Bro, when you're in front of even 500 ppl, mediocre jokes can get enough laughs to sound like it's really hitting. Remember even when a comic is killing about 50% is laughing. You get to 60-70% that's legendary bits. Medium funny stuff (the majority of jokes in most special is 25-30% laughing) So if u get to a theater level where 1) Ppl coming to see YOU, cause you're name is on the marquee. 2) In order to even get to theater level, you're funny enough to be in the top 1% of comics. Then yeah u can get by without working out stuff. Cause even jokes that kinda bomb will still get 10% of the crowd laughing. (And worse comes to worse, if a joke really flatlines, u can cut it out so a TV audience never sees it)
