    Wow!!!!! Leylah Fernandez went cruising right through Alizẽ Cornet with her power and speed. Way to go Leylah. Congratulations on that very impressive performance against a veteran player who eliminated Emma Raducanu on the first round of the WTA US Open last year. Looking great.

      Good point. Cornet was not at her best, but perhaps because Leylah took it to her.

    This is a sharp win for Leylah. Cornet can be a troublesome foe. Leylah keeps looking to move forward and that's how she can win a slam.

      Cornet can beat anybody if they are even slightly off. You only beat her with consistency, and determination… fortunately, Leylahs strengths…

    Fernandez is one of the few really watchable women's players, I can think of right now. I wish she will win a GS one day or failing that achieve a lot of consistent success in tournaments across her career.

    Things aren’t going to be easy for Leylah this tournament… up next? Caroline Garcia. They really want her to be a French obstacle so far… oddly it might get easier for a while if she can get past Garcia… personally though, I give the edge to Garcia.

    I love Fernandez's game. Raducanu got all the hype for winning the open (and for being very good looking), but I think Fernandez will ultimately have a better career. Interestingly, I think Fernandez has the best swinging volley in the game, probably on both the men and women's tours. I don't think anyone hits it better. If she could figure out how to beef up her second serve a little, I think she could make another deep run at a slam. Especially on grass, where I think she's going to be really dangerous.

    Leylah biggest problem is her drop shot. She overuse it, the height and position is bad, then she rushes to the net after the dropship. What the hell she is doing! She want to use her body to block the shot?

    • @JerryOtteman
      @JerryOtteman Год назад

      Not her body, her racquet. I've seen her successfully do it on at least two occasions (Kerber US Open 2021 and Bencic French Open 2022), but on those occasions her drop shot was not as bad as this match.
