Falling Bash - High DPS 3:07 Slash Combo - Best for raw with high elemental 5:20 Blade Waltz Combo - Focuses elemental more than raw 7:53 Legacy Combo - Bread and Butter, able to maintain position but lower DPS 9:30
As an old school SnS player, I never liked World's SnS because it felt weak to and too unga bunga heavy, but now I see that I was using the wrong combos and World SnS feels a lot better now. This video helped a lot.
Glad they worked with you. I've personally learned a lot about my favorite weapon (SnS duh) watching your stuff. Was hoping they would have you involved when this came around.
Sns is my most favorite weapon so you're huge inspiration for me, MaestroNox! I saw your video naked against Tigrex, that was very impressive. That made me realize that you are actually not using skill to increase evade window. If anything I would love learn how to dodge monster's attacks with perfect timing as you do.
For those wondering, DPS from perfect rush is higher than Bash (both elemental and raw), but doesn't flow into anything. I usually use it as a finisher.
PR is always best when getting an opening. PR into roll before last hit into PR for large ones. Outside from that the best flow is just trying to dodge with backsteps into PR into roll if needed, rinse and repeat
So world is my first MH game, I have over a thousand hours logged between xbone and ps4 and from both of them, I have less than 50 hunts with sns I think. Until now, it’s just kind seemed like an alien weapon to me since I couldn’t find much about how to use the weapon effectively except just “spam the falling bash until it’s dead.” This video has quickly become one of my favorite videos regarding this game and I hope this becomes a series for all the weapons. Y’all are the best Channel on this platform that posts MH content, please keep them coming!!
I realize I'm super late to the party on these but an obsession with numbers in games brought me to the channel. I wish there were videos like this on the rest of the weapons with this same focus on the math behind it. Also as someone who loves wordplay, Mathalos is a gem of a title.
Finally a Video that gives SnS some credit and love. SnS is my first Weapon Choice in every Monster Hunter which none of my friends understands. This Video will explain it to them better than I ever could do. Thank you for the Video and Thank you for the "Unga Bunga Combo" -Name. I'll shout it everytime I'm going to perform it from now on. XD
Finally! I've used SnS since release and a friend who played SnS in previous games SWORE that the Triangle+Circle combo while changing direction was the highest DPS combo. Thank you for really solidifying each and every combo in terms of efficacy. Hopefully this means I can get top DPS every now and then for hunts now :D Surprised you guys didn't talk about Advancing Slash > Jumpable Wall. I'm fairly certain that's the most damaging thing you can do with SnS in general when applicable, no?
I would say it’s best for elemental SnS and the fact that you can mount with it hampers dps potential, as well as the fact it is extremely situational, can easily miss hitzones, and is not allowed in TA rules.
@@spartacus6256 This message in its entirety is so fucked not only is the message making little sense but the reply is older than the first message.. wtf youtube
Woo!! I'm glad that I'm aware of and use these combos in the right way!! Super cool to see this. Cannot WAIT for the meta sets to start arriving, kjarr and craftable!!
One thing worth adding is, when slashing, you typically want to use as little spiral slash as possible. Spiral slash is a great combo extender but has absolutely atrocious dps. If you know your opening is longer than triple circle attacks, it's often better to extend the combo with light attacks at the beginning or extending with fall bash at the end, depending on your opening, raw/elemental ratio, and monster hit zone values.
Bonus tip for mounting monsters. Once you get to the finisher attack you can hit the monster twice and then use the button for bracing to reset it, allowing you to hit the monster twice again, rinse and repeat. It is one of the easiest, albeit kind of cheesy way to get a free knockout and a good amount of damage on a monster.
From a Boom Lance main here, while gaurding hold L2 to lock your camera. Once you can do this pretty quick just do it and then press back and circle to always correctly do the back hop.
Just restarted the game because circumstances and decided I would go all SnS. I always wanted to use it but was too attached to other weapons. Have loved it so far and after watching this I feel like dropping everything to get back into it! Thanks 😄
SWEET! I was hoping for this! As a new hunter (MHW is my first MH game) and after falling in love with the SnS about 200 hours ago, I was still struggling with the combos, this helps a lot!
Thank you for doing this!! I’m a dedicated SNS user, and I tend to focus on the first (bash, obviously) and the third slashing combos almost exclusively. I find it hard not to inadvertently shield hit with the 2nd combo, and between slashing for element application, then quick positioning/evasion into failing bash when the opportunity presents, I can get into a good rhythm. Some monsters (like Luna’s wings when she KOs) really favor slashing over the bash combo. Ppl look down on SNS but I’m not great at games and can solo most of the AT elders sub 20 minutes, usually with zero carts. It’s the most flexible weapon IMO, particularly for solo hunters. Hopeful Iceborne’s new slash combo makes elemental even more viable :)
Great video, very informative and the background footage is awesome. MaestroNox is amazing with SnS. Can't wait to see the meta sets videos, keep it up boys.
Cuenta Alterna I use it all the time And it usually knocks a monster down when I use it. It’s so satisfying just hitting a monster in the face with that shield 🛡
Finally found the video that proved my theory about elements SnS vs non elemental SnS. I couldn’t do the rushing mounting attack with elemental sword and shields not matter how many times I tried
Plz note that the falling bash spam does 5 hits. The initial forward leap is a 2 part attack. The first half of the leap itself does impact dmg and then you swing downward with the sword. Most ppl don’t realize this because it’s difficult to land and usually moreso problematic to try to position for it. I think honey hunter also has this listed incorrectly.
Fantastic compilation of information. This very much reminds me of Arrekz' videos from early early early MHW life where he posted the "how to" guides for all the weapons, in both quality and information presentation.
Thank you for this! I knew it had to be more complicated than just spamming falling bash - which doesn’t work so well because the monsters are moving and roars and . . . geometry. Will practice these and up my numbers.
Tuna & Jinx! Before you guys do the max deeps sets, please take a look at the Razor Sharp sets! Long story short, if you do a balls to the walls 100% Affinity with Agi 5, Peak 3 with Styx, you can get 490 EFR! You cannot get this with the Drachen set!
So damn satisfying just watching Nergigante get his tail whipped by S&S so damn easily. I'm still nervous about fighting that thing because his omni-hitboxes.
Thank you for this, I'll try some of these combos out. For me, it felt that the S&S simply didn't have the "umph" I want when it came to damage, although I like it's speed & defense.
I'll admit, I really did think that the Falling Bash combo was the only one that was truly optimal at all times. Thank you for educating me haha. I still think that for varieties sake the motion values should be nerfed for that attack (or all other attacks buffed), but the stun value either stays the same or gets buffed. Something just rubs me the wrong way when such a simple SNS combo of all things gets heavy stun AND long abusable i-frames. Not to mention the air time which makes it even safer a lot of the time.
the thing that bothers me about the triangle+ triangle+ triangle +circle+circle+circle is that i allways end up doing the shield and thats because im used to push myself to the monster

Hey guys, love your work and your humour ! love you ! I have hard time to see the difference beetween legacy and Slash combo, Legacy is the slash with minus a RoundSlash ? What about the slashing moove after any attack triangle + cercle, what is its use ? its basicly a RoundSlash :)
THANKS A LOT Has an SNS main who used to play on the Wii (MH : Trii) I was having quite a hard time figuring out why my main (and moslty only) weapon was feeling so off. I couldn't put my finger on anything other than the fact that the bread and butter combo was just ... not working anymore for some reason. Man ... all those shield bash I did... will the SNS god EVER FORGIVE?
Aw yes. The good old way of making something simple something way more confusing. But I'm pretty sure what you said is "just spam triangle, left stick, and circle lol"
Somehow I struggle putting out the spiral slash (directional + triangle). 50% of the time it goes circle + circle + circle *end* triangle (chop) even trough I defenetly hit the left stuck in a direction. Is the any trick to it I might not now?
Anyway do you guys know that you can Press Roll -> cancel into Back Hop --> Charged slash ---> Falling Bash ? sometime i closed my distance using roll forward and i charged slash + falling bash :)
I absolutely adore this guide. If you were to supplement it, or make it more newbie friendly though; I think the best way to do it would simply be to make it a guide about learning the right moments to cancel through the Spiral Slash. Since, it even cancels out the dreaded SnS combo if the player mashes the directional input too quickly to cancel into the next string. Once that's mastered, the rest becomes about learning that timing to cancel out unwanted shield bashes and overheads (they have their place- but are goal oriented for finishing KOs or cutting tails- but never as mainstays) when they aren't wanted without having to roll. Tbh, I feel like that has a higher overall impact on juicing the most out of the SnS's pokes and strings (as opposed to the more advanced principles tackled in this video about getting all of the extra Thrust chips. The Waltz Combo is probably easiest to practice as "Light, Light, Reset" Even though the full string can be "Light, Light, Rest, Light Light, Light, Reset, Light, Light, Light, Reset" but "Waltzing" on the 3 count for practice helps someone develop the muscle memory to know when they can reset with the Spiral Slash. Since it only starts as a Waltz, and then returns to even meter. However, practicing it as a Waltz for both Light and Heavy combos and learning to reset on the 3-count as habit opens the doors to how fluid the SnS can be when building strings- optimized, or just with enough resets to be efficient.) Newer players tend to struggle with the idea of creating animation rotations- and mastering the Spiral Slash ties that down as a concept, and getting more clever strings out of your SnS at the same time.

From my own testing, evade extender 3 on sns back hop activates an EZ farcaster and brings you back to camp.
Does it launch you forward the same distance when you go for the hit after the hop?
Evade extender on backhop is low-key the BLJ from Super Mario 64
