I’m 5’9” and halfway through last year I got a “new” set of pxg irons that were an inch longer than standard. WOW it made it impossible to hit them consistently. 4-6 went the same distance. 7-9 were stupid short. Pw/sw both felt nasty. Went back to my 35 yo ping knockoffs for the rest of the year. Finally got them cut down and I’m excited to get out.
I’m 5’4, definitely on the shorter side playing golf. But I’m looking to get fitted. Been playing for 3 years and I’m been trying to figure out where to set my hands more often lately. I’m definitely struggling on the length of my clubs. I think they are standard size
Yes, if you get fitted, you’ll find you can set your hands where it feels natural, rather than trying to figure out where they should go. For now, I suggest you grip down close to the bottom of the grip and stand a bit closer to the ball. See how the short club feels.
Getting fitted is something I’ve yet to do. I’ve always bought off the rack and just went with it. Currently gaming One Length irons which helped me tremendously! But I’m definitely going to get fitted very soon. I enjoyed the video 🤘🏽
Thanks Beven! It is fun to experiment, especially if we continually work on our swing. Cool that you’re enjoying one-length irons… I haven’t tried that but might have to at some point. I’ve got some videos about how to replace a a golf head on a shaft if you want to try and fix your 5 iron. They are in my “equipment” playlist. Golf is expensive so anywhere we can save some $ 😉
I searched this video based on my current feelings after a few poor range and course sessions. I bought a set of Stix’s clubs and realized they were all about an inch to 1/2 inch shorter (all standard length) than my knockoff hand me down Taylor-Made set. I took my son out swinging today and used the old set of irons and flushed a lot of shots I took compared to my new clubs. The new clubs have me feeling like I really need to stand closer to the ball or exaggerate my posture to get position for good contact and I top a lot of balls or hit the ground way short when I try to adjust my position.
It does make a big difference to have a club length that suits our unique swing. It is possible to lengthen your new clubs. There are lengtheners you can purchase (plastic for graphite shafts and steel for steel shafts). A little epoxy and they can be installed on the grip end of the club. Something you might want to consider when it comes time to change your grips!?
I'm 6'2" and I can only get a decent strike when I excessively push my hands low at impact. I think I may need longer shafts. Thank you from not so sunny Wales.
It could help to try a club that is a bit longer. Even a half inch can make a difference and there are extenders that can be attached to the butt end of golf clubs 😊
I'm about your height (just under 6'2"), do you have extensions on your clubs? and by how much? I noticed that my irons seem to be short for me so I am thinking about getting a new set of clubs. Just bought the Ai Smoke driver at standard length and was told that is fine for my height.
It can be uniquely different for our setup position over the ball, but, at 6’1” I wanted to feel a little more upright and less bent over as the clubs get shorter. My irons and wedges are +1/2” longer. My Hybrid and Woods are +1/4” longer, and my Driver is standard length. It seems to work for me. I always order my clubs a little longer since it is easier to cut them down than it is to lengthen them.
I'm 6'2" with long arms and the best irons I ever played were Titleist 962's right off the rack. I made the prettist dollar bill divot with these and had good distance control. IMO height doesn't mean a thing, all depends on player set up.
Agreed in general. It’s certainly individual and 6’2” is right around that standard club length so you wouldn’t notice the impact of club length as much as someone who is 6’6” or 5’2”. It is more about finding out works best for us and a player’s setup and posture are factors!
Hi, I'm new to golf with 149 cm in height. I have bought a golf club set, but each club is too long and uncomfortable to use. Is it okay to use Junior Golf Clubs?
It’s tough to say what the best option would be and seeing a club fitter might be a good idea to find out what is best for you. If a Junior set feels comfortable, I would think it is fine to use them. You can also try a ladies set which is just a shorter shaft with more flex.
Im 6'1" but with short arms for my height. Pretty sure I need longer clubs cuz i have to stand way too close to the ball and bend too far to hit the ball solidly.
Makes sense. I’m 6’1” as well and I have my irons 1/2” longer and my hybrid/woods 1/4” longer so I can feel more upright in my posture (and I have long arms). This could be the secret ingredient for you. Clubs can actually be lengthened with inserts that are epoxied on the grip end of the shaft!
@GregsGolfShack Yeah Im leaning towards having my irons lengthened. Not as big of an issue with my driver or 3 wood. Only the short irons and wedges that I really have to bend to get down to. Its funny that Bryson Dechambeau had all his irons cut to the same length cuz thats something i thought about doing a decade ago lol
Indeed, swing weight will be impacted and there are methods to adjust that. A detailed clubfitting can help a golfer find a swing weight that feels best.
You can find references online and I include a reference in the description. But it can be very unique for each individual. As mentioned, visiting a clubfitter is the best option.
Nonsense. When you bend your knees to simulate a shorter stature, your arms remain the same length, so the shaft is effectively too long. However, someone with a shorter stature is unlikely to have such disproportionately long arms. And vice versa.
While my arms in this demo may be longer, it doesn’t change the fact that a shorter or taller person will not have hands that are the same distance from the floor. Generally speaking, a shorter person’s hands will be closer to the floor than a taller person and different length golf clubs can accommodate.

Nice! Hope it does the trick! ☺️
been playing 4-7 same length as 7. 8- wedges standard. Went from 6-4 in my last 3 months playing these lengths. hybrids and woods also modified.
Nice! How’s it working?

I’m a little over 6’ and found out standard was too short. Needed plus 1”. It made a big difference.
Amazing how equipment that feels right can help us to stop questioning our swing! Glad you found a length that works well for you.

That’s Awesome! Have a lovely week!
Thank you. You have a great week as well 😊

Agree with you on the importance of club length.
Thanks Lauro. Hopefully the tip will help some folks 😊

1" off the butt of a iron changes the swing weight by 6 swing points making it feel much lighter!

Omg. You never showed HOW to measure for the right golf length.
Unreal!!!
