Summary: Most of the tools for inferring a tumor phylogeny assume that no two mutations involve the same site: the so-called infinite sites assumption. Unfortunately, there is mounting evidence that such an assumption does not hold. In the talk, I will discuss the computational advantages of such an assumption and the consequences that we have to face when we want to move to a more general model.
