    How do you find your test knitting opportunities, if you’ve test knit in the past?

    • @rushiaj1222

      I’ve only test crochet patterns but I always found them on Instagram and I’m apart of a tester group on FB for knitting and crochet

      I find my test knits on IG. There are hashtags to follow and in the stories to see who is looking.

    I’ve test knit quite a few projects, and I love doing it…. However, I have had one designer that I won’t test for again and I won’t mention bc that would be rude! I found an oops, and said designer wasn’t happy with me, as though I’d been the one to make the mistake. I will say if any designers are reading this… be kind to your testers too…they’re doing the job you asked them to do,, don’t be horrible to them bc they do their job! (Oh, and I will say that I wasn’t ugly or rude when I mentioned the oops I found!)

    I always find my test knits through Raverly. I’m so glad you did this video because it’s useful to know what designers want. Those 3 questions to ask before you decide to do one were perfect.

    Definitely get value from you Podcasts and I like that they are mostly under 1/2 hr. Agree, it’s always nice to be kind ... it’s tough to design, write and everything that goes into pattern writing. Positive Feedback always wins over constructive criticism. Stay safe Caleb. 🧶❤️😘

      Thank you so much for the lovely compliments! And yes, I agree that so much goes in and positivity goes a long way with something like test knitting.

    I've test knit twice now. The first was some colour-work socks. I didn't get accepted for my size, so I did the man size. This taught me that it's nice to testknit, but only if I end up with something practical in the end. I doubt my husband will ever wear the socks. The next testknit was for a simple raglan sweater...I was lucky to be able to choose my granddaughter's size, as I was going to make her a birthday sweater anyway. It's been 2 weeks since I submitted my info for that testknit, and I'm a bit dismayed that I have had acknowledgement or a thank you from the designer. I do like the feeling of helping out...I would most likely do it again

    Now Im only beginning knitting with looms. And those pros actually are more the reason I knit. Even though it does annoy me that it takes awhile to finish the project but its worthwhile in the end. And I do feel proud and it helps me anxiety.

    This was super informative, thank you! I have been wanting to try test knitting for some time now, and this answered a lot of my questions! Do you have any recommendations for where to find designers looking for test knitters?

    • @DrowninginYarn
      @DrowninginYarn  3 года назад +1

      Typically, I watch my favorite designers stories on Instagram for testing calls. That’s how I’ve found all the tests I’ve done.

    I started test knitting so I could learn new techniques and how to successfully read a pattern and charts. It also helped me learn each designer has a different style within their design. The bonus part was meeting new people and making new knitting friends! Thank you for this video.

    Agree with everything you said.
    When I'm interested in testing a pattern, I alway tell the designer that I won't be able to use the same kind of yarn they use. And the fact that I come from a non-speaking english country gave me the chance to test knit.

    I would love to be a test knitter; however, I have a large family and everyone is knit worthy. I spend several hours daily knitting and the rest of my time is either quilting or weaving. Your information about test knitting is very valuable if I ever ding myself with nothing to knit! Keep up the great work!

    Such great insight, as always! Thank you for sharing your research and personal experience. I did a test-knit project once and honestly, it was rather a non-event. It didn't feel like I was part of any community. And the designer didn't give me any direction on what they were looking for in the test-knit process. So really if anything, it was more like getting an advance copy of a pattern, but with a deadline. And to your point, that can serve as a great motivator to some people.

    • @DrowninginYarn
      @DrowninginYarn  3 года назад +1

      So, I have had this experience as well, but I have also had the experience of of a small community! I think the best thing to do is try test knitting for a variety of people because you may find a designer that is so great to test for! I have been fortunate to test for some amazing people and it made the process so fun!
