They were only between 16-20 years old and this song was a challenge put forth by JYP on their road to become a group. The talent at such a young age for Bang Chan to pick these members, write the song and beat, create the name and logo, before they even debuted and not even knowing if they would succeed all together(which they almost didn't because Felix & Lee Know were cut initially) is mind boggling. Lee Know created the choreography for this video too. Definitely want to check out Stray Kids Survival Show. Be prepared to shed some tears though.
First things first Hellavator was actually their predebut song and for a pre debut it still amazes me to this day and it was BangChan that wrote the beat to this song. Now this was the first ever SKZ song I ever listened to and it qas during this song Felix caught my ear with his deep ass voice and that was wen I fell I love with and he became my bias, also the lyrics of this song are sad but then the beat goes hard which I love and their choreo is on point like always
You grasped the meaning of the lyrics very well. This song was one of the "performance tests" during the 2017 survival show through which the group was formed. They had to produce a song from beginning to end, and this is what those kids came up with. I think it describes what they were feeling and going through at the time. The show was their opportunity to succeed as a group, but there was uncertainty they would even make it, and they constantly heard what they did wrong, what they had to improve, etc. publicly. It must have felt like hell. The show is one of the reasons why they became so close to each other. In this show they were not competing against each other to survive but were each other's support and comfort to survive as a unit.
For a better understanding of the lyrics , you have to know, at least, some thing about the life of trainees in kpop and watch the survival show ( it has the same name: stray kids. it is on youtube). It is the first track in the survival show . Is completely composed by 3racha. At the moment of filming this video, Lee Know was eliminated. Not giving any more spoilers . Prepare to become emotional. They speak about their desire to debute ( all 9 , at that time . Woojin left the group in octobre 2019 , for "personal reasons ". It 's not been disclosed the true reason.). Edit: i have seen that people have requested Silent Cry . Please watch first Secret Secret, composed by Han ( it has severe social anxiety and it describes his emotions). Silent Cri is member's respons to it. Watch 24 to 25 next and Christmas Evel , because is almost Christmas.
Yeah. For a predebut song, this is powerful. The lyrics are especially hard hitting. Most of them were written by Chan & the rest of 3Racha. Considering that Chan had spent 7 years training, and far from his family in Australia, he was indeed in a dark place. Hyunjin's lines about people saying to give up his dreams hits home too. He had been scouted on the street just because he was pretty. When he started training, he had NO skills. He couldn't sing, rap, or dance. When he finally found a passion for dance, everyone kept saying he should just give up on that and only rely on his looks. Han was a very talented rapper, but he was constantly being told to stick to rapping, don't be a singer. When Felix first joined, he too was scouted off the streets, and he had to convince his parents that he should follow his dream in Korea. He had basic Korean, because being born & raised in Australia left little need to speak it. So he went through so much just learning a second language, AND the different customs that just aren't taught anywhere else. When this song was made, they weren't even guaranteed to be able to debut. This was their very first mission as a newly formed team. (They didn't even all get along at that point. There were multiple clashes that weren't televised by the survival show they were on. We only found out about them during sit-down chats they had after a year after debut & more) They were told "Here! Come up with a song. Make the music. Write the lyrics. Come up with the choreography. Shoot a video. You have two weeks. Good Luck. You will be graded on EVERYTHING." At that point, Chan was the second oldest (Woojin was a few months older than him, but Chan was the leader) and only 20 (21 Korean age. They count you as one when you are born. You get a year added to your age in Janurary regardless of your actual birthday.) and he had to organize everything. It was rough. If you look at the Album Mixtape, it is all songs made during the survival show & their training. So yeah. Most of it was dark, and angry. But also hopeful.
Hellevator was their predebut single ☺️ I still love it and it holds a special place for me It talks about their way and struggles as a group, they got a lot of backlash They did a survival show to debut together and JYP almost eliminated two of the members, it was a really intense and emotional time for them I love your analysis every time and I think you are really good at grasping the meaning of each video! 🥰
@@rebeccavillebro2718 yes it's so impressive how they come up with these things and self produce almost everything! I would recommend reacting to a more detailed guide of them, all the members amaze me every time 🥰
I think this one in particular is one of those songs where you have to stop and read and understand the lyrics. For me it is one of the most meaningful songs of the band, considering that at that time they had just started. They deserve a lot, not only as artists, but as people. Their work is incredible and they do everything for their fans, they are true idols. As always a very good reflection of the video, I love that new fans discover the meaning of songs like this.
This is such an emotional jam and is their first pre debut song! Stray Kids Just announced their 1st Japanese album feb 22 2023. Can you please react to the trailer!?
I notice that sometimes when you watch some of their older song that sometimes you see a member who you don’t recognise so I hope this helps 😊. There are currently 8 members of stray kids(Bangchan,Leenknow,Chanbin,Hyunjin,Han,Felix,Seungmin and I.N) but a couple of years ago they had a 9th member (Woojin) who left their group dew to private reasons.
Oh yey! Im so glad i found a fellow scandinavian that are willing to listen to Skz! We are unfortunatly so very rare haha.. Love your reactions! ❤ It will be so fun to follow your journey becoming a Stay. God jul och gott nytt år från en Stay i Sverige! 🧡
love your reactions! have you thought about doing 2 run throughs? like listening to it in one go without stopping much and then talking about lyrics and meanings on the 2nd time? i always feel like i'm interrupting the flow if i pause 🙈🙈 dont want you to miss anything 🥰
Though the song is dope ...yet I feel heavy listening to it cuz I know what they have been through to have it done. 😔😔😔😔😔😔😔This is one of the fewest times I could listen to it since the lyrics are true realisation of wht they felt that moment
I don't have to look through the comments to know that you're going to get told Lee Know and/or the rest of SKZ choreographed this. That's a common and popular claim, but it's untrue. They _did_ write the song, but the choreo was not them. That said, Chan chose Lee Know for his dancing expertise, with the specific intent of him being the dance leader and relieving Chan of that additional responsibility, and Lee Know definitely did have a strong guiding and teaching hand in the team learning and perfecting this choreo. He just doesn't happen to be the one who created it. _(The credits for the choreo are out there, straight from JYPE, so anyone who feels like arguing can go hunt those down instead. I won't engage.)_

Hope to see your reaction to Felix’s “Deep End” solo song
I always found it interesting that Han is the first one to break out, considering his issues. But then I think about it he is escaping the crowd.
Thought I would just mention not everyone knows about Hans' social anxiety and how severe it is.💕💕

You have to take a look at Victory Song. It's perfect if you like Felix and my favorite song by them!
