    Are looking for the best way to pull a camper and bring your kayaks along? Well I tried several ways of doing it, and figured out the most economical and easiest way of doing it. If you don't mind drilling some holes in your truck bed, this rack works great. Otherwise they have no drill options for a little more money.
    Here is a rack similar one to mine: amzn.to/4cAP3gX

      I'm glad it helped. Its been working out great for me. I actually take the rack off when not in use. I bought little plastic plugs to cover the bolt holes. It only takes 5-10 minutes to reinstall it when I need it.

    It’s always a little unnerving to drill into your truck 😁 Looks like you could’ve used an extra hand at times for the install. Looks good Rande 👍

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  4 года назад +2

      Yeah, I had some fun trying to assemble it. I really needed a second hand helping. I often dream about getting anew truck, but then I would be worried about every scratch I put on it. In the end, I love driving around an old beater truck. Thanks for the comment.

      I'm glad it helped. I bought a new truck and used a roof rack to carry my kayaks. It worked well too, just a little harder to get up there. You can see that video here: ruclips.net/video/EhO25sNZ1ZY/видео.htmlsi=CQyg8BoM1KHt0AD0

    Nice video and great job on the rack and the improv fishing trip! My bed cover covers exactly where you bolted yours down so I had to go the 2” PVC pipe fabrication that sits in the bed. I may add some of those hook rings to the uprights for extra tie down options. Happy Camping!

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  3 года назад

      Hi Glenn. I'm glad you figured something out. Its not easy getting a utility rack to fit with a bed cover. I'm looking into a new dodge ram with the "rambox." There seems to be very little options for this setup with that truck, so I may have to do something like you did.

    • @sychan29
      @sychan29 3 года назад

      Can you explain the 2in PVC that you did? I will have a hard time installing with my cover

    • @glenndespres5317
      @glenndespres5317 3 года назад +1

      @@sychan29 it’s a bit difficult to explain. A picture is worth a thousand words. But basically all the parts below the cover are cemented together. The four corner risers stop about 2 inches below where the bed cover sits. So at the tops of the 4 risers is a T fitting and that’s where I fit in the front and rear “goal posts” that actually support the kayaks. They are secured with wing nuts and bolts so that they can be removed. Bottom line is I can cover the truck bed only when those goal posts are removed, but not during travel. So that is a downside. If you search Pinterest for PVC kayak carriers for truckbeds, you should be able to find a decent picture.

    Thanks for the video. Looking to do the same w Kayaks and camper. I was a bit concerned with 12 ft kayaks and a short bed pickup but looks like you had plenty of room with them hanging out back by 2 ft or so. Good point about turning clearance. Think of the memories you made by forgetting the fishing poles. Well done.

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  3 года назад

      Reed still talks about that camping trip where we forgot the fishing poles. We wanted to make some more homemade poles at home, so now we have a whole pile of them. I'm glad the kayak video was helpful. Sometimes I just make videos because I'm going to do it anyway, might as well film it. It's nice to know somebody found it useful. Have a great day!

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  Год назад +1

      Hi Rob. The tonneau cover does make it difficult. You almost have to go with a rack that bolts on top to keep clear of the cover. So if you don't mind drilling holes in your truck, it works well. I would remove the rack when not in use, so I bought plastic plugs to fill the holes when I removed it.

    I need to install a kayak rack but I also have a soft cover over my truck bed. I wondered if you had any tips on doing that since it looks like you did the same with your truck. Any advise would be helpful thanks a bunch

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  3 года назад +1

      Hi Beth. I had the same dilemma. They do make racks that will work with a soft cover, but they are really expensive. The one I went with bolts to the top of the bed rail and does not interfere with the cover, and it was really cheap. The downside is that you have to drill holes in your truck. I bought plastic plugs that I put in the holes when I remove the rack. I only install it when I'm hauling the kayaks. I believe I put a link to it in the video description. That would be a good place to start looking. Thanks for the question.
