As a Kings fan, my frustration grew to the point where I'd specifically watch PLD when he was on the ice to see what was happening. The guy avoided the puck at all costs. It was incredibly rare that he'd bury his head and give 100% skating effort to make a play. There were even times when the other team had a breakaway, PLD was the closest guy, yet another teammate further back made it to the action. It was absolute insanity to see how little effort he put in. There were rare flashes of brilliance where he'd undress the other team's defense, and those are the plays that gave false hope. If I looked at the entire season, I'd say he gave 40% effort. As a Kings fan since the 80's, PLD is the only player that I wouldn't want to meet in person and get an autograph. I'm so happy he got traded.

As an LA kings fan, I was optimistic when we first got him. He played good to start, then you see the lazy plays. The flashes of brilliance come out too. It's about time people realize that after 3 teams, maybe its not the environment, maybe it is the player and just being flat out lazy. He has been in 3 different hockey environments, 2 contenders and still the same things get said over and over again. You really can't defend him anymore at this point.

I generally gave him a break on the “effort” because it’s possible that he’s just that efficient, that it looks like he’s not trying, but he is. On the other hand, he was WAY TOO EASILY bumped off the puck, especially on the boards. But that’s where “lack of effort” came in. I would NEVER see him make an effort to get the puck back once he was EASILY bumped off. I think that’s all the fans wanted: a hint of fight in the guy. I never saw it.
Also, I would watch the bench to see if he was chatting with other players. I think the guy was on an island. I wonder if he lacks social skills or his teammates just get pissed due to his lack of effort. It’s pure speculation, but I always suspected he had trouble developing relationships with his teammates because they viewed him as a primadona.

The best Rob Blake trade in Kings history was Rob Blake getting out from under the worst Rob Blake trade in Kings history acquiring PLD in the first place. He'll bomb in Washington; last one back on D every shift, he is a 1-dimensional player hard on offense huge liability on D, worse yet a very selfish player taking selfish penalties who is all mouth and no fists, challenging opponents but won't drop the gloves, going to a team that is more O than D for a bad fit, he will never be their first line center as you can't have 2 O first players with Ovy and PLD on the same line so he will cop an attitude as he always has and underperform as usual and will get bought out eventually, move to Hawaii, buy a mansion on the beach and laugh all the way to the bank. Tortorelli had him pegged. Darcy stood on his head last night glad to see him back, the boy knows how to square up, a bargain at $5M. Let's hope they treat him better than they did Quickie, we had to give up a first rounder to get rid of a Cup MVP??????? Then Quick stands on his head in Vegas the last 10 games of the regular season after goalie injuries and gets another ring going for #4 with the Rangers Touche!!! Hopefully ownership will now dump Blake, he is terrible at judging talent, Byfield at #2 didn't take Stützle, no contact figure skater Turcotte at #5, can't skate Clake at #8, Blake has to go!!!!!!!!!!

"Lazy" isn't quite the right word for him. A lazy guy won't spend enough time in the gym to even get to the NHL. He's not unwilling to work, he just doesn't have the inner compete level or the desire of an NHL player. He knows you want him to be first on pucks, win battles, recover pucks, and go full out. The problem is he just doesn't agree that that's what he should be doing. He thinks that the way he's playing is correct. It's obvious he thinks/sees the game in a way where he'll just stand straight up and watch it unfold around him. And it's obvious he's very secure and confident in doing what he thinks is right, regardless of the consequences. I think they only way he ever reaches his potential is through hypnotherapy.

It's projecting to say PLD's trade destroyed the Kings' chances for Cup contention in the playoffs. The Kings, with no 1C, no 1D and no 1G never had a chance. The moment they let go of Dean Lombardi in 2020, they should have been looking at a total rebuild within a couple years.

If you mess up in 2, ok....if you mess up in every single market you enter? Thats just a lazy player, get the money, check out. I think PLD is exactly that kind of player. Honestly, I think he should be kicked to the curb and let some younger, hungrier, willing to play their worth players in. He has has enough chances.

This guy is still a top 6 Center on a NHL team finished playing World Championships for Canada. Has put up 60+ pts.
It's not a failure to me yes he doesn't try,yes he didn't show loyalty and cares more about money and location. Reminds me of the EvanderKane hate and DanyHeatley back in day.
How many hockey players grow up wanting get drafted, make millions, play NHL/pro hockey,Represent country WJC/WC,and is only 26yrs old. Yes he's not a McDavid,McKinnon,Crosby but it's not like he was drafted never played or got a regular job, isn't talented or gets to do what is a dream of many hockey players.
Even say a 1st round pick who still gets to play pro either I KHL/NHL/NLA make 150k plus a year I don't consider a bust they are still living their dream. And making more then us regular folk.

The LA Kings gutted themselves to add Dubois. Who didn't see that coming? Besides LA I mean.
At his best he is a 3/4 of a point a game 25 goal player. He has done that, his best, three times in his seven year NHL career.
he struggled in his last year in Columbus, during his first year in winnipeg and in his first year in LA.
he will probably work fine on a team in Washington that is just looking to feed Ovechkin and is going to be terrible again. His one moment of playoff glory came versus the Leafs.
You redraft the 2016 draft and he goes 17th to Nashville behind carter hart ahead of Ross Colton.

Washington is in a limbo period, their roster is aging and they have no center help. The team wants to be competitive until Ovi retires, but they just don't have the makeup. Because he still is a good hockey player, he isn’t even two years removed from a 60 point season and if he is placed in the right system who knows.
