As I say about a million times, this is not a 'how to' video as there isn't only one way to break a horse in. Every horse is an individual and therefore should receive different training accordingly. By all means get a discussion going and ask questions in the comments guys. However, any 'unhelpful' comments will be deleted, your girl hasn't got time for hate 😘

We’d be drunk in a minute and comatose in 4 minutes! All three of them, it was a chorus of ‘good boy!’ Yikes. I turned off the commentary when I realized that was all they were going to say.

hmm not jaffas fault i'm afraid spot the mistakes as human not pony he is a star.
I’ve ridden a similar horse ,she walked trotted(had an extended trot too) and galloped....where is canter? I dolnt know but she was quite fun to ride.
tends to be the case with trotters or with horses that people have tried to turn into trotters, ive had a few people ask me to ride their horses because they cant get them to canter, then they later on find out they have previously been a trotter or attempted trotter, you have to be quite forceful to get them to canter but its hard as they dont know what you are asking and its not very nice as a rider having to do so either, i guess that this could be ther case with jaffa but i dont know im not saying it definitely is the case, just thought i would share my experience with this. On top of that he is just a stunning young gelding

It’s so bittersweet watching your videos. After a couple of almost fatal accidents ( horse rolling on top of me) I lost my nerve. I love the way horses smell, the feel of them moving under you but I think my horse riding days are over. Top marks for helmets though. Saved my life twice. Jaffa looks so good ( we had a cat called Jaffa)
Oh no must be hard losing such an amazing hobby.. or more like passion.
But I can totally understand this.
I’m quite a brav rider and never skiped because I got bucked off or something but when you fell off a few times with a kinda bad ending... you’ll lost a bit of confidence in situations that are similar to those where you fall off.(Or at least for me)
Do you think groundworking would be something for you? You better nothing with horses at all.
I'm so sorry you had to go through this. I was in an accident years ago where I lost all feelings to my legs, shattered parts of my spine and we didn't know if I would be able to walk again. Lucky enough I could but it's taken me 10 years to feel confident again. Now I'm looking forward to getting back in the saddle. Give yourself time and space to heal and I'm sure when and if the timing is right, you will feel the call again.
Have you tried basic groundwork and just being around horses. doing some in-hand stuff with a horse, move up to getting back on, then getting straight back off again, get on, walk a few steps, get back off etc. all on a really calm, quiet horse. of course don't force yourself if you don't want to! but I know giving up a hobby, especially when it was so passionate for you is super difficult...I move away from home last year and haven't ridden a horse since and it has been the most depressing year of my life watching youtubers all riding when I miss it so badly.
Maybe contact a coach? Like one of those who train with your mental state in connections to horses. I don't know if they are common where you are from, but they are here, its like an "alternative" coach and training method about riding anxiety. Some people say it helps them a lot- It could totally be worth a try. Its kinda like horse therapy.
I'm so sorry to hear that! Don't give up on riding if you love it so much! My first fall a year later is still knocking my confidence, I am really nervous out hacking because when riding a friends horse bare back in their arena which doesnt really have any form of enclosure, and she spooked as I was getting on and she bucked me off. I didnt ride for a week and I was riding a really spooky mare who whenever I asked for trot she cantered. This knocked my confidence a lot more. Several times I thought that I should just have given up, but I now realise that if I had, I would be lost. I strongly advise that after a fall get back up, if you are able to, as I didnt my first fall and I wish I had. My second fall I learned and I'm so glad I did because otherwise I would have been pushed even further behind. I hope you can ride again soon😊

After 15 or so years of starting youngsters, no matter if they came into the world with me there or not, I always, always, go back to ground work first. Long lining, lunging, bagging them out, putting stuffed pillow cases over their withers attached to the rings for a 5 point breast plate. These bounce and touch the sides of the horse where the legs would be, and all done on the ground. So many people don't realize how much you can teach your horse without ever being in the saddle. Love how you and Becky got Jaffa to be to the point of being ridden. Slow and steady will always get the best results. Best Regards to you both. Interesting and fun to see what goes into training and desensitizing horses. Including the bantering, which is always so entertaining. "Run, Becky, run!" LOLOL. It's great to see people who love horses managing to enjoy what is really a serious business and doing such a great job while not putting pressure on the horses and making it stressful for them. And Jaffa trying so hard to do what you want ... as soon as he figures out what that is. Thanks for all the wonderful vlogs. Keep it up and try to convince Becky to grace us with her presence more often.

If it wasn't so hard and so expensive to buy nice Welsh Cobs in Australia, a Jaffa would be part of my life.

@@dappledblue5656 I went to the october sales and they were selling at 120 pounds which was the start price for bidding. really goood cobs. Pity the price is so low it wont make any sense to breed them if it carries on like this.

I adore Jaffa 😍 I broke my mare in a few years ago now and she’s was my first youngster! I’d sat on her with a more experienced girl but half a year later I had a friend hold her and just popped on 🤣 quiet as anything! She’s a spicy one now she’s fitter haha! He’s such a good boy and I just love him! So excited to see more of him 😍😍

For my hobby/job I paint, and I enjoy having your videos on my watch later playlist and I listen and watch, you keep me company basically. But boy what a boy you have! He is such a joy to watch, he literally has "joie de vivre" he has spice, class and a overall fun little man. I enjoy watching him immensely. I had to literally stop working to watch and I sat with a silly smile just watching him glide. Who ever has this little guy is going to be so lucky. I hope he finds a fantastic home when he is ready. He is very special. You are obviously very good at helping young horses to become confident comfortable horses that anyone could enjoy. There needs to be more trainers like you. Harsh handling is not necessary and it often does more damage than good. Sorry for the long post but I am so happy with this video. Well done guys. Hi Meghan love your videos I’ve been breaking in a 13.2 dun called jasper he was from Ireland he is so sweet I’ve had him for 6 months and when I got him he wouldn’t let me touch him as he wasn’t handled I’m now riding him and trotting I’m hoping he will make 14 hands at leased love Jaffa cutest pony ever x ❤️

Such a pretty pony! I’m not into horses so I don’t know the colours, but I love the way the mane goes with the coat! He seems nice too.
His color so coat + mane is called flaxen chestnut, chestnut is his coat and flaxen is his mane color

Absolutely loved this. Jaffa is such a lovely little pony and you have done an amazing job with him. Can’t wait to see him progress a bit more before he is sold (I will be so sad when he is sold and we can’t follow him anymore!)
What a handsome little guy!! Riding was always my therapy and then in 2010 I fractured my L2 vertebrae in my spine. Riding is still such a passion of mine but actually mounting makes me panic and I start to shake and my heart races. It’s still something I’m working on but after leasing my horses to bad homes or terrible trainers injuring them... I had to have them pts because vets said there was no guarantee that treatment would work and as pasture horses they wouldn’t be happy as they were in pain constantly... 🥺 now I have my young 4 year old but super fiery so I’m really not sure if she will be a good match for my nerves... seeing Jaffa being so willing and so sweet was really a way to cheer myself up. You guys are so good with your babies 🥰
I have a welsh chestnut/ flaxen that in breaking in (bringing back into work but we don’t know if he was ever properly broken in) this is giving me confidence so thank you

What a delight watching a pony enjoy his training and progress so much! You guy are awesome! The horses, riding and horsemanship in these vlogs is just outstanding, a real pleasure to enjoy and a wonderful influence on up and coming horse people!
One of the things I love most about Jaffa is that even if he was practically walking he would still go over the jump

Very similar to what we have been doing with my very green horse. Grandkids had been less around on him before, and he had been used as a back horse, on a team of 4. My trainer has been helping me all along the way:)

My Welsh D jumped like a stag all comes down to training and sometimes natural ability not all Welsh Ds are the same. As for the trot that's a sing of good breeding

Thanks for sharing this, I needed some inspiration to get myself in gear and start breaking in my little cob. Jaffa seems very mild manners, even his tantrums are harmless.. right? Do you think he was a good boy which made the whole breaking in process easier OR are you guys just that good?

You should get a real long lining surcingle and lines. You can work your leverage from the sides to the top where your hands would be and adjusted to where your horse needs to be to get correct collection

Thank goodness for our traditional British sympathetic way of breaking . I'm fed up with the American approach and usually with 2 year olds . well done and a lovely sort of cob.

What are the flexible, square trot poles that you use? They look really good because they wouldn't roll, or cause tripping.

Info on the gimbal! Does it work okay to follow you while riding? I use to have a Soloshot but it was so fiddly. I have been looking for something similar without spending a ton of money on the Pixel.
I'd love to see you do the 100 day challenge with an America Mustang. Catch one, gentle it, first saddle, first ride. All in 100 days. From totally wild to being a perfect rider. Would you buck it out, or no.

Jaffa is such an amazing pony!
I'm looking at this guys long reining and I wondered why it looked familiar.
I knew someone with a far bigger horse that.... while broken and rideable, would protest with running backwards or bucking any time you insisted that he do something other than just plodding forward. I know his owner was a nervous rider and not the most stable, and also she hated schooling.
I rode him once just before she bought him to see him under saddle, he struggled with cantering on a right lead, at the time he wasn't a baby but hadn't done much, so he protested with a couple of big bucks every time I asked for more of a bend to get him to strike off on the right lead (It worked, but it was something to work on).
Fast forward like 12 years or so, I'd expected to ride one of the usual rabble that had been misbehaving, and I was down for this particular horse and I'm like 'what?'. I asked my instructor and I was told he'd dumped his owner and she'd cracked several ribs, so they had staff ride him in the week and I started riding him on the weekends. He hadn't learned anything in that time, same problem asking for the right canter lead.
What was worse was he'd learned how to avoid doing things by just moving his head and neck but the rest of him going in a fixed direction. So.... we decided to work a little bit on his fine movements. Asking him to turn on the forehand.... now I did this a fair bit with some of the more notorious horses with less drama. I came to a stop, blocked his foreward motion and gently applied the aids and this horse just shoots backwards out of the contact. I then blocked the backward motion by keeping my leg on, so he went up instead. He just lept and bucked in place.
Rinse and repeat with a couple more bucks before he realised that I wasn't letting him get away with it. He only could do a couple of steps but the moment he took them, that was it. Praise and letting him go forward. Everyone was laughing because they knew if his owner had seen him do that, she'd never ride him again. Unfortunately, sometimes you do have to just tough it out in a firm but fair way.
