I have a 40, 50 and a 60. I love these reels for offshore trolling. They are light, strong and very reliable. I service them yearly by following the video and they sre smooth as silk.
Great video.... I've been eyeing this reel and the Fathom before purchasing and wanted to see the insides to determine the ease of maintenance. It looks easy and is why I seem to prefer Penn reels (I love my jigmaster for that reason). I do the same when buying a car... show me the engine and the ease of access to the oil filter and oil pan plug. Well-maintained equipment makes everything last longer.
I just did a service on my Penn Squall 40LD following you video and I’d like to thank you for the comprehensive tutorial that you provided. Thanks.
Glad to have helped - Thanks
I have noticed Dennis that you use you finger or thumb as a guide when putting back those screws great idea.

Glad it was helpful! We said. Maintenance is everything - Dennis
Wow I’m surprised. I don’t think I noticed any plastic pieces on the INSIDE of that reel. 👍
No Plastic! And nice bearings too! There is quality in this reel - Dennis
Squall reels are tough reels at the price point below the Fathom.
Yes they are. They are a good value for price/performance
