Thank you so much! I’m so happy to know that you feel this way about this video. Thanks a lot for taking the time to drop such a meaningful comment! ❤️📸

Laura your a beautiful human being I like the way you teach and explain in detail thank for your knowledge a I’m impressed by you how you get me back in the game love you for it
Five years ago when I started professional photography, I didn't have a studio or expensive equipment. I had the cheapest camera on the market, a Nikon kit with an 18-55 and a 200mm lens. The camera has been with me for almost nine years now, and even though it's starting to come apart from wear and tear, I've managed to take some of the most beautiful photos with it. Although I now own two other cameras from different brands, I prefer to continue using this one because I know it so well. In the beginning, I had a very small room where I set up backdrops for themed photoshoots, like Christmas and Easter. But mostly, I would take my clients out into nature, near lakes, and look for natural backdrops like flowers, since I'm also a florist. I can only say that this week I'm selling everything from my living room, even my dining table, to pursue my dream. Thanks to Laura, I've gained a deep understanding of how to create a professional home studio with minimal resources but good equipment that I can afford. I've photographed hundreds of families, but I still feel like I haven't reached my full potential. I'm sure my clients are happy with my work, but I want to reach a new level and start doing portrait photography. Thank you, Laura, for everything you do. You're a true artist and inspire me every morning when I drink my coffee. Because I work two jobs a day I don't have a lot of time at the moment. I've never met anyone who can explain things the way you do. Thank you.❤
'I was my worst enemy putting limitations on myself'. This hit hard. I know I'm very capable of doing a lot with the skills and materials I have, but I end up being my worst enemy. Thank you for this video, I needed to hear this and I love your approach!
I am so happy I stumbled upon your channel. You professionally opened my eyes to so many things. Thank you so much for the video-it is an eye opener for me.
You are such an honest photographer, I’m deeply grateful to have come across your channel. I was mortified this week because I got the chance to photograph with models and I had NO STUDIO! That thought started flowing into “what if my camera isn’t good enough”or “how am I gonna make these look cool and different” blah blah blah. Unproductive thoughts! I’m gonna figure this shoot out like I always do, make the pictures beautiful, and you’ve given me much needed reassurance. W videos and channel. Eres genial🙏
Thank you so much! So nice to know that this video made you feel better. Our thoughts and self-doubts are our worst enemies! 🤦🏻♀️ You’ll do a great job. Once you start shooting, you’ll feel way better. Every new photoshoot is a new challenge so we get nervous. It still happens to me with big projects. 😅 Go for it! And best of luck! ❤️💪🏼📸
I also really like the advice to find clients that are at the same “level” and realising that just because you can’t charge the same as a full professional doesn’t mean you can’t make some money. And this is also a spiral - once you start having an income with photography gear will (literally) pay for itself

I was on the other, extreme side of spectrum - I lived in Canada for 5 years and spent a LOT of money on my...well, a hobby. I even purchased studio lights and stands and some backdrops, always thinking I needed more. But I never spent time to learn to use what I already have. But this video put a lot of things into perspective, it's time to take a step back, take a deep breath and go back to where I departed. Subscribed!

I will be the first to admit that even this early on, I was starting to fall into the Gear Acquisition Syndrom for sure, but the only thing I ended up doing was swapping my APS-C body for a full frame (because my hobby aspect is night street photography, and my camera really wasn't holding up for the shots I was trying to take) But I fully understand that was a want more than a need! Now I run my 35mm + 85mm primes and all in the pursuit of starting a portrait/lifestyle photography business, I finished my second shoot with another model last week and I have another lined up for next week to get my portfolio underway! You have also inspired me to try more self portraiture to experiment with my style, my first studio flash arrived today so that will be an on going theme for the next few months! Thank you, thank you, thank you for the REAL + Raw rational you bring to your videos, you have pushed me forward so much since I found your channel a few months ago and I have gotten very comfortable and super happy with MY work! Big Love from Scotland, enjoy your travels!!

I’ve seen so many videos about starting a photography business and this video it the only one that has made me now start. Working with what I got. Totally inspired.
I thought that I could learn everything on RUclips. RUclips does help a bit after the person in front of the camera talks and rambles on for 8 minutes and then gets to the point. I started listening to a photography podcast because I thought it would be like lessons but in a way it wasn’t. The person on the podcast did have courses online and I decided to give it a try and the difference was night and day compared to learning on RUclips. What makes it the best experience, in my opinion, is that there is no ads, there are no sponsors taking video time, it just goes straight to the point. I would highly recommend that if you resonate with a photographer/videographer and they offer courses; take them. It will literally be life changing. Wish you all the best, I know we’re all trying to learn. You guys stay safe and keep on learning.
I TOTALLY agree with this. On RUclips you have to do a lot of research to find the right videos. You learn a lot but through a lot of research. When getting a course, they are very well structured, straightforward, and well produced for anyone to learn. Plus we get to support our favourite creatives. :) Thanks for being here! I hope you enjoy my channel! ❤️📸
I'm just 6 min. into this video and I already like your style. I totally agree with what you've said. Working with less is a great approach for every business in my opinion.
Thank you so much Dennis! Glad you can relate and you agree with this. I think is great to learn through limitations, we end up becoming better photographers! 😍
I love this advice. I constantly find myself in the same rut that you describe. I know how to do this, I just see so many others doing things that make me feel like I need to buy better gear, get a studio, get the perfect filter, get ..... This video just smacked that nonsense out of my head .. Thank you so much.
🥰❤️ Trying my best to push others as I needed myself to be pushed when I started. I went through a lot to learn everything I know and it makes me so happy to create these videos. Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
Wow! You are amazing! Thank you so much for the drive I have needed for quite some time. I used to be out every day with my camera, but lost the drive a while back. You are so inspiring and know just how to give people hope and the drive. You have a new subscriber as of this moment and I cannot wait to watch all you have. No more limitations here.
I feel lucky because i live in las Vegas and there are many great places to shoot. And your channel is the only channel i used when i got started and you make everything simple.
Thank you for this video. Right now I am paralyzed with overwheling lack of confidence. It feels like I am drowning deeper and deeper any time I think about it. I am almost at the edge of quitting without starting, I almost want to convince myself mayby it is not for me, but I know IT IS. ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU.
She took all my excuses and crushed them. New sub. Best photography advice I've heard. Takeaway: learn through your limitations, and don't put limits on yourself.
This is just what I needed. Bought a Sony A7iii a few years ago and still felt I needed better gear. I'm going forward with my nifty 50 and Tamron 28-75. Thanks for the inspiration Laura
Just found your Channel Laura and I'm already a big fan. I've been searching for a good studio/portrait photography channel for some and just found it. I have the basics for my own home studio and your channel will help me develop. This was a fantastic video, very informative. Thank you.
Hi Laura, your going in the right direction, I am a self taught ex camera operater, had my own studio flash lights etc, colour darkroom, worked in. Some top studios, self taught in computers, than had my own PC business, for 15 years, now I am over it all, now I am a Trader, less effort needed to make the same amount of money or heaps more..
After watching soooo many videos on RUclips you come across super honest everything you said I already knew, but you put the video saying what I already knew and thank you for that! You have a new follower and can’t wait to continue learning from your tips! And videos amazing job by the way!
Our aesthetics are very different but I definitely share your approach on making do with what you have and finding new possibilities on limitations. The same applies for making music. Thank you and keep doing you ❤
Well said. I fell into the trap of gear acquisition when I first started photography. RUclipsrs sell you on all this gear when in fact, you can get by with one camera and one or two lenses... I'm a photographer in Seoul, Korea, and just made a similar video to yours. Thanks for sharing!
Wow I like your straight to the point no BS take on things thank you for the information, I am just getting started, more of a hobby at the moment but in the near future wouldn’t mind making money from my hobby and you have just shown me in this video that you don’t need to spend thousands to make a start at it. Hi Danny! Thank you so much for such a meaningful comment and for your story. So happy to know that my video helped you. And as you said, you can always start making money in the future without investing that much at the beginning. 😊 You’re very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️
Thank you so much for all that you said in this video. I think there are so many people struggling with limitations and you just removed then. This is the first video I saw from you, and it's great. Keep doing this videos, You got a fan on me today!
Hi Fabricio! Thank you so much. I’m really happy to know that you’re enjoying my videos. We all struggle so much at the beginning… That’s why I like to talk through my experience as I went through that struggle as well. I needed to hear these things years ago so I thought about this video. ❤️
Muchísimas gracias por tus videos prácticos e inspiradores, Laura. Es criminal que no haya descubierto tu canal hasta ahora... Tus consejos serán la patada en el trasero que necesitaba para crear una web de una vez... Cheers!
Thank you for a great tips and for sharing your experience. This video is super. I moved to Switzerland 10 years ago, I knew almost nobody, and I also had a hard time with the German language. I had started to photograph weddings, but it was difficult to find clients, and the covid put everything on hold even more. For the last three years, photography has remained more of a hobby. I had to make a living in other ways, because in Switzerland everything is expensive. I was searching for new ideas on the Vero platform and accidentally came across you. :) Your work and your videos on RUclips inspired me to come back to photography again. Now I know that I would like to shoot portraits as I particularly like black and white photography. Thank you again. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you, Laura for this mindset shift! You gave tons of value in this video, in a direct way, which was relatable and motivating. I liked, subscribed and I look forward to enjoying more of your content.

Laura… Spot on video! You have to use the gear that you have and learn how to master what you have. When your income increases then upgrade your equipment. I skill have my 5D MarkII. I had most amazing photo shoot with a client. You have to have confidence in yourself. 💯
Thank you so much Wise! Glad you liked it! Exactly as you said... I always keep my cameras for sooooo many years till I'm able to take the next step and upgrade. The 5D MKII is still a beast! 😍 Big hug Wise! :)
Yay! Shoutout to 5dii. Bought mine used in 2010, and just upgraded to a used r6. See how it goes. At the same time not retiring the 5dii. I still like it a lot.

Thank you so much. Our thinking is very similar, i love making the most of limited gear. I've been shooting with a 550D for about ten years. Now planning to upgrade next year 😀. Love your tips- they are smart, effective and REAL! No BS at all. We need more creators like you 🙂
Been binging these videos. Ur really good at this. I have an A7C w/ 50mm 1.8, 24mm 2.8, and 16-35 f/4 pz. I also have the 28-60mm kit lens, but that's going to get sold. I love the idea of street and architectural photography, but my dream with photos is mock ups for products. Got the cam for filming after selling my fs5 ii for $800 😩 and my 18-105mm lens for $100 😩😩 (returning from Vegas and Erie very much defeated) because I needed the money badly. I got rid of gear people would kill for, but I'm over it. Grabbing this camera, these lenses, and junking out on RUclips has put the spark in me that school couldn't. Learning from limitations is a true statement btw. Keep being great. Need this videos for morale rn. 🥞❤️
It's all about the mind set, understand what we have, understand the limitations and work with it to the max, like you said "you learned a lot through limitation", no pain, no gain.
I really don’t know how to describe ur video but this is one of the best video on RUclips … and ur accent is killing it 🔥 and thank u for those tips.. as a photographer they really help
Finally a very good video about photography and gears. Thank you. I am so bored (almost pissed off) when I see Many photographer making videos about the last high end gear you need to do a good photo or video (peter mckinnon style) and i was with a good camera (not the most recent or expensive) and two lenses ( a 24-70 and a 85) and that's was enough to work, make money and have fun. Your approach work also for video maker.
Excuse me, first off I love your accent. Second I’m glad I came across this video and your content. You did hit the mail on the head. Thank you so much for sharing. What stood out to me “ don’t put limitations on yourself” thanks again.
Loved this statement “Everyone who is telling you, gear doesn’t matter , have the best camera, best lenses and expensive gear!” 😂🤣😇 I keep saying that too. But if I were to swap gear with those experts , they would still produce better results than me 😂🤣 Still learning.
@@jaspergoodall3206 I mean there is irony it it but she’s not entirely wrong. I’ve shot shows for publications yet I’ve never gonna to school a day in my life for photography

Above all, I find the way you deliver content in your videos, here and elsewhere, inspirational especially because your enthusiasm and belief in what you share , drawn from your own experience - is pure gold. You are being soo honest ,, the point is soo true that those who says gear doesn't matters have the best top of the line camera and top of the line lenses . , i always have the question if gear doesn't matters why don't they shoot on an iphone instead of their blackmagic or red or sony a7siii. I’ve seen so many videos about starting a photography business and this video it the only one that has made me now start. Working with what I got. Totally inspired.
Not much of what she said is new to me... Yet I really needed this. Thanks for the boost of confidence. Hugs from Brazil.
Thanks for being here! I hope you enjoy my channel! ❤️📸
100% agreed. Started my photography career with Olympus em10 with 45/1.8. Till today didn’t get any questions about of quality of my work. Just do it!
I'm just 6 min. into this video and I already like your style. I totally agree with what you've said. Working with less is a great approach for every business in my opinion.
Thank you so much Dennis! Glad you can relate and you agree with this. I think is great to learn through limitations, we end up becoming better photographers! 😍
THANK YOU FOR SUCH A USEFUL, SMOOTH AND EASY TO UNDERSTAND VIDEO
Laura eres genuinamente libre y generosa, mil gracias por este video... Y los otros que devorare prontamente. Gracias.
I love this advice. I constantly find myself in the same rut that you describe. I know how to do this, I just see so many others doing things that make me feel like I need to buy better gear, get a studio, get the perfect filter, get ..... This video just smacked that nonsense out of my head .. Thank you so much.
I love the way you talk ,, hey guys don’t limited yourself!! … you so awesome person…
🥰❤️ Trying my best to push others as I needed myself to be pushed when I started. I went through a lot to learn everything I know and it makes me so happy to create these videos. Thank you so much! 🙏🏼
I love your attitude. Clearly the key to success in anything you do.
For gear: A used Canon 5d (mk1 or mk2) and a 50mm 1.8. Simple and very professional setup for 300-400$.
Thank you.
Hi Duncan! I’m glad you found my channel and you like my videos! 😍 Super happy to have you around here! :) ❤️
You are so simple, so natural, so rare.. true is something rare nowadays. Congrats!!! great great video!!!
“You get to learn a lot through limitations.” You are so humble, so happy I came across your channel. Definitely subscribed. XO
Wow, I fell in love immediately from the intro of the video. No nonsense, just informative knowledge. New subscriber here.
Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked the video and I’m so happy to have you around here. Thanks for subscribing! I hope you enjoy my videos! 😊❤️
Thank you and keep doing you ❤
I don’t know how I got to your channel but you’re the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen good luck with your photography adventures
Very refreshing video. Thank you for your time and effort making this for us.
Well said. I fell into the trap of gear acquisition when I first started photography. RUclipsrs sell you on all this gear when in fact, you can get by with one camera and one or two lenses... I'm a photographer in Seoul, Korea, and just made a similar video to yours. Thanks for sharing!
Just discovered your channel... Truly amazing. This is what I was looking for... Eyeopener. Love it!
Wow I like your straight to the point no BS take on things thank you for the information, I am just getting started, more of a hobby at the moment but in the near future wouldn’t mind making money from my hobby and you have just shown me in this video that you don’t need to spend thousands to make a start at it. Thank you again
Hi Danny! Thank you so much for such a meaningful comment and for your story. So happy to know that my video helped you. And as you said, you can always start making money in the future without investing that much at the beginning. 😊 You’re very welcome. Glad you enjoyed the video! ❤️
Watched this all til the end and WOW. This video really delivers on the title. Thank you Laura - what a breath of fresh air
As someone who's just started out, I found this video incredibly helpful. Great tips, great video, and great mindset. Keep being you! ♥️
You've given me so much confidence and inspiration here. No more holding back.
Yesss! So nice to read this! So glad it helped! 😍❤️
Every word you’ve spoken rings true,,,so often negativity sinks our ship before it leaves port!
Right?? Mindset is super important. We tend to sabotage ourselves before even trying. 🙏🏼
The way you just motivate me is crazy I had to subscribe… Thank you!
Thank you, Laura for this mindset shift! You gave tons of value in this video, in a direct way, which was relatable and motivating. I liked, subscribed and I look forward to enjoying more of your content.
You’re very welcome! 😍 So nice to know that liked this video. Thanks a lot for subscribing, I hope you enjoy my content! ❤️🙏🏼
finally! someone disagreed "Gear doesn't matter" this is something real! I like the way you make it all sense tips and advice that are very practical.
This is the first video I watched on your channel, then I binged on so many of them last night (so sleepy today, but it was worth it 🥱🙃).
I appreciate how relatable & sincere you are, and your passion for helping others succeed. Thx!
@@nurabdul1436 yessss! The R6! What a best! 😍 Totally agree to keeping the 5D as well! 💪🏼📸
I've always tried to find my main niche, good to hear that others don't believe you need JUST ONE!
ROCK N ROLL!!!!! NICE BASS IN THE BACKGROUND. Great advice here in this video.
Yessss! I love my bass guitar! Getting better at it slowly... Just practising and learning for now. Thank you so much! I'm very happy to know that you liked this video! :)
Instantly subscribed. This was so genuine. ¡Muchas gracias!
Thank you so much Joseph! So nice to know that you liked this video. 😊 Muchas gracias a ti por subscribirte! I hope you like my channel! ❤️
Sounds like I have half of this down but this reminder. I was always insecure about light. I have purchased lights and watching more and more videos. You encouraged me. :) To move forward. good points, My clients are increasing as a result of the outdoors.
This is amazing to read! Thank u! 😍 So nice to know that your clients are increasing because of shooting outdoors. I love shooting in location lately! 😊
Just what i needed! This is the best advice any photographer can give thank youuu!
Very motivational, you are awesome at explaining and simplifying things. So glad I found your channel.
IIt's always enlightening to watch your videos and apply what I learn to my photography skills. Thank you!
Omg! Your energy is phenomenal!!
Thank you so much Diana! 😊🙏🏼❤️ I hope you enjoyed the video!
Laura, this might be one of the most thorough videos I've watched for a beginner or hobbyist that wasn't to go pro. Thank you. I've subscribed to your channel. 👌🏽
Subscribed. You have a way of making me think I can do it. I bought a cheap camera to play around with last winter and I've been wondering how to improve take the next step. Today I will start learning through the limitations I face
Great great great video. Came at the right time. Just when ilI thought “what am i doing with this camera thing?” I see your video in my suggestions and wow. You but motivation back into me to make moves and start shooting again. Thank you! I am going to watch more of your videos and tell my friends about them.
Love that you are sharing your honest experience! A lot of Photographers don't really share this level of experience. I am also a self taught Photographer and spend my own time training myself. Thank you for being open, it's very helpful and being confident and trusting oneself is always the solution to get out of our own way. You Rock! :)
Laura, you are amazing!
I thought you were gonna talk about AI and how lots of artists and designers are supposed to be in danger to lose their jobs in a couple years, but as I went through the video I started loving you, I love your attitude, your voice, your photos and your motivating words. Greetings from Colombia (Latin America)
Thanks so much 🙏
I picked a point “you can learn photography on your own”
It's all about the mind set, understand what we have, understand the limitations and work with it to the max, like you said "you learned a lot through limitation", no pain, no gain.
I admire you : you're so brave and creative.
Wonderful. I learn a lot from just one episode.
Thanks.
Wow no one ever comes out like that thanks. You are very honest.
You re telling reality, thank you so much. You re an inspiration
Wow … l love what you’re doing…and yes I’m a seasoned photographer.. everything you talked about was spot on.! Great Job👌🏾
This video just blessed my life.
Thank you for sharing. You've earned a loyal follower.
I look forward to seeing more amazing things from you.
Subscribed. I loved your honesty and energy. Great video!
Thank you so much for subscribing! So nice to know that you like my videos! 😍🙏🏼
I really love your channel , thank you for supporting beginners . You are awesome .
‘You don’t need to go to university’ said the photographer that studied at Central St Martin’s 🙄
I subscribed when she said that.
@@jaspergoodall3206 literally 😂. Like gear does matter to a certain extent
@@jaspergoodall3206 I mean there is irony it it but she’s not entirely wrong. I’ve shot shows for publications yet I’ve never gonna to school a day in my life for photography
Just found your channel. Great to see another photography channel from another working professional photographer! Subscribed.
It's a true survival approach 😊, thanks for the encouragment!!!
Thanks for sharing your valuable insights through your experiences .I haven't see such an honest uplifting message I'm a long time.
That was something I need to hear, your video kicked me really hard and really good. Thank you! Going to check your channel :D
Hi Jakub! Amazing! So nice to know that this video helped anyhow. 😍 I hope you enjoy my channel! :)
Well done Laura. Great common sense, structured advice and a pleasure to watch and listen to. Above all, I find the way you deliver content in your videos, here and elsewhere, inspirational especially because your enthusiasm and belief in what you share , drawn from your own experience - is pure gold. Thank you and keep up the good work!
There is not enough 'like' buttons for me to press here! Absolutely LOVE what you are saying and your advice is so fantastically wonderful.
I cannot express how brilliant this is.
I am so grateful for every little gem of inspiration you provide and the 'reality testing' of some chronic self-doubt thinking processes.
Thank you so much.
It literally caused me to reconsider some of my own thought patterns and views and to re-direct some of my recent efforts.
Again, Laura, it is impossible to thank you enough.
You are being soo honest ,, the point is soo true that those who says gear doesn't matters have the best top of the line camera and top of the line lenses . , i always have the question if gear doesn't matters why don't they shoot on an iphone instead of their blackmagic or red or sony a7siii.
I subscribed u because you are very inspiring and soo true and practical.
Hi Ramesh! I’m glad you agree with what I said on the video and you enjoyed it! Thanks a lot for subscribing. I’m super happy to have you around here and I hope you enjoy my channel! 😍
I needed to hear every word you just said. Thanks Laura!
Thank you so much for this... I was getting discouraged and the first three minutes, really allowed me to do a level set.
I really like your persona honesty I can see it speak from the heart which is the mind refreshing blessing to you
That's actually exactly the right video I was looking for ! Thank you, great content
Amazing to read this! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks a lot for watching. I hope you enjoy my channel! 😍
@@LauraBC I do. I like your explanations about how you started with low budget and what's possible with that. No glamour talk, that's good
@@FriesyRider Thank you! I thought it would be helpful to show how I started. Everything is low budget and messy at the beginning. 😅 Thanks for being here! :)
