  • Tom and Sam talk about what it means for the kingdom of this world to become the Kingdom of GOD: Does the Bible say that Heaven is the ultimate goal for those who love the God of Israel? Hell, Hades, Sheol, Gehenna - learn about the abode of the dead and how not to die twice. And finally, justice for all means judgement by the One True Judge.

I’m going to make an effort to shift conversation to that perspective when the situation arises.
      2) The bottom line. I only want to die once!!! Thank you for that! It really does help me focus!
      Because I’m still pretty unclear about Hell, Sheol, Hades. (Like where did Jesus go for 3 days after his death. and what was the writer referring to in the Psalm when he says ,”...where can I hide from your Spirit? ....if I make my bed in Sheol, behold you are there.” It’s all pretty confusing. My "burning question" has not been touched on, and it might be something you purposefully avoided talking about, but I just thought I'd post it and see if you'd want to address it from a Biblical Messianic point of view. Tim Mackie (whom I appreciate and regularly listen to) suggested that there is a view on hell that it ends up incinerated and it ceases to exist, thus the eternal suffering is basically not eternal. Do you see that as a Biblical point of view? Is this (or was this) a Jewish understanding of hell? Thanks in advance. Blessings 😊

      Great question, I would say that Christian art throughout the centuries still influences us today and had a major influence in a time when most people were illiterate. Books like Dante's "Inferno" and Milton's "Paradise Lost" still impact people's perceptions in addition to ancient pagan influences. Today, all of these things plus modern film (zombies!) also influence people. It seems that preachers often simplify the issues of the afterlife for evangelistic purposes.

    My current understanding is that the scriptures teach that everyone goes to sheol when they die to await either resurrection to life or the second death. Sheol has good and bad habitations. The people in the bad side are not in torment because they are burning but because they are in deep despair because they realize their end that awaits them and that they will no longer have a chance to life. 😥

  • @victor-hn1bh
    @victor-hn1bh 2 года назад

    David must wait in sheol for the resurrection according to peter at pentecost
    Acts2:26-35
    26 Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:
    27 Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
    28 Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.
    29 Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.
    30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;
    31 He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.
    32 This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.
    33 Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
    34 For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
    35 Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

      All seem to be resurrected- "Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake-some to everlasting life, and others to shame and everlasting contempt" (Daniel 12:2). The LORD is able to resurrect anyone regardless of how they died or how their body was treated. Clearly, the saints burned at the stake will be fully resurrected in their new bodies. Jewish and Christian tradition (at least until Vatican II) was very serious about only burying the dead as opposed to cremation. This was done as respect for the dead, reminder of the resurrection, and because burning dead bodies was an ancient pagan practice.
