Wow!!!!! Leylah Fernandez went cruising right through Alizẽ Cornet with her power and speed. Way to go Leylah. Congratulations on that very impressive performance against a veteran player who eliminated Emma Raducanu on the first round of the WTA US Open last year. Looking great.
@@angellestat2730 lol wtf? where did that come from? geeez if you're gonna project onto people, at least disguise it a little better my guy. :blocked: take care then
Fernandez is one of the few really watchable women's players, I can think of right now. I wish she will win a GS one day or failing that achieve a lot of consistent success in tournaments across her career.
Things aren’t going to be easy for Leylah this tournament… up next? Caroline Garcia. They really want her to be a French obstacle so far… oddly it might get easier for a while if she can get past Garcia… personally though, I give the edge to Garcia.
It is about time to start the good win coz you have been so nice to watch you play.. wonderful win and more to come.. best of luck here in the Philippines who loves you very much.. gogogo!!!
I love Fernandez's game. Raducanu got all the hype for winning the open (and for being very good looking), but I think Fernandez will ultimately have a better career. Interestingly, I think Fernandez has the best swinging volley in the game, probably on both the men and women's tours. I don't think anyone hits it better. If she could figure out how to beef up her second serve a little, I think she could make another deep run at a slam. Especially on grass, where I think she's going to be really dangerous.
Leylah biggest problem is her drop shot. She overuse it, the height and position is bad, then she rushes to the net after the dropship. What the hell she is doing! She want to use her body to block the shot?
Not her body, her racquet. I've seen her successfully do it on at least two occasions (Kerber US Open 2021 and Bencic French Open 2022), but on those occasions her drop shot was not as bad as this match.
cool to see a woman less than 5'6" win some rounds - tennis seems to be dominated by giants now. very crafty ... will need a bit of work on the drop shots.

Fernandez is always fun to watch. Great energetic playstyle.

Good point. Cornet was not at her best, but perhaps because Leylah took it to her.
É please, you made my inner French twitch 🤣
This is a sharp win for Leylah. Cornet can be a troublesome foe. Leylah keeps looking to move forward and that's how she can win a slam.
Cornet can beat anybody if they are even slightly off. You only beat her with consistency, and determination… fortunately, Leylahs strengths…
Vamos Leylah!❤💥🍁🍁🍁💥❤
Cornet is a very difficult out...one of the most tenacious players in the game. Congrats to Leylah.
I like the handshake at the end!!! 😊
Too high quality for 1st round match
Really hope Leylah gets to the finals. Wishing her the best.
Such a warm embrace at the end, more guys on the ATP tour should do that..
you mean the wta? the men show warmth and humanity all the time, while the women are usually pretty cold.
@@DanielBoonelight lol what? looks like many girls reject you and here you are whining about it.

They played double together.

Good to see Leylah playing well!
Awesome!

Agreed. Leylah can win but Garcia is the better player.
It must be sweltering 🌞 ....Fernandez's tan is crazy! ⛱️

Cornet is a good sport... 👍👍👍
Fernandez is the speedy gonzales😂
Leylah, your talent is impeccable! Please have an open mind to consider Brad Gilbert as your future coach..

Go Leylah!
It’s a shame these two friends had to play so early 😢
❤
Ecuadorian-Filipino playing for Canadian team.
So, that makes her what nationality ?
@@bobturnbull18Canadian. Lord of mixed players playing for countries they grew up in. The diversity is great
@romel09ish Ask her parents why she is Ecuadorian-Filipino and not Canadian.

Leylah plays better this time, a solid performance against a veteran and skillful player, Cornet.
Solid win by Fernandez. Cornet looked like a granny on the court. She was already sucking wind during the 1st set.
@@jesuslovesmebut8180it’s more so the age thing. I don’t know why you have to shame her about food when you have no idea about her diet?
I really like Fernandez
Cornet's manner is great!
Congratulations Leyla 👏👏

Yes. A lot of work 🙂
Seems like she is reading her opponent better too.
The only thing that was not convincing about Leilah was her drop shot! That technique requires some fixing!
Wish more tennis players, male or female, played like Fernandez.
Well done Leylah!

Her drop shot is so bad omg 😮💨😮💨😮💨😮💨
Yeah, this 1:20 was terrible…
Hey Hey Hey.
Not yet. She needs more experience. Her win in the US open was pure luck.
Beautiful Canadian girl, eh
