    Amazing! I retired from the Army in 2009, after 20 years and multiple combat deployments. I was 38 and purchased 65 Acres; my kids were growing and now raising my grandkids, on our little slice of heaven. Most of our vegetables and Protein come from, our land. We still go help out the locals at the farmer's market, we buy, sell, and swap. This is living!

    We leave wild onions in our pasture and use them all the time like chives.

    Looks so wholesome! The family, working together, not a mass production. Thanks for sharing!

    Hi guys!
    After a long winter it’s great to see all of you. Holy cow has your one son sprouted over the winter. Is he out growing pants shirts and shoes every 3 months? He must be eating you out of house and home too. My mother’s common complaint about me at that age.
    You know you already have pleanty of nitrogen on hand in chicken manure. It might be wise to compost t last some of it separately from the cow manure. Use it sparingly though as a little goes a long way.

      Thank you! Yes most of our chicken manure at this point goes straight on the ground due to the design of our coop. It’s nice fertilizer for the grass, haha! Someday I’d love to design a mobile chicken run where it fits on top of one of my garden beds so they can fertilize and weed all in one. I love how useful chickens are in the garden... well as long as they don’t eat the plants🙂

    I would also like to see a video on how your compost bin was made! I need to build a compost bin my self and this seems so simple. A video on how it was done would be great for visual learners.

      Agree! I kept wondering what tools were used. You said all we did was make notches to put the boards in, but make notches how? With what tool and how.

  • @sonyastice489

    Your rows are so perfect! What tools do you use to make it look like that?

    • @TheSeasonalHomestead
      @TheSeasonalHomestead  3 года назад +3

      We originally used a BCS Tractor and strung a plumb line down the row. After we plowed I raked everything into place using the line as a guide. Now that the beds are all made, I don't plow because we are doing a no-till garden. I have a 30 inch rake I got from Johnnys selected seeds that I use to rake off mulch and prep the beds. It is the exact width of my garden rows and I use that to make sure it's all the same width.

      @@TheSeasonalHomestead we are also doing no till, but have a bunch of new beds that we do the first ground breaking with a plow and disc. The rake sounds handy, I'll check it out!

      @@TheSeasonalHomestead It looks like you are using your rake to mark for square foot planting. What are the longer extensions on your rake? Thanks, and great job.

    Question, how do you cook the broccoli raab that you grow? I have grown it but find it too bitter to eat. Any ideas would be fantastic. It seemed to grow awesome for me but I couldn’t figure out how to swallow it Lol. Thanks for sharing. You seem to be as determined as I get to get my garden planted each year. Come rain or darkness I’m out there too!
