters without cheating their earlier movies. It's pretty great for both and neither went the easy route. Most movies have someone break good with no real reason.
Drax though becomes an amazingly good character but they like it reinvented him some. But I'm not mad about it. : )

Gamora has always been standoffish with being romantic with Peter. In the first movie, remember, she said she wasn't some "starry-eye waif" that would fall for his "pelvic sorcery." 😆She was less standoffish in this movie, like when she pulled him aside and said to him that maybe Ego could be his David Hasselhoff (or Zardu Hasselfrau 😁). Plus, she danced with him here, so he's SLOWLY breaking down her defenses.

Honestly, breaking down at the end over Yondu is 100% valid. It still gets me every time I see it, not least of which because I'm a stepdad, myself. I don't get everything right (or much of anything in my kid's eyes, these days, but that's a teenager for you), but I do my best, and I'm working as hard as I can to give her the best opportunity to thrive later in life that I can.

5:53 rocket's reaction is legitimate. but it's mainly because he knows what Peter represents... Ayesha considers that Peter is a "deviant" (identical to thanos)... But ego is a "celestial", not an "eternal"... in the comics, it is explained that the "eternals" are not allowed to reproduce with the "deviants" under penalty of being annihilated by the Celestials.

  • @rnkelly36

Only bit of advice I give people getting into Marvel comic characters is that you are going to have to give up your normal assumptions of Good and Bad. Where DC comics in the past grew out of the "Gods on Earth" concept where you had "good" characters like Superman and Wonder Woman, Marvel became something different in the 1960s were all characters were more normal with human flaws. Being "good" may be for just one thing in particular. Marvel storytelling tried to change the idea of what is known in literature as the "superhero" and "hero" narrative. DC comics began to change around the 1990s and now we have these movies which are more complex in "good" or "bad" ideals. If I were teaching a class on the history of comics in writing an movies I would explain how today's "hero" is not really a hero anymore. The story is more about being the best you can be for the situation that presents itself. The writings are a bit more complex and James Gunn is good at tackling complex issues of morality with humor and fun.

23:02 Gravity would depend 'pon the planet's mass, not size. If Ego's planet has a density around 6x greater than Earth's then it would exert a similar gravitational pull. Although since the planet is an extension of Ego's body and he has godlike powers 'tis equally possible that he simply creates an artificial type of gravity that's not dependent on the regular laws of physics anyway ^_~

Ego exists in the comics but he isn't Peter's dad. His father is a character named Jason of Spartax.

James Gunn does the same thing for DC the 2021 movie The Suicide Squad. He's the best at making us love a misfit cast of characters. Please watch it soon.
