6 minutes into this video... Today I played " Black Ink" Through my car stereo... Empathically playing on My Lap. The song is a Masterpiece; a studio 💎. Miss You Billy,
This show is the Gong!! Billy was one of the first drummers after Buddy Rich, where I instantly had to buy all the vinyls (even when i couldn't afford). Thanks again gentlemen!
Watching Billy Cobham ... at a performance ... Not seeing him but hearing him settle into his throne, a foot on the hi-hats, and another on the bass. Then hearing him doing perfect single-stroke rolls in 32nds. And all that before you can watch him. :)
What a privilege to watch these legends in awe of the The Big Cat Himself! Each one of these drummers are part of the legacy I had the honor of watching and learning from, the gen before me. I hope they all live forever because we know their music will! Sending Blessings and Light to all on the panel and to each of us who vow to carry their torches!
Wow love this podcast for so many reasons at 63 years old and a lifer as a drumming activist and relatives who knew the godfathers of the drum set and percussionist this whole cast and guess are just epic and the stories are special to the hearts for those who hear and those who lived it most of all everyone has Hope and for the ones who have Transcended are always remembered and never forgotten and many of them are not even drummers goes to show that everyone and everything is so important to us all and drummers really pick that up a very gifted gift ! Sports got in my way and it's funny today there identified as the same in it's practices and rewards but looking at these ages of these greats it's a easier road to take but than again it's debatable so just let the drums play it's music baby it's in the music and that's not a naybe
Cobham to Shrieve (on putting out vintage live recordings): "Who's gonna' buy 'em?" Are you kidding?!? I just finished watching the Beatles' "Get Back" and watching these 5 legendary cats together is the next best thing!
Got to hear Billy play with the Cobham/Duke Band in Atlanta in 1976. Mind blowing. In the mid 2000's, got to see him at Blues Alley in DC. I asked him between sets how he stayed in such good shape and he replied, "Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches" :)
PB&J's and Working Out ! Back in the early 80's a classmate of mine ran into The B.C. at King Arthurs Court - a gym back east in the states. She said he gave her an impromptu drum lesson using a machine spring as a stick ! - Cobham is the coolest.
I was just telling a buddy recently that Sly and The Family Stone at Madison Square Garden was my first major concert. I'm talking early 70s and Ruth Copeland was the opener. I remember being awed by the size of the Garden. By the way, Mahavishnu's version of The Noonward Race from the Mar Y Sol album is a must listen. Billy's drumming is absolutely impossible!!
He's right..those records and those shows, besides being a total blast....are my education...I try to pass this on...even tho' I'm completely off the radar!!
Billy Cobham is such a great drumming Legend and host! With my favorite all star drumming heroes asking their fav questions! This is required viewing for all drummers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much guys, what a great show!!! Thank you all for the music over the years too!!!
Billy's story about his dad Manuel getting Billy to play in front of Manuel's hang out buddy Specs Powell (Specs was the first black staff musician hired by CBS in 1943), reminds me of how John Blackwell Jnr told me about how his father "Pocket Man" asked Billy to teach John drums. I wonder if there are some more pure gold anecdotes along those lines for you guys to unearth in your other interviews. Those hidden networks make wonderful back stories.
“it doesn’t matter. But we’re gonna put them out.” I wish more people thought this way.
This is gold!

Perhaps I missed it but I would have loved to hear about Billy's time with Horace Silver in the late 1960s.

Fantastic show! 👌🏿❤️
Greetings from Uganda 🇺🇬👊🏿
Cats! Amazing to see this! :)
Someone pinch me, because I must be dreaming..
After playing thousands of gigs I don’t understand how these top musicians can remember the venues and events they played 30 and 40 years ago.
The druggies were usually the guitarists. The drummers had to stay straight in order to hold things together.
@@dadduorp Right it must be something, because the guys can remember so many places they played like it was a few days ago.
Or hear anymore!
Anyone knows what cassette recorder they are talking about? Brand name? T-130?
😍😍😍💪
