I have the OWON XSA-1015 TG. Great VFM Spectrum Analyzer for my amateur rf measurements.
Fortunatelly i don't have any issues with it. Works great and i am very satisfied with it. I am glad that i have it and have great specifications and measurings than other same level competitors.
In XSA-1015TG I didn't see any spurs at low input and 1Hz RBW. But some 1015 had power on / boot issue...caused by faulty motherboard. in most cases the owon support solve it, replacing the motherboard, free of charge. My problem is, that for many years owon company does not release any firmware update yet for XSA Series Spectrum Analyzers. I really don't know why all these years didn't give attention to release a Firmware Update. Now it is a demand from XSA owners and this must be known in owon company / programmers. If you are an owner of XSA series spectrum analyzer, send a e-mail to owon to release a firmware update, i think it's time to do that, and I hope for a fimware update from owon that step-up that great device.
With spectrum analyzers, price should be added to the data sheet, because it is often the most limiting spec. These are both nice units! I am still using an old HP unit - it’s huge (and runs on gas, I think).

Interesting video. I purchased the Rigol a few years ago and really like it. After watching your video, I'm glad I have the Rigol. I don't like the Owon SA. As for the RBW, my Rigol came from the factury set up so I can go down to 10 hz without any firmware updates.

I purchased an OWON XSA815 a couple of years ago. I did see the spurs at low input and 1Hz RBW also. It would be worth noting in the video, OWON does not charge extra for all the features. It doesn't do VSWR but return loss will do just fine.

Great educational video! It would be helpful if you can post the set-up parameters for some of these tests so that I can duplicate on my Siglent SSA3021X, a competing SpecA.

Thank you for this excellent comparison video. I discovered this Owon model through your video. I already had the Rigol TG-815 which was later replaced by a Siglent SSA3021X mainly due to better performance. As I use it almost exclusively to tune duplexers and cavity filters, when I saw DANL -160dBm in the specifications and this speed with the FFT I had no doubts, I ordered one.
I did some tests and as a spectrum analyzer its performance is really impressive. I think it's better than Siglent. But I'm disappointed with several auto option which can not be bypassed manually and limits the use with the tracking generator.
I visited the Owon website looking for answers or some new firmware and found nothing. I don't even know if the firmware that came with mine is current or if there is already one that corrects these things. I would like to hear from those of you who have this analyzer if you are encountering these same limitations. Maybe I'm making a mistake (which I didn't make in Siglent) and I'd like to know how you configure yours to tune filters with high isolation. Thanks!
Great! but remember, with Your BNC T You have an impedance mismatch, which could influence the whole setup. and this mismatch issue is not the same for both devices, but in general, nice discussion about this devices.

Are you still satisfied with the XSA810-TG?
Do you have further problems with spurs?
Is there any firmware update solving the bugs?
Do you know if the XSA815 is as fast as the XS810 (sweep time).

Hi, I enjoyed your comparison and looks like the Owon is the leader. Are you familiar with the newer model XSA1015-TG. I am wondering if Channel Power/Bandwidth measurements are built into the XSA1015-TG or even your 1GHz model as I cant find any options available for it unlike the Rigol DSA815 where optional extras is req to be purchased at significant cost.
Is the phase noise originating in the analyzer or generator? maybe the owon is'nt showing the whole story?
The case about the seemingly absurd low phase noise for OWON (in FFT mode) could probably be the use of Window. I have seen the same effect on mine RSP1A, that with PC software can be used as spectrum analyzer. I don't recall now what specific Window type (Blackman, Hamming or Hanning) did the effect of very flat phase noise. In anyway, when other type of Window chosen, or no Window at all I could see the usual "skirt". I am not an expert on signal analysis so i can't explain it directly, but this could be the case here. It looks good anyway 🙂And OWON SA looks good.
The spurs at very low RBW is strange! Also, when turning on the preamp, there is no warning or any indication that it cannot be used with the settings on the analyzer, but it automatically changes everything! That is real bad!
I would MUCH prefer a warning popup saying that it cannot be used at the current settings. That should be a no brainer!

Thank you for the great review, I have always been fascinated by spectrum analyzers, but I have never owned one. I love the performance of the Owon, but I wish it would work with lower frequencies. 9Khz to 1 Ghz is for me neither fish nor fowl. But lower and higher frequencies seems to drive the cost exponentially 😭 Do you have any specific use cases for 9Khz to 1,5Ghz except ham radio? 9 Khz is very high for audio, I don't hear much over 13-14Khz any more.
Will this unit monitor and generate TDMA and or DMR modulation by chance?

The unit I have seems to be priced around $1090.00 USD. I'm not seeing many sites selling them at the moment as they are new to the market.

I used to have the rigol, but then I saw a review for the siglent ssa3021x which is what I have now, its far superior especially as to its noise floor which is 15 to 20 db better than the rigol so a much more sensitive analyzer. I can see signals down to -140 dbm, the rigol would never do that. I checked today its goes down to 1 hz rbw not that I've ever used it that low, 10 is usually low enough. By the way they're rf spectrum analyzers so not really suitable for audio. Your much better off with your hp for that
With my Owon I'm getting a very noise -90dBm notch filter deep and could not get better due to software limitations.
