- Welcome to Erbil! Kurdistans ancient capital city.
Plenty of people told us Erbil ain't the nicest place, they said people won't have the time of day for us or will try to rip us off but I've gotta say we were pleasantly surprised.
We kicked the day off with a good old hearty breakfast, I've no idea what we ate but it was bloody good.
After eating we hit up Erbil bazaar, got a fresh lemonade and chilled out in a tea shop with a cracking view of the ancient citadel.
A kind bloke from the tea shop paid for us and took us round the corner to buy some old Iraqi money, people here really do look after you.
We did a little more shopping in the old bazaar and I even bought some super cheap aftershave from a lad on the streets.
On the walk home we stopped for some food and a cup of tea, once again the shop owner would not let us pay!
Evening came and we headed back out onto the streets of Erbil to eat some traditional food, on the way we met a bloke selling a strange tamarind juice from his back which was actually pretty delicious. To finish the day we found a nice local restaurant and enjoyed a beautiful dolma feast, one of my all time favourite foods.
We quite like Erbil or Hawler as the locals say, definitely ain't a bad place like people said.

My brother, we have many entertainment places in Erbil and near Erbil as well... such as places of mountains, waterfalls and springs, and there you can enter the Kurdish villages where you get to know the flavor of our special heritage.
Yes we do but now, in Eid or June, it's not the best experience to visit the waterfalls or the popular places, especially bekhal and gali ali bag, since you may've heard the news...
All the food looks so good to me. People are very nice and friendly.👍❤ 😊

I highly recommend you visit (Empire World) in Erbil. It gets a good view at night, and a lot of tourists visit there.
We wanna be as far away from tourists aha we like the working mans streets!

I advise you to try the Gazwa which is a Kurdish natural and unique kandy that you can't find it anywhere around the world, but make sure you buy the natural kind. As Kurdish we call our city ( HAWLER) not Erbil which is an assurian name .

Love the videos and thank you for enojoying Kurdistan; warts and all. Just wanted to tell you that the red seasoning is Sumak/sumaq. It is a very popular ingredient in the Middle East, and it pairs really well with meat and fish.
Keep going as I thoroughly enjoyed your vlogs thus far 😊
Edit; the dolma you had is not made out of grape leaves but rather chard or swiss chard as it's known. Both are delicious and made frequently in our culture but the slight difference is in the base. In our culture we use a yoghurt base for the grape leaves dolma, whereas it is a tomato puree base for the swiss chard, which is what you had. Hth.
