0:34-0:41 was some hella impressive filming. I am definitely digging how the clips cut to match the movements and tricks of the skaters in such a way that it makes them feel connected. Cool stuff.
One of the best skate videos ive seen lately and i see them a lot. Great Skaters and crushing soundtrack. Huge part of skateboarding job is done well, you are guys on the good way.
I love this video It's not just a dope concept but the team is sick and the soundtrack is so ill. and Tyler Surrey is one of the most under appreciated street skaters out there. dude's board control is ridiculous. get goosebumps whenever I watch homie skate
At first I was like "New Balance is in skating?" But then I watched the video. The description here is on point. The filming is fantastic and the editing is some of the best, most creative I have seen. The way this was put together really works and makes me feel better about New Balance coming into skating.
AWESOME fucking video. I'll say like a few others have, I don't support sport companies entering the skate industry but I can appreciate the skating and editing for what it is. Doesn't matter what company released a video like this, there's a lot to appreciate here. But remember...skateboarding is not a sport and will never be a sport. X Games and Street League gives the illusion that it is and turns it into one-dimensional tunnel vision skating but it's nothing to lose sleep over. Skating is free to be whatever you want it to be and it's just about you and your board. You create all you want and there are no rules or competition.
I know a lot will disagree with me but I think by saying it's not a sport, at least at some aspects gives into a sort of tunnel vision in of itself. Like you say skating is free to be whatever you want it to be and there is an aspect that is sport that a certain amount of people like and should not be totally discounted because it' confines skating to points and a contest that has boundaries. I think I could go on for five pages in my feelings of what constitutes the pureness of skating and the more complex I think the relationship between the contests, corporate sponsorships, individuality and what skating at its core should go but I'll try to keep it as short as possible. I get the bad connotations of 'sport' connected to skating and why the majority, including me would object an a non skater telling us we do a sport, when we don't compete and just ride whatever, wherever we want. During my high school years I lived and breathed skating and for another ten years after I'm still in it. I also did play many jr and hs sports until I decided I loved skating more and couldn't commit full time to both. There are some stark similarities between both in terms of the mental aspects of pushing yourself and literally getting up time and time again after being knocked down. The bond of close friends skating, going on skate trips is so close in relation to the bond of a team sport in various ways. There's not freedom on a team but I loved that I was pushed to my limit in something I enjoyed within the constraints of those boundaries. I think what I'm getting at is I feel a lot of skaters see sport thrown in and think of the rules, the restrictions or being on a team and not an individual without having played a lot of sports themselves or hated playing and never found the positives I did in them. It does just come down to you and your board, free to create whatever you wish and hope people at least see it from my perspective. This was a pretty good video and reminded me somewhat of girls yeah right montage of skaters skating the board that went on its own from place to place.
bobkilla430 I can see what you mean man, but I don't consider claiming it as not a sport as one-dimensional in itself. Declaring it not a sport is keeping it free with no boundaries within the laws of physics of course. Sports contain boundaries and rules, and skateboarding has none of those. Sure, turning it into a competition once in awhile is a fun thing to do especially if you're good enough to make money at it. But imagine if it was a competition all the time and was a full-time sport, you would need to breathe man. Skateboarders would have been over it. It's just like surfing but on pavement. Not to get all hippie dippie, but ya just flow and get creative. There is nothing holding you down from evolving on a board.
What i know is that the video was awesome, not only bc of the transitions, but the music fits perfectly, it's actually really beautiful in combination with the skateboarding, so big ups to NB!
I wanna big up puma, new balance, and nike as these were completley oblivious too this art we call skateboarding thanks......you make this black man richer!!!
next level editing for sure this video is amazing, i wasnt ready for a whole black and white video but then i realized i shoould just watch it hahha and then i realized the editing is perfect this is so cool
No clue what you guys are talking about, this edit was great. No need to bash New Balance. Half you kids don't even deserve to ride skateboards, go do something else with your lives.
Yes. Meaning some of these kids ruin the sport. Like those kids bashing this video? Yea, you're entitled to your own opinion, but be fucking serious about it. This edit was sick. Most of these kids are jst grossed about the fact that "New Balance" made a skate video. Fuck outta here with that bullshit. And Mathew, the way you thought about my comment wasn't the way it was intended. You seem worried about people's freedom. I'm jst saying, have a passion or get the fuck out. See what im sayinnnn?
Luis Garcia The fact you called skateboarding a sport made you look like a dickhole. It's an art form, you don't stop kids doing art because they like a different pencil to you do you?
***** You're a moron. /.- Call it what you will, there is no wrong in calling it a sport, look up the fucking definition. You guys miss my point completely, i give up trying to talk to a bunch of idiots.
I can't explain how enjoyable this video was! I don't comment on videos very often this is pure skating filming and editing genius at work! this part reminds me of rattray's part in the zero cold war! Excellent video!
New balance is one of the realest companies out there. Not only that but Black box distribution is doing most of the work for them. If you don't like Jamie Thomas, you can GTFO
Im not necessarily hyped to see new balance in skating but it seems like they are headed in the right direction, how could you go wrong with a team stacked like this anyways
The filming and editing style in this video was refreshingly impressive. I'm glad I've never seen a video edited like this before, because it would get irritating but in this case it was unique and had a really gnarly vibe. Good work new balance.
came here for the arto and pj ladd clips, glad to see new balance enter skateboarding, pj ladd appraises them so I'll trust his judgment. Albeit isn't skate owned, they still put skaters around the world and film with them. All of their shoes are also made in the usa. Unlike Nike, made in indonesia where they pay people like 50 cents per hour. Jews
People forget the Vans and DC who are apart of big umbrella companies and are also not Core Skate brands. You can not really hate on New balance unless you are wearing core skate brands like dekline, lakai, emerica, etc.(some of only true core brands). Otherwise you are just being hypocritical. This idea of "core" skateboarding is ridiculous in the skate shoe industry and half the people that probably hated on this have probably bought a pair of janoskis( or any nike for that matter) adidas or converse.
I can't speak about DC, but Vans is most DEFINITELY a core skate company. It was founded by skateboarders for skateboarders. Sure, it's gone from two dudes making them in a basement or whatever, to now factories overseas make them but unfortunately that's how most companies work in the present day. And you are right that Dekline, Lakai, and Emerica are core skate companies indeed. But Vans are definitely the original. Look at how many shoe companies are inspired by and try to create new skool shoes based off of legendary Vans like the Era and Half Cab. You see the same basic shape and concept in most other skate companies - core or not. All thanks to Vans. The idea of supporting core skate brands is not ridiculous at all, it's respectable to say the least. Some people just don't let trends and fashion get in the way of their personal values.
BUT Vans is fucking owned by VF Corp which doesn't give a shit about skateboarding. I'm not so interested in buying Vans anymore due to this, so I'm going between Emerica and Lakai right now. I've never skated Lakai's so I'm not sure how long they'll last. You ever skated em?

um, no dude. i've been skating for over 15 years now, and back in the day pretty much all the companies in skateboarding were founded and owned by skaters. skateboarding was nowhere as big as today and there wasn't too much money to make, so companies like nike etc. didn't give a shit about it. once the big boom started nike smelled the cash and tried to get a piece. most skaters were against them and consolidated even had an anti nike campaign ('don't do it'). but over the years nike got in and that was pretty much the start of the bullshit we deal with now: they made some of the best dudes like p rod offers they coulnd't refuse, and kids nowadays don't know this and grow up thinking nike is a skatebrand and shit like asphalt yacht club parties with paris hilton are what 'pro skateboarding' is about . you got a point with the sweatshop thing, and i'm well aware that vans isn't run by two dudes in a basemant either, but at least it was all skaters back then, you know what i mean? nike, converse, new balance etc. will eventually make it impossible for a bunch of skate buddies to establish a succesfull (shoe) company, cuz they can't compete. i never owned a pair of nike sb's in my life and, at least for me, nike will NEVER BE skateboarding.

Es went out of business because they ran out of money. Adios went out of business because they got rid off all their team. they where not put out my these companies
New Balance making a comeback. They chose the right industry, every time I see the variety of skaters with a certain style, everybody else tend to pick it up (nikeSB[Janoski's], rolled up pants, etc.)
the transitional editing was a very great way to create there video. but its too damn repetitive and no one likes the same monotonous thing over and over again
Great filming and AMAZING edits created this video. Congrats to the filmers and editor on this project. The Black and White adds believability(?) to the video. somehow. Nice.
Guys we should all at least help NB. I know the shoes are ugly, but look at the filming, editing, and skating. It's mind blowing! We should all at least one product of theirs. Just my thoughts
Great filming. Great editing. Great skating. I love it!
0:34-0:41 was some hella impressive filming. I am definitely digging how the clips cut to match the movements and tricks of the skaters in such a way that it makes them feel connected. Cool stuff.

These guys are doing some cool skating! Relaxed but surprising at times. The kind of skating that makes you smile and go "I'm going skating, damn it!"
The transitions are so smooth.
"smooth" is an understatement :)
This video was really refreshing to watch, also Tyler Surrey is a beast!
I love this video
It's not just a dope concept but the team is sick and the soundtrack is so ill.
and Tyler Surrey is one of the most under appreciated street skaters out there. dude's board control is ridiculous. get goosebumps whenever I watch homie skate
This video needs more recognition, it's truly amazing.
Filming lines from in front of the skater is a accomplishment in itself. Awsome video this 1. Props

It's as much a sport as golf. Leave it at that.

Best comment i ever read
cris lamont best comment ever
What i know is that the video was awesome, not only bc of the transitions, but the music fits perfectly, it's actually really beautiful in combination with the skateboarding, so big ups to NB!
Thinking about the complex plaining of this. The tricks, spots, skaters....blows my mind
The rest of the world could learn something. Skateboarding is gnarly and the filimg/editing of this video are some of the best I've ever seen.
always good to see something original when it comes to skateboard editing style
I never get tired of watching this :)
Creative idea with next level riding! Job well done
hyped to see most of this was filmed in Vancouver
figvk
figvk
That's funny though because PJ Ladd and new balance are Boston based.
The filming & editing is awesome, and the spots they filmed at are supreme!
Very nice little vid!
man....best part I've seen in years! Killer filming
This is some amazing skating and editing, but I gotta say that the filmers are absolutely fantastic. Big up!
The filming was incredible, but especially at 0:34 I really lost my shit.
I wanna big up puma, new balance, and nike as these were completley oblivious too this art we call skateboarding thanks......you make this black man richer!!!
what a long line hahaha
awesome edit, and lovely instrumentals, specially the first
next level editing for sure this video is amazing, i wasnt ready for a whole black and white video but then i realized i shoould just watch it hahha and then i realized the editing is perfect this is so cool
Such great filmin and editing!
filming and editing geniuses. Beautiful piece of art as well as skating.
No clue what you guys are talking about, this edit was great. No need to bash New Balance. Half you kids don't even deserve to ride skateboards, go do something else with your lives.
"Don't even deserve to ride skateboards." What kind of bullshit comment is that? If someone wants to skate, let them skate. No harm done to you.
Yes. Meaning some of these kids ruin the sport. Like those kids bashing this video? Yea, you're entitled to your own opinion, but be fucking serious about it. This edit was sick. Kids? You're like 17 lmao
Amazing idea and execution of the edit. Great skating, brilliant edit
I wasn't too hyped on new balance coming into skateboarding, but after watching this video they seem pretty solid
Luke Senerchia what does gtfo stand for?
This is easily the greatest filming of all time.
Im not necessarily hyped to see new balance in skating but it seems like they are headed in the right direction, how could you go wrong with a team stacked like this anyways
Filming is AMAZING!!! The transitions are so smooth, and watching the skater do tricks from the front is pretty awesome.
the filming is fucking awesome
So impressive n expressive, seems like a street waterfall, love it.
these transitions were amazing
everything about this is so cool and timeless
awesome editing
The filming and editing style in this video was refreshingly impressive. I'm glad I've never seen a video edited like this before, because it would get irritating but in this case it was unique and had a really gnarly vibe. Good work new balance.
Any chance to get a track list for this video?
This was one of the best edits I've ever seen.
113 people must be stupid or out of their mind this is sick guy great job
never thought id see new balance entering the skate game, but one hell of a video (amazing editing, best i have ever seen)
line at 0:34 was filmed by the same filmer from skate 3
I was thinking the same thing. Probably my favorite part of the whole video.
this video probably is one of my all time favorite skate vids..sick filming
Wanna skate i think like you BEST skate motivation video ever
just when you thought skate videos had overused all the standard videography tricks...
foreal! its so basic. it looks cool for a while but after 7 minutes of it, it gets kind of repetitive
This was incredibly filmed.. And edited. Such sick transitions!
I assume every time they made a transition the former skater didn't land the trick...
Very good filmer(s) and lovely editing. High Quality Art

and skating of course!

Anon Ymous Lakai's last long and they skate very nice
I love how the company just started off in the skating world and they already have what seems to be some of the best filmers in skateboarding
Music this video?
love these transitions between each clip, so well thought out.
New Balance has just as much right as anybody else to make skate shoes. Skaters all talk so righteous while wearing nikes and shoes and clothes made in sweat shops and by huge corporations. I've been skating since 1984 and I still skate street today.. im 38 and I'm not retiring into bowls and shit, I skate hard in the streets. But I've been around and I've seen the changes and you are right, there were more skater owned companies but that is only because skating was smaller then. But I also remember seeing Hosoi and Gator all up in McDonalds commercials and shit and when you started in the late 90's is when it really blew up. All im saying is that this is nothing new and skating isn't sacred any more. It never really was and to say it was is to live in the past when the skate population was small. If anything it just brings more money into the industry as a whole and we have to just be okay with it because what is the alternative? We aren't righteous enough to make a stand together. And I say fuck it, if skaters can have a job and get paid by New Balance, then go get your checks. These are just my opinions though.. everyone is entitled to their opinion.
Really cool idea and excellent skating. Double like
seems like people are more stoked on the filming+editing in this, rather than the skateboarding. maybe New Balance should make a camera instead
Thats probably because every skate video is the same as the last in both the filming and the skating. This has creative skating and creative filming.
this video is really inspirational. one of the smoothest i've ever seen
HAHA that black dude with the beard looks soooo much like jon jones, its crazy, i seriously couldent spot a difference in the face.
His name is Marquis Henry :)
i don't know if this is skate video perfection but i literally couldn't look away the entire video
this is so...Vancouver
hands down still one of the best skate videos ever made after this video im always hyped to go skate
Excellent fucking video!!!
I was very skeptical, but man this was cool, bit of an oldschool feel to it, the skating was good, and the edit... oh man, I love what they did with the edit!
Neat
that was absolutely the most beautiful edit ever.
new balances filmers are on point but new balance should stop making skate shoes because its companies like this that put es out of buisness (but their filmers and editors can stay)
Yeah, the editing is maybe too much, but its always good to see something different and even better if it is not from the biggest teams or companies!
Love it!
New Balance makes skateshoes?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
This has to be the best skate filming up to this day
It's really not that hard to edit like this. New Balance isn't the first to do this...
ya, but adding the sick filming, not that simple
Leonardo SEP True, but if you have a high quality handle, and perfect weights to attatch to it. anyone can be a good filmer.
TTGUOTRWfilms u dont need weights lol how many filmers would care about that loool
rhymezgalore
Weights add stability to the camera dumbass.
rhymezgalore
Nothing you said in that comment made sense.
some of the coolest filming and editing I've seen
I was super hyped to see New balance enter the skate scene but after buying a pair of their shoes i realized they are total trash. If you wanna rock the big money skate brands stick to adidas and nike, way more solid of a shoe.

***** The irony is killing me.
4nus you are a fucking
I cant imagine the timing and process it took to film this, not to mention the editing as well. Great job
Really?! First Nike, then Addidas, now New balance!? are you fucking kidding me?! KEEP TRACK SHOES OUT OF SKATEBOARDING! It's shit like this that is ruining skateboarding, these large companies are taking over and putting companies like Es and Adio out of business.
Um yeah honestly I prefer New Balance, Nike, and Adidas shoes over both Es and Adio sooo...
dude new balance makes some of the most comfortable shoes ever and now that they made a skating shoe....imagine how sick that shoe must be
Es went out of business because they ran out of money. Adios went out of business because they got rid off all their team. they where not put out my these companies
therefore making better quality and better looking shoes. I dunno what you're complaining about mate. The puffy shoe look is so 2001.
moises guerrero But just imagine how ugly they are
Filming was amazing, editing was on point, they sesh the hell out of spots, clean tricks, omfg
i know this is a popular editing idea. but fuck nb. they completely copied following kyle. ill bet "the first narrows" is following kyle.
Really creative use of bailed lines! Truly awesome, not sarcastically.
I love the way it was edited!
Great filming and AMAZING edits created this video. Congrats to the filmers and editor on this project. The Black and White adds believability(?) to the video. somehow. Nice.

We should all recognize how sick it is that Joe Pease filmed part of this. Props to him for bridging the gap from skater to filmer.
