If sherlock's attitude is mostly doing the job of creating this ship, the way William act around him kinda create it too because he allow himself to have some fun outside his plan as he'll say it later. /!\ Season 2 show us that they won't kill each other, even though William fear it and they fight a lot. And it's most likely the opposite that happen because Sherly just jump from a f bridge to save William. (3:53) And when sherlock read the letter, William will say it himself that he consider him as a friend. (3:06) They are enemies but in the same time, only them can understand and help each other.

Sherlock when he learned William was the lord of crime, went out of his way to save William from dying. They never hated each other, and were only rivals because one is a criminal and the other a detective. Also the manga had Sherlock blushing everytime he saw William, had them end up moving in together, taking vows, and becoming basically a married couple.
