In the context of this series, Kong's family were able to be kings of Skull Island against the normal threats, but then the Skullcrawlers emerged and they had a lot more problems; then typical kaiju-sized opponents found the island (starting with the MUTOs) and it was just a nightmarish slaughter. (Ebirah had a tease cameo in the prior episode, too, now that I recall!) So the point is that Kong never gives up but is just so outmatched that he has to leave -- no doubt to find a way to win! Now let's see if he gets into a scrap with the Planet X aliens and figures a way to borrow their tech to level up: he's smart and can use tools, and that's how humanity beat our monsters in reality.

In the context of this series, Kong's family were able to be kings of Skull Island against the normal threats, but then the Skullcrawlers emerged and they had a lot more problems; then typical kaiju-sized opponents found the island (starting with the MUTOs) and it was just a nightmarish slaughter. (Ebirah had a tease cameo in the prior episode, too, now that I recall!) So the point is that Kong never gives up but is just so outmatched that he has to leave -- no doubt to find a way to win! Now let's see if he gets into a scrap with the Planet X aliens and figures a way to borrow their tech to level up: he's smart and can use tools, and that's how humanity beat our monsters in reality.
