    I have 2 of these cars. I love them! My white 03 is a “SE” not the regular “ES” model. Leather interior, leather steering wheel, polished mags, power moonroof, Mazdaspeed shocks, etc. All factory. It’s a rare care. Not too many on the road back then. Probably because they were expensive. Lots of fun to drive! Zoom! Zoom! Enjoy!

    I spent about 150k on two new cars and I have more attachment to my SP20/P5. 110k on my 5.7 hemi new and bought a 2016 Audi A1 1.4 TFSI for 41k new the it was outhandled by my 1.6 Protege in a corner I loved speeding through daily. Max speed I could do round this corner in my Audi was 65km/hr. In my 1.6 protege with 17inch forged wheels and pedders suspension I did it at 85km/hr and it didnt budge.
    Then realised how light these things were so sold the audi and bought more Protege/Astinas and did the same suspension and wheel work. Never EVER selling them. So far Ive gone through 7 dishing them out to friends and family cause the platform is so good. Its basically a 90s Toyota Corolla in terms of reliability. Parts are cheap, they look awesome with just a wheel upgrade and weigh 1100kg with me in the car and im over 120kg lol. Since its light weight, I started throwing in heavy audio gear and hasnt affected cornering that much.
    I like the fact that noone knows how good these cars are cause it keeps the price down so I can keep buying more of them.

      @@equalspro some still sell for 7-9k in AU if paint is in good condition and its been looked after so once they go, then I can pick them up for 1k otherwise they linger in the 4-5k mark lol.

    • @equalspro
      @equalspro 7 месяцев назад

    ME AND MY LIL RED WAGON AGAINST THE WORRRRRRLD!!
    i've had my 2003 P5 since about 75k miles, and it's almost clocked 200k. it's never let me down and i've given it hell over the past decade. she's for sure in need of some TLC, but even if i have to load it to the roof and drive 6+ hours, i know we can get it done.

    *Very, very clean. You did good, especially at that price. A little TLC will easily get you to 300k miles. Cruise controls only fail if someone ignorant F!'s with it when removing stress bar for battery R'n'R. Else, fuse and relay are good starting points. Source of rear wheel well rust is permanently correctable with new tail lamp seals and acrylic caulk. Unlike others of the time, fog lights are real, not a fashion accessory. Mazda still offers printed FSM 9999-95-017B-02 (-03 for you) suitable for 3-1/2", D-ring binder. My 2002 has 240k miles, CC and OE radio/CD/cassette stack work like a champ. (If it ain't broke, don't F! with it) Respect!*

    With your transmission in manual mode you should be able to start off in second gear. And you can take off in 1st and rest way of course by selecting the manual mode.
    Just going off of what you said about not having a first gear selection, and the D was basic.

    Glad you are enjoying your car. I have one of these in the "Laser Blue" and am the original owner. Replaced the engine at about 250K miles. Was burning too much oil and the replacement was less expensive than the rebuild. Currently have over 400K miles and have no intent to trade this machine in. Been so many places in this.

    My auto '02 has a 'row' shifter instead of the Jigsaw one, just up or down on the column. My cruise control did work for a year or so before breaking somehow. Got the same white cluster sitting at 155K, paid for a used transmission to replace my slipping transmission. Need to get my alternator and belt replaced.

    There's one with 200,000km (Canada) for sale for $3300. It's very clean and has some aftermarket wheels and lights. Runs well. Do y'all think that's a good deal? It's standard too.

    I like that you took good car of the car. Does central locking also unlock the boot as well so after you remote unlock you can just put your hand underneath the where you unlock the boot and lift? Or do you have to put the key in manually every time you want to open the boot?

    It won't blow up; these engines are SOLID. Especially if strapped to an automatic. They are non-interference. Regular oil changes every 10,000km with full synthetic oil and using 98 Octane fuel and it lasts for a very long time.
