Thank you for the video. I wonder if there are katas, that use both katana and tessen together. It sounds like a good combination. I understand, that katana are usually used with both hands and that there would likely be no free hand for the tessen. It's just my opinion, but I just really like the combination. The strenghts and weaknesses are very different. So the combination can use the strenghts of both and at the same time cover the weak points of each other. Well, at least in theory it could work that way. Truth is: I lack the experience with either to know if it works that way or not. Maybe I will find out at some point with enough practise.
I was impressed by the Uke drawing his katana after being thrown by the saya. 1: Shows the Uke's presence of mind while training. 2: Shows the thoroughness of the Ryu's training to have a defensive response even while on the ground. 3: Shows the deeper strategy of the Ryu against all encounters. Excellent!
Any good fighting discipline will not only show you the aggressive move where your performing the kata but at the same time will show you possible counters against that move and it's various applications. Honestly they say that a good fighting style not only will win against other fighting systems with reliable results but also if you had 2 masters of that same fighting style use all the moves against each other they should fight to a stalemate. It shows that not only the attacks are effective against your enemies but if it's ever used against you then you have a trained response to that same attack. In wrestling, Brazilian ju jutsu (Gracie style especially) and even in Krav Maga. they especially train this as these fighting styles for actual live combat with various styles and also the more common "no style but see red" style everyone with no training can use. I think as well that many modern styles have been watered down by peace, as in a warring time that for generations of life or death battles the ones who survive are either the cream of the crop or have tricks up their sleeves which saved their lives (leaving out cowards and non combatants). These tricks and techniques are passed down but for only a couple of generations as the truly gruesome stuff is filtered out as it's not necessarily needed anymore. Especially in japan where the samurai were phazed out and most samurai families that survived use the sword as a traditional thing rather then a live or death type of activity. Alot of these families are around still but are business owners and investors now.
You mentioned that Samurai would have steel balls tied within the tassel. That sounds very similar to the "Monkey Fist" knot that became popular among European sailors for self-defence. It eventually got banned in almost all countries around the world because criminals started using it due to how good it was as a concealed weapon.
Thank you for bringing this out. It's nice to see a proper demonstration of Tessen jutsu, especially since it is rarely shown in YT. Looking forward to what you came up next! ^^
Until injuries and Arthritis in my hip stopped my training, I had achieved Ni Dan and was about to test for San Dan in Tanamura Ha Genbukan Ninpo Tai Jutsu and kokosai juJutsu Shodan. Also, graded Shoden menkyo Gikan Ryu KoppoJutsu, & Kijin Chousui Ryu Daken Tai Jutsu, along with Kirigami in Shiden Fudo Ryu Daken taiJutsu , Kukushin Ryu Tai Jutsu & Togakure Ryu Ninpo.Tessen and Han-Bo were two of my favourite training tools. Seeing these patterns brings back many happy memories. Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos ☺️
Thanks for this video, I enjoyed it so much 🥰and i love the way Seki Sensei smiles when talking about how the katas work, but I think that there were enough videos about how to fight against a katana with other weapons I would like a video about how to fight against them with a katana (I really need a way to fight against staf) or a video about Seki Sensei's favourite katas (It wold be lovely consider how passionately he talks about all the katas).
I thought that you meant that a metal fan(somebody who loves metal music), could overwhelm a katana. On a serious note, I've found that even things like carpetting, could be used to stop edged weapons. Except for piercing possibly, a sheet of carpet can stop a cut or slashing attack. Now, a suit of carpet armor, might look silly, but it might work
@@thezelmoscene3746 I believe there a metal music fan could stop katana... Because metal music fan would bring his Bluetooth speaker, and crank it so loud that person holding katana, would have to stop his katana and hold his ears while the metal music fan took his katana away
Hello sir. I have seen your videos and absolutely LOVE them. Do you teach an empty hand version of,your system? Also I am a man with prosthetic legs. Do teach students with my condition and other disabilities?
As far as I know Seki Sensei only teaches the kenjutsu, not any form of jujutsu. I just joined Asayama Ichiden a few weeks ago and he is teaching standing versions of any kata that require sitting in seiza, for those who can't take that position. I'm not sure about your mobility but they seem very open to trying to teach to anyone they can.
Bonjour Seki Sensei, Shogo San. Your remark about thr sharp edges of the metal fan made me think about the Jite weapon. It has sharp edge and a blade catcher. Would the sharp edges were also on ourpose, to help neutralizing an oponent without sheding blood?
My former Sensei told me that a tessen can actually break a katana by striking the mune of the blade just above the habaki. The manufacturers of tessen should cut Seki Sensei in on their profits from now on because once everyone sees this video, they'll all be shopping for tessen 😊
The metal fan seems like an ambush weapon. Both for defense, and offensive tactics when attacking, or being attacked. Tights positions with little maneuvering would make the metal fan dominate. Is that the only hidden tool for surprise ambushes there is?

Tsukada sensei is a great Uke, it helps so much to see what the enemy is doing to provoke the form of the kata and he does a great job!

I have my jaw dropped actually. Thank you, Seki Sensei and Shogo.
I'm sorry for laughing, but I loved the look of shock on your face when he took YOUR katana out of the sheath lol! 🤣🤣🤣
Very interesting. Tessen has a lot of techniques that overlap entirely with the rondel dagger. Very cool. I really like the tassel.

Thank you so much for sharing these video's. They are super informative, and I love how you slow it down and show the steps in how they work.
I enjoyed all of the tessen videos, Thank you for sharing them. If I were looking to purchase a tessen what would you recommend?
Your surprised face was so legit! Super interesting technique.
Seki Sensei is displaying amazing budo skills as always.
More , more , more Tessen Jitsu Techniques please ! I love seeing how such a sample non threatening item can be used to defend yourself.
Metal fans vs Katana. And here I was, expecting to see goths battling it out with samurai.😂
It's nice to see Shogo getting beat up by Seki Sensei for a change ^_^'
I also enjoyed seeing him as the Uke instead of Tsukada sensei for a change, haha.
Excellent video. Very interesting, informative and worthwhile video by a great martial arts master.
Seki Sensei is fascinating to watch in motion.

Awesome video. Thank you so much for making it. Do the Tessen open like a real fan or are they solid?
Yes.
Some do like normal, some do not and are for show.
Thanks
that katana stealing technique is awesome
This is one of my favorite aspects of Budo to see!
Was legitimately expecting the video to be a Slipknot enthusiast screaming at the katana until it shattered or something like that
That was so cool! Thank you!
Very Nice , , , how about a Fly-Whisk Tutorial ?

Thank you. Draw sword early, the quickest draw in the moment close up is the better weapon. What is the quickest weapon to draw, sensei?
Simply beautiful
This is really spectacular. :D
Want that fan now !
Exactly how Douma Upper 2 Fights in the manga
i thought metal fans were like fans of metal music and was like "how are metals fan trying to fight a katana"
so it pays to be a metalhead myself thank god
