Just installed this today... works great ! I have a 2015 double cab Tacoma. Wiring was easy and install went smooth. Blue wire goes to blue/black and Green goes to blue/red. I have one comment on this video though, I would suggest not running the wires the way he did. If the zip ties break your wire is going to hang low and possibly get damaged. I followed the existing wire runs closer to the body of the truck. If you use a basic fish tape to get over the gas tank you can be done in less than 2 min. I also brought my wire in under the driver seat through an existing grommet, use a coat hanger or in my case a 14 gage ground wire i found in my garage to feed the wire through. you are going to need to unravel the water resistant tape, but other than that nothing too crazy HOPE THIS HELPS GUYS !
Did this on my 2009 Tacoma. Worked great, just make sure when your are running the harness through the engine compartment you run it UNDER all the other wires and components, otherwise you might end up having to pull it out of the cab to re-run it, not that I did that....Great tutorial!

Just installed yesterday! Now the bed is useful space. Only thing is I forgot to put the plastic bed liner on before I bolted it down and made twice as much work for myself. But who cares i had fun.
Thanks for the video! One note - I was terrified of breaking the plastic connector for the rod in the tailgate (done it before in another vehicle). I simply used a ratcheted box wrench to remove and install that 10MM bolt. That way I didn't need to remove the rod.
Just did this on my 2015 Tacoma trd sport, works like advertised. The metal arm and bracket that the solenoid pushes squeaks a bit, probably would’ve been ideal for them to be made out of brass rather than stainless.. figuring that it’ll wear down a bit over time and hopefully make the squeak stop. If not I’ll pop the tailgate open again some day and maybe put some Teflon in the spots it’s squeaking , idk 🤷♂️
Blue to blue black for me. Also, had to go through the grommet under the drivers floorboard because the provided wire wasn’t long enough to reach from the wiring harness at the fire wall. If anyone ever cares to splice like.. 2 more feet to the wire, you could go through a hole that’s a few inches above the wire harness grommet , slightly behind the brake booster that isn’t occupied, just gotta poke a hole into the thin carpet, drill a hole in the small plastic grommet. That’s what I wanted to do but didn’t have enough wire length to reach. Also debating looking into finding a completely different solenoid to upgrade with, for now I’ll see how this one lasts.
Good info; however, without knowing if the 2015 color code is the same, I might wind up splicing into something unintended and have the Tacoma drive down the road rather than just lock and unlock the door/tailgate. Thanks in advance.
Couldn't a thief disconnect the coupling at 2:46 and then use a battery and/or jumper of some kind to open the lock? I mean it's just exposed down there. Can you pull it back into the tailgate after you have it connected?
Just installed the PL8525 on a 2013 Access cab Tacoma. Lots of blue wires but none with black or red stripes. Anyone else had this issue or have a solution?

my 2015 access cab trd off road does not have a blue/red and blue/black...i did the rest of the install but had to leave the wire i pulled from the tailgate couiled up under the carpet. Very unimpressed with the "instructions" provided by pop and lock. I would never recommend their product based on how poor they are but they seem to be the only one manufacturing these locks.

GREAT supplement to the very sketchy instructions that come with the Pop & Lock. Got mine successfully and neatly installed in about 2 hours.

@1:50. I had to use my grinder on the bracket to make it sit flush with the surface of the tailgate. Great product. Works quite good.

Did this to my 2016 , anyway to just put a switch inside the cab to control the lock? I'd hate the lock being used 30 times a day with my job.

There is a grommet under the driver side by the B pillar to go up.

How would I do this on an Access Cab truck? The B pillar is on the rear door instead of fixed....

If I add this to my truck and some how that lock motor fails in the lock position with a bed cover on and locked what will I do?
I contacted Pop & Lock and they told me unless you have key access on you tailgate there is no way to unlock the tailgate.
rustler1982 It's is possible. It happened to me. I'll make a video soon on how to do so.
I installed their key handle works with the ignition key no wires easy ten minutes later done.
If you take the drivers seat out, you can go up through the rubber grommet located underneath the seat.

if the tailgate is closed and you lock it and the motor fails to unlock it how do you get it open.
Your key still works like normal.
