For 180 days, Ruslan enters into a silent agreement with it. No bulldozers. No shortcuts. Just tools, timber, fire… and time.

The forest remains vast and indifferent, but inside this compact wooden geometry, there is warmth. Order. Endurance. The total bushcrafting dream.

Just a thought:
If the wood shed was built as an extension of the cabin in front of the door about 3 feet away, would it be helpful as a windbreak and snowbreak for the cabin entrance and also work as a kind of foyer? Also, the wood would be closer to retrieve in bad weather.
The thoughtful man lets the wifey express where she would like the wood shed and the outhouse.
That is a brilliant idea. It's not like the door has a window or anything. 👍🏼
I'd like to know more about this fellow, a lot more, like, is he planning to live there permanently, does he have a vehicle, a gun, where does he get his fresh food since he seems to have fresh food every day and no place to keep it? I must have missed how he got lights....battery or solar maybe. He must stink to high heaven with no way to wash and only one set of clothes. It was fun to watch the cabin come to be but I agree that door is pretty flimsy, I'd want logs on it. 😮 Maybe it's just a place to get away from chaos of his other life. 😅

That's the same thing I was wondering. If he spends 180 days so remote, where does he get all the food, including veggies? I can imagine he could catch a rabbit, but he has a lot more food.

@DouglasLawson-z4jyou have to use a log boom to lift full size tree logs. A cord wood structure is much simpler for a single man or even a woman to build. I'm just sayin' . . .

He should buy a sheet of the black foam (like he sleeps on) and sandwich it between another layer of wood on the door - stronger, more insulation, and quieter.

We used to call these cord wood cabins.
I used corner posts.
Your door wont keep a bear out or open after a heavy snow.
Suggest double door outer on a track and inner openning inward.

what ive noticed many cabin builders forget about is termites, any wood in direct contact with the soil will be eaten by termites.
If there are termites in that area. Not all areas have termites. Termites generally do not live in Russia, as they require warmer, temperate to tropical climates, and are not native to northern regions. In Eastern Europe, they are not widely established.

На окно делают ставень, часто из листа металла. Бочку 200-литровую режут и из неё! На двери ставень делать бесполезно - если медведь захочет проникнуть в избу, он разберёт угол, или через окно влезет. Силы у него хватит разобрать эту хижину на чурбаки!
И получается, что проще (дешевле) позволить ему залезть в избу, чем позволить изуродовать её!!!

@johngreydanus2033you are not supposed to have a door like that directly exposed. The wall should have curved in front of the door. Something like a porch with an air lock system, a bit like his window system. I've seen West Coast Native long houses with wall sections directly in front of the main entrance.
A bear would have no trouble getting through that thin door, especially after smelling steak for dinner.
And now, all you need is a nice picnic table outside so your girlfriend can come and read out in the daylight when the weather is warm!

I am truly impressed. This was such an outstandingly interesting video and I admire this man. What somehow (and you might forgive my unprofessional opinion) worried me is: the door. This door is not strong. I would worry that bears (who are very smart) would want to look inside and come through the door. The narration (text) and everything else is quite philosophic & I TRULY admire the skills of this man.

Я много лет прожила на Камчатке и там до сих пор медведи убивают людей. Боялась их жутко, но в лес ездила за ягодой и грибами. Но когда прекратили санитарные отстрелы, мишек стало в разы больше. И я перестала собирать ягоду и грибы. Я уехала с Камчатки. То, что иностранцы думают о России, что медведи ходят по нашим улицам, осуществилось на Камчатке... 😢😢😢

Unless I missed it, I see one life endangering flaw - a way for outside air to flow into the interior which is critical for the fire to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning, as well as providing an exit for excess moisture to escape.
Was also handling raw chicken and meat without any washing facilities. Another life endangering flaw. I wouldn’t like to stay a night here without a fire extinguisher 🧯

Not sure about a CO problem; it should all vent out above the roof, but I wonder how is he getting air into the stove in order to have fire? I guess there is a small hole somewhere on the stove that allows air to be pulled in, but that means he's using all the air from his cabin; looks like he's got it so airtight that no air can get in the cabin from outside (?); IDK; looks like he might could be creating a low oxygen problem that could be deadly (?). Might be ok if he opens a window every so often to let air in from outside (?). But if no air is let in for 6 or 7 hours, he might have a real problem.
And I think a bear could knock those windows out (AND the door) pretty easily; a bear smelling that meat cooking could be very scary!!! If a bear smells that meat, I doubt that he will knock politely on your door and ASK to come in and dine with you!!!
And what if a person (who is up to NO GOOD) comes knocking on your door? I hope you have a gun to defend yourself. It would really be nice if you had a camera outside pointing at your door, and have a monitor inside to see if someone comes to your door, and maybe you could see if they might be armed.
He obviously knows what he's doing!! I would've added more windows, but very solidly built. The door doesn't seem as sturdy enough from animals as it could be. JMHO

@Николай, печь из кирпича не рассчитана на быстрый обогрев помещения. А без кирпича домик обогреется очень быстро, но не надолго.
@Ispasito, деревенские избы отапливаются печами из кирпича. Основной объём тепла кирпичная печь получает не в процессе горения дров, а от жара углей уже после завершения топки, когда закрыта заслонка в трубе.
@jill-p7n, опасные места(участок стены и пол под печкой) - теплоизолированы. Опасности никакой нет.

I would thicken and insulate that door inside and out, and also provide a last line of protection on the inside. 4 or 5 large posts that slide across the door opening horizontally into "U" brackets fastened to the logs every 16" to stop a bear from entering! Also, a large caliber rifle, shotgun and sidearm - all semi-auto.

EXACTLY! There wasn't a consideration for a termite barrier in and around the foundation,footers, and the exterior walls. In fact, the whole structure lacks connective reinforcements. Great effort though.
